Nice tee signs on a great layout of perfectly cut grass. challenging but also fun for all skill levels. my cousin played there and he doesn't even own a disc. lots of open holes and trees to throw through on a few holes. very fun overall don't miss out if your in the OC area.

not really any. only con i can think of is there was a little bit of trash an oddly dead birds in a few places. only got confused on once hole we threw to the wrong basket

Amazing layout on a perfectly groomed and designed Regional Park. In fact, this is the best neighborhood park course I've ever played, including the one in Auburn, CA. I loved the elevation features on practically every hole. There is a great mix of hyser & anhyser drives, with even a few overhand options. Fair amount of mature trees that surely add to the shape and difficulty of each hole. The course absolutely maximizes and optimizes the space available. This is an amazing multipurpose park, even without the DGCs!

The only thing I could even possibly gripe about was the evidence of obvious litter on some teeboxes and around the baskets, especially since there are ample trash cans available.

These are the highest grades I've ever given to a course. I honestly couldn't find anything I disliked about it, along with many things I really liked. It's difficult to believe that this course is actually 35 years old. The only evidence was the large number of birds didn't even flinch when I went near them. Please see my Back 18 review for comparison to Front 18. I hooked a sidearm onto the street from teebox #7, which ended up clanking the underside of an X3 (sorry again, lady!)

this was a truly nice experience. Good tee signs, Lovely clean park. Friendly locals. Good tee pads (or a path to throw from). Big park with other things to do but no issues with overlap from other park users. Played 9 alone and then hooked up w a pair of guys for the second nine. Nice folk.

I will pop back to this review if I can ever come up with one. Just a minor thing but fairways kind of overlap on 14 and 15. pair of 6 ppl parties on the course in front of us but happily encouraged us to play through.

Elevation of some kind on every hole, how common is that? Good mix of hole length... No crazy 800 footers (a waste when I see them) and no 150' footers to fill an unused space as we sometimes see. No real big signature hole stands out here, but all holes were worthy of the course. #1 is a nice downhill hyzer. #2 offered a double rolling hill profile that was unique. #3 was slight uphill and good fun. #4 was a annie mando and a basket in a tree area that was a choice to play your 2nd shot. Good stuff here. maybe my fave hole of the course. #5 is uphill to a big tree behind the basket. #6 was blind up and over the hill backed to the street but not an overthrow hazard really. #7no formal tee pad and basically shoots up the path, annie around the trees. #8 requires a low shot under the tree overhang. #9 is a beauty downhill sweeper. Really nice to float a disc all the way! #10 is a tough up hill bit not as uphill as 11 which is blind and up and over for a monster upshot. #12 is Looooooong, downhill and blind. Longer than you think it is. #13 is the double tree mando and once you are through the trees (easy to say that) t is a downhill slope to the basket. #14 is up to the basket on the slopw. Watch for a missed putt to roll way off (same for 16). #15 crosses 14 a bit but was not a big issue to basket below. 16 is a longer hole with the basket on the side slope. #17 shoots for the path to the basket. closest hole t any water risk and not much of a real risk here, really. #18 puts you back to the start, uphill, blind and to the big tree. All a good time and if typical of DG in Southern CA.... I need ot be back soon. Thank you!

Very fun course with lots of varienty. Very cool locals and relaxed atmosphere. It's FREE (most of the other courses in the area charge).

Can be crowded with non-disc folks since it winds around a couple playgrounds and bike paths.

I was really surprised. I flew in for the weekend and was in La Mirada to see a show and just showed up to play a quick round. I did not realize what a treat I was in for. The locals that play the course every day were really good about pointing out the trouble spots and keeping me on track. That and a 25 cent map from the pro shop made for a quick round on a great course.

-Great to play after the back once your arms warmed up.
-Cool and Shady!
-Nice use of the terrain and placement of tees and holes.

-Too close to the street.
-Water hazard by hole 13(friend lost his putter because of head wind).
-Way too many families there (can't blame them nice place for a family BBQ).
-Waiting way to much.

I like the course a lot because of the course. However the amount of people there on a Friday around 1pm is kinda annoying always yelling "FORE" every time you throw as compared to the back. All in all i still want to go back to play but more for the back.

