Best in Brisbane 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 25, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Longer holes, wide fairways
- real-ish baskets
- some water keeps it interesting
- Good maps and signs
- nice long tee pads
- good park amenities...benches, bins, etc.

Cons:

- non-pro baskets, chains are way too heavy/too tight and will often cause unnecessary bounce-outs.
- baskets placed way higher above the ground than normal
- tee pads a bit thin. Some people like an angled run-up, these pads are generally too thin to facilitate this.
- too many holes throw straight out to an open basket.

Other Thoughts:

This is easily the best course in the Brisbane area. Good signs, tee pads, park amenities, and real-ish baskets go a long way.

However, they could really use some design updates. This course could be twice as good with just a few changes in basket placement. There's too much long and straight. A great course will have a mix of both long straight throws and then some interesting curves that require the disc golfer to think about his shots and play some risk vs.reward.

Also, I would very much like to see a few more links added to the chains on the baskets. The chains are just too tight. Also they're probably too heavy. If you look at a Mach 5 or a Discatcher basket, you'll see the chains are much looser and much thinner. This is important when trying to sink long putts that have some speed behind them.
At John Bray, the chances of sinking a faster putt from a farther distance are almost nil as the stiff chains reject all but the most gentle of throws. This design causes players to have to 2-putt for par when they rightly should have been able to birdie all the par 4 holes on the course.

Awesome looking course but.... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 14, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Awesome layout, long pars, great baskets (best in area Ive seen), well maintained

Cons:

Few of the hole are right next to creeks with long grass and bushy trees, so if you hook it, you WILL lose a disc or two...as I did with my new destroyer, not happy! If you only have a limited bag, play those holes very carefully, aim left and keep left!

Other Thoughts:

Probably the best course in the area BUT only for intermediate to experts, I am more a beginner so need to be careful on a few of those water holes. Stupidly I left my floating disc (dragon) in the car!
