There is potential, but... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tee Pads and baskets are in great shape since the course is new. There are bathrooms fairly close. Park is easy to find. Slight elevation changes add to the difficulty slightly.

Cons:

There are no signs. There are no maps. I would go so far as to say that 60% of the holes are a 200 feet long, slight anhyzer through trees. Lots of wasted space on the course. Hole #1 tees off from one side of a soccer field and crosses two childrens soccer fields to a pin tucked in the woods. If there is a game going on, or even a practice, you will not be able to play hole #1. A few long walks between holes and that can be difficult to handle without a map. Course is very, very, very short.

Other Thoughts:

The park is nice. There is a lot going on in this park: softball fields, soccer fields, baseball fields, an indoor athletic center, playgrounds, tennis courts, pavilions for picnincs and family reunions. In short, I could see this being a very busy place, and if it is busy there will be a couple of dangerous throws. One pin is situated about 50 feet from the playground. An errant approach or a renegade child, and someone could get hurt. We were there on a quiet afternoon so we didn't have much trouble.

My main pet peeve was that this park still had plenty of empty land that we walked through while playing the course. I don't mind short holes if that is what the land requires, but this park had plenty of space that was untapped. One example. There was a hole where we walked about 200 feet up a slight hill to the next tee. The hole was about 210 feet up this hill and barely tucked into the woods. If the tee box had been closer to the prior hole, this could have been a 410 feet slightly uphill hole to a pin tucked slightly into the woods. Option two could reduce the "pin-next tee" walk as well as add a little distance and challenge to the course. The last two holes were kind of nice because they were long and open and different from the first 16. However, I just got the feeling like they designed this course and then got to hole 17 and thought..."it's too short". Then they added two wide open 450-550 feet holes to finish the course. Also on the last two holes there was a tree by the pin, but neither tree was set as an obstacle because the tree on each hole was directly behind the pin. Instead of having to throw around the tree or navigate under the limbs, the pin just sat right in front on both holes.

Bottom line is that this park has potential for a magnificent course, but it would take a nearly complete redesign. Signs and maps for navigational purposes is a must.
