"Also, Dude, 'Indian' is not the preferred nomenclature..."

Pros:

- Indian Creek is a solid 18-hole course in the fine Wisconsin city of Manitowoc. The first three holes play through a mixture of scrubby prairie, woods, and open park grass. Be certain to double back after hole #3 and cross the bridge using the road (N 8th St) instead of trying to cross the wide creek with just the stones to hop. Hole #'s 4-12 play through a sparsely treed open prairie section with some tasty rolling elevation and aggressive winds off Lake Michigan. Hole #'s 13-18 are a mixture of scrubby prairie, woods, and open park grass much like the beginning section. The course crosses a bridge after Hole #15 and ends with #18 right by the parking lot.
- Great use of the rolling terrain. Hole #16 is a prime example, starting off low with a creek behind the tee. Throw up and over with creek to the right to an open area, avoiding the woods to the right and scattered trees to the left. Then through a narrow hole in the woods-encircled green area, the creek behind waiting for rollaways. Purple flowers everywhere had me stopping to take pictures and just generally enjoy the wildlife. This course has a few nice vistas. Throughout, the elevation is used to great effect.
- Good use of water, see #16 above.
- Great sign at the beginning with a detailed map and good signage throughout for both sets of tees. The one place where the routing signage could be better is the transition between hole #'s 3 & 4 where walking along the road comes into play in order to avoid the dangerous creek crossing.
- Two sets of decent concrete tees for each hole. Dual pins. Decent baskets.
- This course is a bit of a workout, physically and disc golf wise. Not the hardest or craziest, but the gusty winds on the open rolling hills can be tricky at best. The more wooded holes perfectly compliment the open section, providing variety and balance.

Cons:

- In maybe a handful of holes, it seemed just a touch too overgrown. Hole #1 was the prime example, where a very obviously obscuring branch had grown out and drooped down badly. I believe #16 was the other hole where off the tee, a bit of a trim would greatly enhance the quality and return it to the "intended design." However, the rest of the course was nicely maintained with the grass trim and the ever-present prairie grasses rough but manageable.
- Crossing the creek on the road is less the ideal but it's better than crossing the creek. A bridge at the creek for avoiding the road should be a priority for this courses club.

Other Thoughts:

- Indian Creek is a solid 18er that should be a must hit along with Silver Creek and Lower Cato if in the Manitowoc area.
- Best take a pic of the map at the main kiosk, it's especially instructive in how to double back up the road and over the bridge.

It's a 3 from me! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

After the first three holes, I was surprised that this course had such a low rating. Then I played 4, 5, and 6 and understood why.

Holes 1-3 and 14-17 are things of beauty. Really interesting, fun, and challenging shots. Great elevation changes, trees, and memorable shots.

There is plenty of parking and I can't imagine that this course gets much use. It was in great shape (mowed, no trash) and navigation was no issue.

Navigation isn't that big of an issue as the course flows pretty well.

Not sure there's much more I can add here.

Cons:

Holes 4-13 are so monotonous and...candidly, boring. We're talking open fields, minimal trees, and a bit of elevation change. It's prairie disc golf at it's finest. If the majority of the holes were like the first and last few holes, we'd be talking 4.0, but the monotony really kills the fun factor.

I would imagine this area gets very buggy in the summer.

Along the same lines, I'm sure the rough is treacherous for the vast majority of these holes when it's not early spring or winter.

It bugged me that the tee signs are just tee number without distances. It'd be awesome if this was included.

The walk from 3-4 desperately needs a bridge. All other walks over water were adequately covered.

Other Thoughts:

All in all, if you're in town, there's no doubt to me that you should head to Silver Creek instead.

New and Improved 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 17, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Challenges a number of areas in your disc golf game. Tee signs and concrete pads on every hole, with a second and shorter pad being put in soon. Mostly open and long, but it does have a few wooded holes with tight fairways. Benches and garbage cans on some holes. This course is being well maintained and the fairways are nice. The baskets are in great shape and for me personally, I enjoy that it is never overcrowded, even in the summer.

Cons:

A lot of tall grass, which makes losing your disc a high possibility if you miss your line, especially because of the changes in elevation and windy conditions. It is not the most scenic course and there is a short walk from hole 3 to hole 4 that can be hard to find if you are not familiar with the course.

Other Thoughts:

If you are going to play this course, which I do recommend, be sure to look at the hole locations on the sign by hole one. This will make finding hole 4 much easier and guide you to the pads for each hole. I would also recommend using a spotter for holes that the basket is not in view from the pad (holes 2, 12, and 16). This will eliminate your time looking for discs.

B+ = Challenge in the Prairie! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 15, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

What I personally like and how this course stacks up in my list of 18 hole courses (over 180 played):

1) Holes with good risk/reward. Fair, but harsh punishment for bad decisions or execution. == C-
(This is the weakness of this course. There are a lot of open holes (ways too many), but the few wooded holes on the back 9 are really cool both in aesthetics and in challenge/choices posed. The terrain around the basket on a couple of holes that are at max D for me accentuate error and therefore place a premium on accuracy.)

2) Holes that have rewarding birdie opportunities for me (I rate only from the long tees). I'm a Blue level player (950ish skill) who throws 300' accurately, 360' max. == A
(This is where this course shines for me. Despite the openness, the effective length of the vast majority of the holes are the perfect challenge and offer the perfect buzzz for carding a deuce. This frustratingly fun challenge is a huge part of what draws me back to this course so strongly.)

3) More wooded than open - lots of variety of shots required caused by hole shape and topography == B
(Although this course is not a wooded course, the combination of how the woods and the terrain is used makes things more interesting than otherwise. "On paper" this is a boring course, but in real life there is just something about it that I like.....from the touchy uphill #1, to the quirky downhill bending shot on #3, to the downhill bomber on #7, to the guardian trees on 12 & 13, to the fun and touchy downhill 14, and finally the finicky #15 with a creek right behind the basket, there are actually a bunch of design features to mess with your head.)

4) Natural beauty (Appalachian beauty preferred) and seclusion. == B
(With the way the terrain seems to block out the road on 5-9, this course feels more secluded than it actually is. I really liked the views down over the prairie towards the grove of trees that the stream meanders through. It is a pity that more of the holes are not amongst those trees though. The sort of beauty at Indian Creek is not really my bag, but I cannot deny that this is a beautiful course in its own way.)

5) Bonus points for multi-throw holes with defined landing zones, good risk/reward and multiple options to play them. == NA (0 bonus points for this)

Not a bad course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 18, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Lack of people
Long holes, short holes, wooded, and some difficult angles
Wide open so you can really let your drives fly

Cons:

Need bridges by the holes that you have to cross the creek to get to the next tee. The railroad bridge is freaky as all heck! The grass that isn't mowed is tall as heck and losing a disc in there will take sometime to find.
Grass on the fairways could be cut shorter.
Tee pads?

Other Thoughts:

They are starting to update the course. We did see that they planted a bunch of maple trees throughout the course to add some trees to the mix. they put nice benches and garbage cans at most of the holes. Maybe someday they will add concrete tee pads..
This course has the makings to become another plamann park. But in the long run if everything is done right this place will become better than plamann ever will be.
