Granbury City 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 21, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-- Mostly disc golf only land. Nos. 1 and 2 are near softball fields, and there is a walking path, but you don't see many folks on the course who are not playing disc golf.
-- Concrete tee pads, although they are different lengths and widths.
-- Multiple pin locations.
-- 22 holes.
-- Seating. There aren't a lot of actual benches, but there are large stones/boulders and some tree limbs (some with actual seats cut into them).
-- Restrooms and water near at the softball fields, but the restrooms might only be open when the fields are in use.
-- With the multiple pin locations, there are options for length. Seven holes can be longer than 500 feet.

Cons:

-- Difficult to navigate without a map. Frequently what is intuitive as the next hole is not, in fact, the next hole. And frequently the direct route from one hole to the next takes you through another fairway (or at least between the basket and the tee).
-- Poor signs. The signs are very old. Some are faded badly. Factor in added pin positions (up to five on some holes) that are written in by hand, and you've got a mess.
-- With that many pin positions, it is really difficult to know which pin is in use.
-- There is frequently very little real risk of losing a disc, but some of the long positions are pretty close to water. One water carry is the only real chance of losing a disc other than that.
-- RHBH dominant course, but many of the hole offer a LHBH option.
-- Some holes have mandos for safety reasons; other times, you've got long walks between holes.
-- A stretch of holes in the middle (7-12) is pretty flat and open with only a few trees.

Other Thoughts:

-- The official parking lot is on Moore Street, but you can park on Crossland Road (at the skate park) and walk under the railroad tracks and start on No. 3.

Passing Through 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 21, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete tee pads.
-Multiple pin locations.
-22 individual holes that can be played.
-Well kept park
-Plenty of trash receptacles.

Cons:

-Difficult to navigate without a map.
-Difficult to know which pin is in use.
-There is very little real risk on the course.
-RHBH dominant course, but there was at least some technical challenge and relief for lefties.

Other Thoughts:

I had a great round at this course (for me.) It is always nice to try somewhere new, and this course was good for a stress free round where you can stretch out your driving arm a little.

Before I get into this, I sometimes dwell on what can be improved. I want to repeat that this was a fun place to play in case I get too negative.

Navigation for non-locals is difficult. You can see multiple goals and tee boxes, and while some did make sense, others did not. Having a map on hand was critical. Beware of hole 6B. It has been wedged between 6 and 7, and it threw me for a loop for a few minutes.

The course is placed in a city park, and it tries to use what is available for obstacles. There just isn't too much available. The water holes are half full at best and empty in many cases. The trees that are there are used, but it is very clear underneath them. Some of the drives were technical, but recovery was a breeze for errant throws.

I loved that there were multiple pin locations, but there was little chance an out-of-towner like myself would know what pin location was in use by using the low detail tee box graphics. I was lucky to have my range finder, or else I would have totally been off on distances. The tee signs had all the lengths there, but there were 5 different distances written on some of the tee signs so it was hard to discern which was in play.

The current pin location was hard to find on Hole 9 because it was tucked behind a huge tree. I almost threw to the wrong goal as a result. I had trouble finding goals on other holes as well. Having a map helped here and it can be figured out.

Overall, I give this course a 3. It could go to a 3.5 or even maybe a 4 if the issues above were corrected, but courses do not need to be 5 stars to be fun. I definitely recommend stopping to play if you are passing through, but bring a map.

Good overall 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 21, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Well kept

Cons:

-Some pins and boxes too close together through the middle of the course.
-Short and skinny teepads!!

Other Thoughts:

A walking path is present near 1&2, should be a non issue, just know it is present. Road and train tracks near 2&3, road has moderate traffic, don't get distracted! Decent use of elevation but could be better. Flows nicely, but there is one spot where you could walk to the wrong next box. The park is big enough where there should be no crowding but there is on a few which was a design flaw. Overall the signs were very accurate, very easy to read and follow. After 3&6 (I believe) there are some hand painted signs to direct to the next box but between 6&7 that sign could certainly be bigger/more visible. Fairly easy course that should yield plenty of birdies and few bogies, probably none. Good course overall and if your passing through I would recommend giving it a go.

***I left out one very important thing. For me having good teepads is very near the top of my requirements for a good course. The pads here are concrete but they are short and skinny! I have stepped off the end of them lots of times and it messes up your release and if your not careful could lead to an ankle/knee injury. There are a few tee boxes that are longer and wider but most are short and skinny, which suggests poor planning or something of the sort.

"Shorts" review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

*concrete tees
*tee signs
*rough not too bad
*flow is not to bad. Made my way around without a map or playing before
*spacious land
*multiple pin locations
*elevation change. But felt like it could of been used better.

Cons:

*seemed very right hand back hand friendly-I would say over 75 percent or higher are right side open to entrance or left side blocked by trees
*only hole that really felt special was 17 and if pin was 30 feet more left this could be a really special hole
*16 seemed confusing with multiple baskets in area. Threw down to 20 thinking that is what sign meant.

Other Thoughts:

There is nothing really bad or just outstanding about the course. It does it job. This is just a review of the shorts. It almost felt like the people who put in course were all rhbh throwers and threw shots and said ok. Lets put it there.
