Looks Good In Pictures, Not In Person 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 19, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-This is a 9 hole course in a pretty park near downtown Newberg, Oregon. The course plays up and down the hills surrounding a small creek.
-There are lots of fun shots. Uphill, downhill, hyzer, anhyzer, this course fits it all into just 9 holes. I believe every hole except 6 had elevation change. It makes the most of the small property.
-There's a sign with a map near the first tee.

Cons:

-This course looks great in pictures, also from the first tee. But after that, it is a mess.
-First, there are serious flooding issues. The holes at the bottom of the valley are muddy even in summertime.
-There's a huge swampy area right in front of the third basket. My disc just had to land right in the middle of it.
-There's no signage at all, or numbers on baskets. Multiple baskets are often in view from a tee and the fairways of holes 4 and 6 cross. The course was all around poorly designed.
-The teepads of holes 4 and 9 were simply patches of dirt.
-The baskets were the very old Discatchers. The chains were rusted and did not catch well. A few of the baskets were tilted, too.
-Hole 8 may be the worst hole I've ever played. It's straight downhill, and the tree branches are too low to afford any look at the basket. Plus, the creek is right in front of the basket, very easy to slide into.
-The creek that winds through the course is small, but it is deep, still, rich with algae, and stinks. Fishing a disc out of the creek would be no fun. Plus, dangerous looking red and yellow bugs seem to nest in it. .

Other Thoughts:

-It's a shame a course in a pretty park like this is neglected. It certainly needs a lot of work.
-It wouldn't be great to be a disc golfer in Newberg. You have two courses in town, neither of them very nice. If I lived here I would play at Champoeg State Park across the river. If you're in the area, Champoeg is much more worth your time.

Pros:

-Short
-Quick Play when not crowded
- Elevation Change

Cons:

- Crowded
- Floods
- Unplayable many months out of the year

Other Thoughts:

Thanks for the park but often too crowded or flooded. Luckily there is another decent park nearby. Don't ever set your heart on playing it before you get there.
