K2 (West)

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 8, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

18 holes with DIScatcher baskets in old, but fair condition. Tees are mostly block pavers. Course winds its way through a portion of a large county park with multiple basket positions. There are some fairly open holes and some low ceiling tunnel shots and you can score really well if the course is either in the short position or you have every shot in the bag. No intimidating water carries. Grass areas are cut short on every hole except 1.

Cons:

Navigation is a bit tricky, as a couple of tee signs are missing. UDISC will be helpful here. In addition, you have two long walks down the same path (5 to 6, 17 to 18) to head back toward the main park area. I wish the fence between the county maintenance area and holes 2-3 was higher. Watch for cars on the park road as you attempt to play 6-8, as well as people at the gymnastic area by 11. No real signature hole, but if 15 is in the A position, it would be a signature basket placement.

Other Thoughts:

While not by any means a destination course, K2 (West) is a fair course that, along with the other two courses in the same park, can make for an exciting and full day of disc golf.

Please note that when I played, hole 12 was changed and is now shared with K3 hole 5, with a temp tee area.

Suggestion: Sign at hole one indicating what position the baskets are in (if all are the same, which they usually are).

Second Morning Trip To Kendall Indian Hammocks Park! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 22, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

I arrived earlier this morning and actually grabbed a parking spot near the kiosk. I talked to locals yesterday and had the K-2 mostly figured out. Actually, after # 1, I mostly breezed through the course. I never found the mysterious # 1 tee pad hidden next to the materials storage area.

K-2 has patio block tee pads, weathered yellow tee signs and Discatcher baskets. After playing # 1, you cross the street and the "No Trespassing" sign to play # 2. Funny, I was recently chastised by one of loyal readers for trespassing at a private swimming pool complex in California, and here I am again. # 2 is a blind hyser throw set among all the debris collected in the park. It's not a pretty hole. # 3 then plays between 250' and 400' down a narrow fairway cut between the jungle in your left and the recycling center fence on your right. #'s 4 & 5 play down this mile long grassy area, which resembles a landing strip for bush planes.

Next, take the nature path (for the first time) to get to the middle holes of K-2 (# 8 -13). This section was the highlight of the course for me. Lots of slightly shorter holes with plenty of trees and streets to avoid. These needed shot shaping rather than just straight on accuracy.

It was a tricky walkout to get to # 14 and 15. 16 & 17 were both long, straight holes on the landing strip before walking through the nature trail (again) to reach # 18, which finishes back near the kiosk.

Cons:

Hole # 2 is ugly.

I don't much like straight, tight holes built on trails and paths.

I somehow missed the tee sign for # 15.

I missed the # 1 tee pad and sign.

# 8 basket is leaning.

Lots of walkers to avoid.

Other Thoughts:

I found K-2 a little easier to navigate. It had more holes that I liked but also more holes than I either didn't especially care for or really disliked. K-2 is interesting in a mostly mediocre way. I could play here occasionally and probably enjoy myself. Or I could see myself mostly playing other area courses.

That Other Course At Kendall 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 18, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The second of the two 18 hole courses here (K-2 or the West course), is not quite as charming as its older brother but has enough decent holes to make it playable. It just feels like a typical standard city course with a couple of cool holes but unfortunately....

Cons:

There are a lot of cons that keep the rating down.

The navigation is somewhat brutal with several LONG walks between holes. Didn't see any navigation aids on the course for dg (don't be fooled by the hiking trail markers as they are not there for our aid!). COPY AND USE THE MAP, it will help. Also, pay heed to the navigation tips on the course info page of this site, or better yet, play a round with some friendly locals.

The course could benefit from some more modern style tee pads and signage. The course is set in a very busy park and some holes may be unplayable as other park activities and nonthrowers spill onto the course. Like most of the areas courses, it is best played in the morning and during the week.

Other Thoughts:

I would recommend playing both courses here and getting lunch at the nearby Pollo Tropical. The courses are old school style, but fun and the chicken was very good!

