K1 (East)

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

18 holes with DIScatcher 28 baskets in excellent condition. Concrete tees on every hole and some holes have long pads as well. Course winds its way through a portion of a large county park offering low tunnel shots, some fairly open holes with a couple of scattered trees, and a mix of forehand/backhand shots. Most holes have 3 positions (course was in B position except for hole 3 when I played). Hole 3, if in the C position, is an island green that can be fun (see other thoughts) but otherwise all the baskets will be in the same position throughout the course. Tee signs are very nice. No intimidating water carries. You can score well with every shot in the bag or when the course is in the short.

Cons:

Park road (can be busy at times) comes into play on a handful of holes, especially the 3rd hole on the island, so take caution when nearby. A few holes play next to a school with a fence that is fairly high, so you can lose a disc with an errant toss. Hole 15 has some added shrubbery that makes the park road blind off the tee, use extra caution when playing that hole.

Other Thoughts:

Holes 9 and 10 are fairly unique, the tees don't exactly line up with where the basket is (9 isn't as bad, but 10 is a different story). It's not a course to go out of the way for, but with two other courses on site, and easy access to the Turnpike, Indian Hammocks makes for a long but fun day of disc golf.

Suggestion: A sign at hole one to indicate the baskets are in whatever position they are (if all are the same).

Good park course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 20, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

- A nice course with a good variety of holes.
- Good use of low trees to make shots more difficult on a largely open course
- 10 is a good hole to gamble your tee shot, and 18 is a really nice finishing hole.

Cons:

-The signage is generally good, although I'm still not sure I played #1 correctly, and I played 13 and 14 out of order.
- 9 is the weak hole on the course. It's by far the shortest hole, and you're just throwing into a jungle.

Other Thoughts:

- An open layout, but I lost two damn discs anyway (one on top of a building by the 8th tee; the other in a fenced lot on the 15th I was stupidly trying to cut over).

Kinda Kool Kendall 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 18, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

There is a curious collection of holes on K-1 or the "East" course as it is also known as. It starts off with some woodsy holes and then opens up a little. I would describe it as a short to medium length course. There are some cool tree features and the course utilizes some of them in interesting ways. So the course is fun to play and somewhat charming even. There is another 18 hole course on site and combined with this course and lunch at the nearby Pollo Tropical can make for an enjoyable day of eating and slinging plastic!

Cons:

Disclaimer:

This course was originally put in the ground in the mid 1990's and is set in a city park so there are a few cons that especially newer players might not like. Such as holes throwing over or near roads and shorter more technical type holes

Given the course's age, she could benefit from some improvements. Like better tee pads and signs.

The navigation is a little wonky. COPY THE MAP before heading out, or better yet play a round with some of the friendly locals. Also, the course is set in a very popular park and can have holes unplayable during peak times of usage. Like most large city park courses, this one is better played in the morning and during the week.

Other Thoughts:

I had a fun round here and slightly prefer this course to the other one here. I'm old school though, so the courses flaws might not have shined as brightly for me. In 1996 we would have been very happy to have a course like this nearby!

Nice break in Miami 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good signage and baskets with not too much interference from park dwellers.

Cons:

There are some design issues. For example, one hole requires you to throw over a road. Some other holes could be adjusted to avoid spiders and heavy brush, and also make it easier to spot baskets and improve the flow of the course. For example, hole #9 tee is next to a building's parking lot and holes' 10-11 were different but not enjoyable.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, the course is well-maintained with some small design issues. If you are playing EAST, park close to the skating park since hole #1 is directly behind it (backside of skate park). If you are playing WEST, you can park by the skating rink as well since the information board and hole #18 for East are nearby. I did not play West, but it seemed to wrap around the park more, whereas East was mostly in an open area and led you back to the skating area. I enjoyed the course, and would recommend the park for anyone wanting a decent challenge. There wasn't a need for bug spray, but I would definitely recommend bringing a long stick or extender to clear out spiders if needed.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 8, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Several easy birdie ops , solid Discatcher baskets .

Cons:

Slightly spread out and several repeatable shots , 3 pins on mounds surrounded by junk - need work to clear ( maybe scheduled already ) 14 tee is VERY hard to find if you are not looking hard for it - it is at a dead end driveway with a doorway cut out of the side of a chain link fence - have to really be looking to see it . Pathway to 6 and 18 is twisting with several forks - look for the red tape on branches .

Other Thoughts:

Copy of the map is MANDATORY for this one , I referenced it on half the holes .

Good Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 26, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice assortment of holes. Good use of available space. Good signage. Nice tee areas. The first few in the trees are short and super fun. The 11, 12, 14 wide open 3 are a nice change from the rest of the course. 16 might just have been my fave in all the trees. 17, the tree tunnel was a nice different hole. Park is generally clean. Locals were helpful and friendly.

Cons:

A few tough, easy to miss hole transitions. 6 to 7 was easy to miss. 8 to 9 could be missed, too. Over the road for 15 is a bit poorly done.

Other Thoughts:

9 is a weird toss blind into the woods. 10 is just a bit "blinder". This course will allow you to use a variety of discs and shot choices. I travel with a smaller bag than I use on home courses... and had the right assortment to play well. Overall... I will play here again if I have the opportunity.

Other Reviews are Harsh 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 6, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Variety of Shots
- Excellent use of Space
- Ability to play (2) 18-hole courses without leaving the park!
- Course appeals to both beginner and advanced player

Cons:

- course does wind around a couple of low-traffic park access roads
- signs do not depict where the next tee is, though most are intuitive

Other Thoughts:

To complain about what a course doesn't have, ie. hills, seems a bit like whining...how many hills have you seen in the Miami area?

Typical Florida Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 27, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a typical Florida Course. Very flat. It's not a bad course but just not all that interesting. The course is flat with a combination of slightly wooded and open holes. There is an opportunity to use quite a few different style shots at this place. A roller is even handy.

Cons:

The tee signs are not in good shape. There's a few that are readable but they need to be replaced for the most part. The course is mixed in with a multi use park. The east course is ok in the fact that it's not mixed in with other facilities too much. There are quite a few holes that run along the park entrance roads so I can imagine that discs get run over by cars quite often. For the most part the holes on the east course are pretty easy to find but there are no maps and the tee signs don't help with the location of the next hole.

Other Thoughts:

It's the only place ot play in the area so if you live there... go. But.... don't make a special trip to Miami to play here. You'll be disappointed.

A comment regarding my evaluation of courses. I am not trying to insult or hurt any ones feelings when I review a course. I'm just trying to evaluate the course on what I feel are important characteristics of a good course. Disc golf has become a large enough sport that I feel we should strive for better than we have now. Just putting 18 holes in a park isn't enough. 18 pole holes does not make a disc golf course. It requires tee's, signs, maps, solid course design and constant maintenance. Any less than that and we will never advance the sport to a reputable level.

Solid Challenge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 14, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is very challenging, particularly in the long-to-longs setting. It requires a bit of strategy and offers several good risk-reward opportunities. Plenty of opportunity to crush and throw rollers if you like that sort of thing. :) Very friendly/entertaining group of locals.

Minimal chances to lose discs.

Easy to navigate. Short pads are well-suited for a fun round for beginners.

Cons:

A couple of the holes are a bit of a safety concern with the road coming into play. Holes 9-10 are a bit gimmicky with local-friendly trick routes.

Flat as a pancake. Not a lot of shade.

Other Thoughts:

Don't be a dirty discer. Leave the course cleaner than you found it!
