Pros:
Glacier Ridge is one of the seemingly endless metro parks in the Columbus area. Metro Parks in this area are very welcoming to disc golfers, and I hope this spreads up to my area of Northeast Ohio.
+ All the ammentities are very nice. Two sets of concrete tees on most holes with awesome laminated tee signs at the short tees. Long tees have a post with the hole number and distance. Baskets are in great shape for the most part. Massive parking lot with a practice basket by the first tee.
+ Long tees aren't very difficult, but they do provides some added distance for more experienced players. Short tees are great for newbies with many holes under 200'.
Cons:
- The wooded holes consist of #1-3, and #17-18. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything, these holes are garbage. Since I'm assuming they couldn't cut down any trees, they just utilized the gravel walking path for the fairways. No real lines, just throwing down a gravel path.
- The mainly wide open holes are #4-16. With the exception of a few cool tosses that utilize isolated mature trees and occasional hills, there's not much to speak of. No shot shaping, just straight and open.
- Rough can be brutal, but it's not to difficult to avoid. Just make sure to watch your shots and keep em' straight.
- Multiple pin positions doesn't affect my rating, but I'll always put it in the cons. Find the best position and stick with it!
Other Thoughts:
Glacier Ridge might be a decent place to bring beginners but I definitely believe it's a little overrated. Bland holes outweigh the few fun holes making for a below average course.
