Open course with little variety 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 7, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Great course for beginners-No hole is over 400ft so there is no real long shots needed here. Beginners can really get a feel for the game and get some good obsticals on holes 1-4.
-Small river doesn't come into play much, but is a nice diversion on a couple holes.
-Course is in a city park along walking paths so the maintenance of the course is always really good.

Cons:

-Layout is awkward-You have to walk quiet a ways down a path to get to hole one, then play 3 holes in that area. Walk along the river to play hole 4 and then across the road behind the community center sits holes 5-9.
-On a windy day holes 5-9 are just too much out in the open. There is no variety on these holes, just straight open field shots.
-Little needed in the terms of variety of shots. A straight shot on every hole will get you where you need to be.
-There are concrete tee pads here, but they are very short. I have long legs and like to stride into my tee shot, so I have to either start on the grass or finish on the grass. Not ideal but workable. (At least the entire pad isn't bare ground.)

Other Thoughts:

I play here often enough because it's the closest course to my house. On a calm day I like playing the open holes on 5-9 to practice technique and different types of shots.

It's not a course I would frequent if it wasn't convenient, but it gets the job done for me on a regular basis.

Nicely maintained DGC in a nice large park with tons of activities. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 9, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Very beginner friendly. Don't let the water (10' wide creek) scare you if you are a beginner as it is only being thrown over twice and so close to the tee area it shouldnt be a problem. The hole running along the river has a large open area to bailout to the right to avoid the water.

2) Nice newer baskets that hold the discs well.

3) Despite being a beginners course the distance adds a challenge to the beginner. Short beginner courses are boring even for the beginner. This course at least gives the beginners some challenge in distance and although the water isnt really in play it will enter their minds! A few of the baskets also have some challenge because of trees and slopes.

4) Nicely maintained park with lots of other amenities. I even grabed a Mountain Dew after I finished #4 at the building. It was a good time for a cold in the can Moutain Dew.

Cons:

1) Could not find 3 tee areas because they are only marked with a 4x4 in the ground. With turf that is growing ridiculously fast right now, they are difficult to find. No signage to tell you where to start, the supposed course map was not there when I played. Got very confusing for me a couple times, so I just arbitrarily picked a spot to tee off from.

2) Practice basket is near the soccer goal, and nowhere near hole #1.

3) Concrete tee pads would be a reasonable upgrade along with a tee post indicating where the next tee is. The grade level tee areas are not very visible and difficult to spot when turf is growing so fast.

Other Thoughts:

Not a bad course, well maintained, and beginner friendly. Could use some signage to help out a newbie.

I am slightly embarrased I only had 1 birdie. There are 5 good birdie chances, the others are a little too long, at least for me to try and make birdie.

Would I go back no, but if I lived int he area and had limited choice I wouldnt mind playing this course again. It would get very boring though because there is not enough challenge to the course.
