Enjoyable Nine-Holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 9, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Two sets of cement tee pads per hole at the well-maintained Faircrest Park. Tee signs are big and bright and the course flows nicely around the park. Baskets are in great condition and are placed nicely among the large trees. There's some nice elevation changes on some holes.

Cons:

Fairways run close to each other. The short tee pads are shorter than the long tee pads. The walking path is close to a lot of the holes.

Other Thoughts:

Faircrest is my new go-to 9 hole course in the area. It's easy to get to and and you can get 18 holes completed in a short amount of time. I only brought fairway drivers my first time and definitely needed something longer for a few holes. Course was in great condition even though there's some new dirt around 9's basket. I like the walking path being used as OB as it tightens up a few holes; the park was almost empty when I played so I did not have to play around walkers or other park patrons. Oh, I like hole 9.

Quick and Fun Niner! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 30, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

This nine-hole course set in the smaller sized Faircrest Park is a perfect addition to the disc golf scene in the area. Every hole has two grippy concrete tee pads, two very nice tee signs, and a single, shiny Chainstar basket.

Playing mostly on the perimeter of the parks green space, the course plays on some rolling hills and around some mature trees. This course does not have a large amount of distance, but there is a good variety of shots needed to navigate some of the holes.

This course is very playable for any player. The short tees are very beginner friendly, and can be completed in less than 20 minutes. The long tees, while still a shorter layout, has shots to test more advance players. This would be a great place to stop after work, school, or when you need a quick break off of the highway.

Cons:

Faircrest Park is nothing flashy. There is no wow-factor, there isn't any glamour. It's a lot of fun, it's a great place to play and learn the parts of your game, but it's well short of spectacular.

Some of the holes play close to other baskets, tees, or the walking path. Being a small, low-traffic park, this doesn't seem like a large problem, but it could be a nuisance.

Hole 9 is one of the weirdest disc golf holes I have ever played, and I don't like it. 200 feet to a tree that you must take a complete 180 degree turn, back to a basket that is only 30 feet from the tee pad. There was some room for a nice sweeping hyzer shot, so I'm confused as to why they chose this design to finish an otherwise cookie-cutter course.

Other Thoughts:

There isn't much to say about Faircrest Park. It's a fun place to play, but nothing crazy. Some fun shots to throw, a long and short layout, and a quick play. It's not a destination course by any means, but I really like that they put a course in this smaller, multi-use area.

Good 9 Holer In A Multi Use Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 29, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Driving into Faircrest Park , I was kind of skeptical of the rating it was given . After looking over the course map and playing this course , I was wrong . Elevation ? Plenty . Water , it does have a creek running through the middle of the park . Large cement tee pads , 2 per hole .Park is well maintained , bathrooms next to the parking lot . Solid throwing lines on the holes . Trees come into play as much as they can . The first hole runs parallel to the road you came in on . It is an uphill shot on a tight treeline . Short but deceptively tricky . Hole 2 comes back down the same hill guarded by scattered trees . #3 is a short flat 300 footer with a creek on the left , but otherwise a shot at a birdie . #4 , long is hidden way back on the back side of the park . You will see the short tee and think it was the long one . This long tee plays starting on the level and eventually working uphill at 489' , but it will feel like 600' . There is a walking path that park users will be on that encircle the park and this hole is the most dangerous for hitting someone , so be careful . #5 would be my choice for a signature hole . A downhill 400' blast with a creek and some back end trees in play . #6 goes back up the hill one more time to a left to right fader with a large tree in play . Hole #7 ,almost 400' is also a good hole is a control drive that hugs the slop and has finishing trees at the end . If your drive turns over early , you may find your disc down the hill and far left of the hole . #8 is one of the easier holes on the course . The basket drops off a little and is protected by a couple of trees , but at 261' on the long tee , an easy deuce try . #9 . I found out later that this basket had a theme to it . Interesting to say the least . You have to drive an approach disc around a mando , right to left across a small creek . Then you have to turn 180 degrees and throw almost right to where you teed off to the basket . A keeper just for being so strange . All in all . A lot of disc golf packed into a small park . They stretched out the course to make it the feature article here . No benches and no trash cans , but who cares . You will only be here about 45 minutes anyway .

Cons:

No signage on the course . If you didn't take a picture of the course or print the map , you might wander a lot , even though the course flows . The course may take on some picnic families and some people just spreading a blanket . Be respectful . It's their park , too . Even though there is a great use of available trees and water , they don't come into play a lot .

Other Thoughts:

This course packs a punch for being so small. Great course for families and newbies off the short tees , and challenging for the seasoned player off the longs as well . Well maintained . . Hats off to course design , too . We don't have many quality 9 holers where I come from in Cincy , so I appreciate all of the hard work and money that went into this . Playing the short and long tees make this an 18 holer if you desire . Elevation , a creek , basket placement , I recommend that if you are in the area , PLAY IT !!

