Decent, but Busy 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 1, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Will challenge you to take some left to right lines on drives, also encourages low, straight drives. Good challenges for intermediate player
-Made good use of the creek as an obstacle
-Decent amount of trees, made what use they could of them

Cons:

-Walking sidewalk cuts through majority of holes, and it's a busy park
-Busy road borders 4 holes
-Too challenging for beginner
-If you play aggressive, you can lose some discs
-Course does not drain well. If it's rained within the last few weeks, probably best to hold off

Other Thoughts:

I have to knock at least a star off if the course has a walking sidewalk running through it. It takes away from the flow of the game. And in this case, it's a busy park. I saw at least 6 separate people walking today, and it was hot and in the middle of the day. One person was walking through a hole I was throwing on and wasn't even using the sidewalk.

A few issues I'd consider "maintenance" problems:
The tee on hole 6 seems like a disaster waiting to happen. I think originally there was supposed to be a gap in the trees to drive through directly in front of you, but they've grown and closed the gap. The only line seemingly to take is a hyzer that starts right and breaks left, which means you're throwing blind INTO a sidewalk and possible people you can't see. This is my biggest complaint of the course. I guess the workaround is not to go alone and have a spotter. Why not clear those trees in front of the tee though?
Hole 10: The basket is on the other side of a creek, but the only bridge is way off to the right. I don't understand why they don't put a small bridge which would link the tee to the basket.

Other than that, I'd say the course is alright. It's probably a little too challenging for me to play frequently personally, but I could see how it'd be more fun for someone who's more skilled. I plan on playing this occasionally b/c it forces me to strategize more and play more specific lines than somewhere like Greenbelt or L.L Woods, but it's also going to be a more frustrating experience than those courses..

Almost there... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Wide open
Not crowded

Cons:

Short
small variations
weak teeboxes and markers

Other Thoughts:

Course isn't long and kind of boring, but its a good quick play. It was really really hot when I played and you can lose a disc or two in the creek that runs through the whole course

Horrible for First Timers 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 13, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This park has improved as far as the landscaping. City of Carrollton has mowed down a lot of the tall weeds/grass that makes it better for sight distance.

Cons:

Not for beginners. Took me a long time to beat this course and play well. The more you play here, the better you will get.

Other Thoughts:

Considering that I played here during the winter time and it has rained lately, this might be why it's so wet and muddy. When summer time comes and the drought takes over, I will give it another shot.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 29, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

*Front 9 makes good use of elevation
* Course plays tougher than the old layout and is a bit more fun
*Course has a decent mix of holes that are ideal for righties and lefties

Cons:

*No Concrete tees. Many of the dirt tees are on un-level ground...be careful, or roll your ankle
*Many of the pin placements are tucked in a group of trees, which means there is virtually no green, either park it and take your 2 or lay-up because there is no lane for a putt.
*There are no holes that make you say "wow"
*Not much shade
*There are too many throwaway holes to make this course a premier course.

Other Thoughts:

This new layout was just put in the ground about 24 hours before we played it so there is still lots of work to be done clearing fairways and greens. This course will play several strokes tougher for the next generation of golfers because there are a couple dozen of young trees that have been planted that will eventually come into play. Course is fun to play, but is certainly not a "must-play" for out-of-towners.