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 6, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Shares many of the same qualities and flaws as the other course here. Very flat. Very open. Scatterings of trees around some of the holes. And plays through a city park. It's a solid if unspectacular play for a decent portion of it. And it does have a nice finishing hole, with brush to the right of the fairway and older trees to the left, forcing shots to stay low and finish left.

Cons:

Lots of interaction with park activities. Two holes play across a soccer field that was active when I played. Others parallel roads. Or throw past parking spots.
There are also major navigation issues. Finding 2 is not easy. After that there are a ton of long or akward transitions.
Typically courses like this get better when they veer away from the populated areas. Not so here, at least for me. I really dislike holes that play down corridors. By that I mean areas that were cleared for other reasons. Very straight holes that are so wide that it doesn't really matter what type of path the disc travels in the air. One or two of those can be ok but there are a lot here. It gets really repetitive and tucking a basket into the woods at the end of the fairway doesn't really fix that. In the end I just ended up being bored by almost all of this course and I can't help but wonder if the better holes could be added to the other course at Kendall and make one superior course. If I made a return visit to the area, I'd play the West course and skip this one.

Spider Surprise 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Fun mixture of holes, short and long
- Nice easy to spot Innova baskets
- Detailed tee signs when available
- Tee posts highly visible
- Defined tee area with toe board or pavers

Cons:

- Course map on kiosk would be great take with even better
- Finding hole one was a bit of a challenge
- Walks between 5 and 6, and 17 and 18
- General navigation could use some aids
- No score card like for the East side

- For some the mass amounts of spiders might be a con as they and their webs are every where(don't look up)

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course more than the east side. I started on 6 as that is the easiest spot I found to start, however I had spotted what turned out to be 1's basket while playing 18 east so I knew where to go look later. 1, 6-15, and 18 I felt were a great mix of holes and really used what the park hard to offer. The road coming into play on a few holes as OB made for a nice challenge. The natural tees were in good shape and marked by a toe board or pavers, however they were not always right next to the numbered post(none were hard to spot, 9's is on the side walk). Navigating from hole to hole I didn't find too difficult as the tee posts and tee signs(when available) are quite visible, however some directional arrows would help. The one spot that had me second guessing a little was 13 to 14. If you look across the street toward the office you will see a blue arrow, walk past it to the back right corner of the fence area behind the parking lot and you will find the path to holes 14-17. After 17 you follow the trail to the right threw the woods back to 6 and 18's tees. I then went in search of holes 1-5. Having seen a basket from 18 east's tee I started there and found hole 1 just on the other side of the hedge behind 18 east's fairway. Holes 1-5 loop back around to the same open long strip as 16,17 and then you follow the same path back again to 6/18. Hole 1 was in it's right side position and the second half of the fairway was extremely over grown so much that I threw back over into 18 east's fairway to avoid it. Holes 4, 5, 16, and 17 I felt were filler holes or not that exciting, although these are some of the longer holes on the course they are mostly just that long. It seemed as there were a good bit of alt pins and some looked really fun adding elevated putts or some other fun features that could make for a nice regular change for a local.

Over all this was a really fun course, and If played in the right order the long open holes(4,5,16,17) might not seem so repetitive. I would love to see this course have a overall map of both courses on the kiosk, and then supply take with map/scorecards for players as this would take care of most navigation and signage issues. It would also be nice to see the missing or damaged tee signs get replaced or come up with another way to list par, distance, and position at the tees. Navigation could also be aided with some arrows or painted rungs on the basket to point to the next tees. I would have liked to have rated this course higher but it is lacking a few essentials that it needs to climb the ranks. Even with it's flaws if you add this course in with the East course they make for a nice day of FL disc golf.

Course Does Have Signs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 7, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

- the 'back 18', how often do you get that?
- course winds in a Giant Figure 8 pattern throughout the park

Cons:

- shots are not as varied as the front 18
- course can be confusing at times, as the signs do not deptict where the next whole begins
- signs are not always next to pad, leading to confusion
- tees are very spread out

Other Thoughts:

Navigating this course may be a little bit more challenging then the front, but it still makes for a good time