“The Final Lap” 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+ WC Griffith Memorial DGC @ Faircrest Park is easily the best 9 hole course in the area. Features scattered mature trees to pair perfectly with the rolling hills and winding creek.

+ First off, the course is dedicated to the designer's grandfather, who owned Sprint racing cars. The 9th hole is really gimmicky on purpose. It's called the "Final Lap" because of its sharp left turn that represents a turn on a NASCAR track. It's a really cool dedication to his grandfather, just a brilliant idea to go with a brilliant design!

+ Two sets of concrete tees on every hole. I'd consider the long tees to be intermediate difficulty and the shorts to be beginner-intermediate. Great variety in distance and elevation makes every hole stand out from the last.

+ Course makes a loop back to the parking lot. There's portable restrooms right by the starting point.

+ You have a few ace runs, a few holes where you can air it out, and a few right in between. Great variety!

+ Brand new Chainstar baskets that catch awesome. The course is brand new and really has no issues with its condition.

Cons:

- #9 is an awesome dedication, but it isn't the best ending hole. The basket is right next to the tees, but you have to go in a "U" shape all the way around the trees. Again, it's gimmicky on purpose.

- I'd like to see tee signs, even though you can see the basket from the tee on almost every hole. Also, the number plates on a few holes aren't facing the direction of the fairway.

- Only 9 holes, so the max rating I'd give out is a 4.0.

Other Thoughts:

Faircrest was a perfect setting for a nice 9-holer and I'm somewhat surprised it wasn't utilized earlier. Kudos to the designer for a great course and a great dedication to his late grandfather. People will enjoy the course in his memory for years to come!

Friendly Vibes at Faircrest 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

~Long & Short concrete tee pads
~Clean, well maintained park
~Nice variety, very fun layout
~Appealing to all skill levels
~Restrooms & pavilions close to the parking lot and course

Cons:

~Compact tract of land, many holes play alongside one another
~Newly installed walking path could be potential pedestrian hazard
~Both cons above could create bottlenecks if park is crowded

Other Thoughts:

The newest addition to the Stark County disc golf scene is a good one. A nine holer with long and short tee pads create a fun filled course that should appeal to most every player. The two sets of tee pads make for a wide variety of shots if played as a full 18 course. Holes vary in distance and elevation and weave throughout an open park with a fair amount of mature trees. Plenty of different lines are available on many holes allowing you to work on any shot you want. Great use of the available land and it's hard to find many if not any faults with the final design. The finishing hole is a polarizing one already within the local scene as it plays as a left dogleg mando, 180 degrees out and back to the basket. Gimmicky perhaps, but unique and a solid par hole. Parking lot is between hole 1 and 9 and there are two nice pavilions and porta-a-johns for restrooms all nearby. I can see this course being used for glow rounds, ace races, winter season tournaments, and every day play. It truly is appealing to anyone who enjoys the sport, and is accessible for all skill levels.

Fun little 8 holes. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 30, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Easy to get to
- New Concrete short and long teepads on every hole
- Chainstar baskets that are new and catch well
- For as small of a park as this is they used every bit of it to give us a great course.
- A good mix of long and short holes. There are a lot of mid and fairway shots but there are a few distance driver shots. Its nice to see a good variety on only a 9 hole course. I had to use a lot of different discs in my bag which is usually not the case for a 9 hole course.
- You can tell that the designers of the course knew what they were doing. Over all its a fun 9 hole with the opportunity for 18 different holes with the long and short pads.

Cons:

- Hole 9. WTF. So there is enough room here to make this a real hole but instead its just gimmicky and I dont play now when I play this course. The hole about 80' diagonally left off the long pad and maybe 50' off the short. But they decided to but 2 separate mandos out there so you pretty much have to play the hole like a horse shoe. I would consider it a par 4 because of the shape of the hole but its just a dumb hole. A 200' wide open hole would be better then what is here. Kind of sour ending to a great 9 hole course.
- No teesigns, but not sure if this will be an issue much longer since it seems like this course just got put in so I assume that teesigns are coming. But for now they are not there.
- Not sure how much of a negative this is as well but the long tees are the standard length but they actually made the short tees shorter by a few feet. I would be nice to have regular sized short pads but its not too much of an issue since a huge run up isnt needed from the shorts.

Other Thoughts:

Overall the course is a lot of fun to play and is a great course to practice on since there are a lot of different shots needed to score well and its just an overall fun course minus hole 9. Id suggest going to play this nine hole course if you are in the area.
