Nice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Seemed like two courses in one, varied styles from open fields to a thin wooded course.

Cons:

Not sure if we got lost, but still a great round.

Nice Little Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice Tee Signs on all 18 holes
-Diamond rubber teepads. They're small, but are the best rubber pads out there.
-Bright red new Chainstar Pros
-Seems to be well taken care of
-Navigation was simple with big arrows everywhere
-Trash Cans
-Decent enough variety of short shots
-Great for kids/family/short game
-Hole 9 is beautiful.

Cons:

-The #6/7/8 area could be quite a problem if the course gets busy. It would be extremely easy to have discs hit you from all angles as these 3 tees/fairways are very close to each other.
-Some holes you have to walk back up and/or across the fairway you just completed. Nothing is blind here so there shouldn't be much danger.
-Could use some benches
-Hole #17

Other Thoughts:

The family and I decided to stop here on our way home from up north. Overall, it turned out to be a great decision. There were only a couple other people out there and we had a great time. This course is great for the family, or great for putter/midrange only rounds. It's definitely not a long course, but it will still test some of your short game. Some of the fairways in the woods are fairly narrow, but still manageable.

Besides kind of disliking the proximity of #'s 6/7/8 to one another, the one other hole that I cringed at was hole 17. Toss your putter out to the open area and then upshot 90 degrees or more to the left. If you threw straight too far, you would nail everyone on the 18th tee. If the group on hole 16 threw 3 feet to the left of their fairway, you were getting pegged while putting on 17.

Overall, we had a great time here and I would play again if I was in the area and looking for a family round, short game round, or quick round in general.

Quality, enjoyable short course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 7, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a legitimate course. It's not 150 foot putter-only course or a low-quality course likes the rating may suggest.

-Plays in a very nice, scenic park
-Well maintained by Gaylord DGC
-Very new chainstar baskets and good rubber tee pads
-good variety of shots. again, you won't just be throwing a short putter on every hole
-amazingly fun signature finishing hole
-convenient location in Gaylord
-Gaylord DGC has fixed a lot of the problems this year that the course had before. Lines in the woods are now much more fair and fairways no longer cross each other to the extent that they did before.

Cons:

-9 holes for now, but word is that Gaylord DGC is working on getting 18 or even 24-27 at some point in the near future.
-no holes that really let you bomb one
-course doesn't loop around; have to walk back to the start after 9
-no signage or distances yet

Other Thoughts:

This is a really fun and interesting, albeit short, course. It has through-the-roof potential on the property, and I'm very excited to see where Gaylord DGC takes this course in the near future after recently taking over control here.

Pitch n Puttish 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 7, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Pretty easy to figure out where the next basket is. Mowed fairways

Cons:

No distance posted, have to walk through entire course to get out

Other Thoughts:

This feels like a pitch n putt course with the exception of a few holes. Its great for new players and kids. I brought my 11 year old nephews and they had a great time. All hyzer shots or straight shots, would have been nice to force 1 anny. Super basic course, you wouldn't want to go out of your way to play it, but perfectly for an hour out with the kids

on second thought, lets not go there, tis a silly place 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Aesthetic-- plays in the back lot of a middle school between this lot and an adjacent park. There is a gate between the two locations and it was locked the day I was there. There are nature trails back in these woods, walkers could certainly be an issue.

Baskets-- Nice and in new condition. Flags could help visibility consideribly.

Routing and nav-- not bad, not good. 4 to 5 is the only sticky spot.

Teepads-- diamond plate rubber mats. My only choice in rubber mats.

Cons:

Unfortunately these cons will outweigh most of the pros.

Rediculously narrow fairways in the woods-- probalby 4ft fairways in the woods will leave you throwing a putter low and slow most of the time. These are some of the narrowest fairways I've seen.

Safety-- #6 throws over #7's teepad, #7 throws over #8's Teepad and #8 throws over a locked gate... just bad design

The Gate-- there is a locked gate between 8's teepad and basket. I could see the basket and you could probably shimmy under the gate but whats the point? Why would anyone build a course over a locked gate? I can't picture where this would be a good idea.

Teesigns-- none. Mats are marked with hole # only.

Linear design-- you have to walk back from #8/9 to get to your vehicle. it's not a loop but rather you go all the way out, then traverse the first 9 holes (through fairways) to get back to your vehicle. Bad Bad Bad for safety.

Upkeep/rough-- There needs to be some serious clearing of fairways and meadows to keep from losing discs out here.

Other Thoughts:

I understand this is in it's infancy, but a serious amount of work needs to be done before this is a legit course. I drove a long way to play this course (I'm a bagger) and was badly disappointed.

2015Jul29 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 29, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Any course is better than no course. Course does have potential for significant improvements. Apparently, development was volunteer driven (BSA Eagle Scout project with many donors). Tee boxes are ok (black rubber matting with hole number leading toward general direction of cage). #7, #8 & #9 are fun. Mix of prairie and woods throughout the course is good.

Cons:

There was no signage, maps or scorecards. The holes in the woods are ridiculously narrow and have many trees and shrubs that need removal or extensive pruning (3, 4, 5 & 6 cage). We lost one disc on #2 tee off, in the massive thicket to the left and short of cage, it needs removal or significant thinning. #9 ends way out in the boonies, it's a bummer to have walk all the way back to #1 and parking lot.

Other Thoughts:

Make these suggested improvements to the nine holes, then add a second nine and we'll definitely be back. The second nine needs to end near the first tee box.