This is a beautiful course that offers many challenges. There are several choices to be made in approach angles to each hole. Holes range from short to long, uphill to downhill, and open field to blind placements.Trees are both new growth placements and old well established trees with wide overhangs; really well done.

This course was real challenge on my younger kids that don't have the length on their drives yet.

I am so fortunate to live within a couple of miles of one of Californias premiere courses.

The course is immaculate. It's such a nice and peaceful place to play with your friends or by yourself. Some of the pin placements make you say...what was the guy thinking, but overall...this is the best course I've played this year.

On the weekends, it's so crazy crowded...I get worried about hitting one of the people there and ruining their day. Then I see a beautiful girl walk by and nail my driver and all is better.

Some of the pins don't play to the distance they are listed on the placards. Overall though, a wonderful disc golfing experience. This place has made my new love of the game even that much better.

- La Mirada's Front 18 plays over rolling grassy hills dotted with large mature trees. Pines, various deciduous species, and palm trees constitute the main obstacles. Elevation also provides some challenging situations. Sapphire blue water comes into play on a couple of holes, punishing errant shots. Immaculately groomed and maintained.
- Mandatories galore force certain tunnel shots or eliminate the ability to simply take a massive hyzer route around all the obstacles. Mandos are well-marked, usually with large red arrows taped to tree trunks.
- Good mix of longer bomb 'em style holes and shorter, accuracy-needed ones.
- Decent signage shows all possible pin positions but not the current location.
- Disc shop on site. Bathrooms, trashcans, etc. located throughout.

- Inconsistent tees, although not as bad as the back 18's. Concrete stubs at the front of some pads provide awkward protection against foot-faults, at the risk of tripping. Some tees are not level in the least. As with the back 18, slick sidewalks are recruited as tee pads in several places; however, the front 18's tees are generally in better shape and easier to deal with.
- Plays close to roadways and parking lots.

- La Mirada has a very suburban feel. It is impossible to play a round without bumping into other park goers, although it doesn't create any real problems.
- Make sure you hit all of the many mandatories. This course punishes errant drives.

This is by far the nicest course I've played yet. The park has great signage with fun holes that are challenging yet playable. The grass and landscape is very well maintained, and the course is free to play.

Many visiting the park aren't there for the disc golf, and can get in the way. You have to be careful with bystanders.

I had a great time playing this course.

Beautiful park setting with lush green grass and scenic trees. Boatloads of elevation in play on this course along with a variety of lefty vs. righty holes. Big concrete tee pads. Up to six pin positions on some holes which are actually routinely rotated by the local club provide a constantly changing course. Fantastic tee signs with tape indicating the current pin position. Awesome locals: I was playing solo and every group I came up to let me play through without me even asking. Restrooms, drinking fountain, and a minimalistic pro-shop on site. Practice basket by the pro-shop.

Sadly, almost all of the holes I laser measured were pretty far off of the posted distances. I'm not sure if that's because pin sleeves have been moved through the years and signs not updated, but it was disappointing for such a storied course. When I played at least one (#10) basket was in a pin position for another hole (#11A)... really guys? With six positions on a hole you still have to go put a basket somewhere else?? That doesn't help first timers trying to figure out the course. Beware non-disc golfers relaxing in the park close to some fairways.

I was thinking that the water would come into play but it never really does; that's probably a good thing considering the number of non-disc golfers hanging out around the lake.

I'm not sure if this is a pro or a con, so it's going into "other": this course didn't seem hard enough. What I mean is I carded a lot of 3's. If you had a bad tee shot you could almost always make up the difference on the upshot. The only 4's I took were because of my poor putting. Seems like the challenge of this course is to make tee shots that put you in birdie putt position. That's complicated for the first timer staring at multiple pin positions and incorrect distances.

I'm assuming there's a tourney/safari layout that is played which causes the Pro players to adore this course so much.

Overall the park is nice and the course is fun. The park is well taken care of considering the number of people in the park. The grass was well mowed and there are tee signs on each hole. The layout is fun and you should expect to shoot well under par on this course.

Nice elevation changes

There are homeless people sleeping on the fairway, near the baskets, on near tee signs.

There are people everywhere. Setting up shop right in the fiarways.

The design is old and not designed for today's long range discs. I played this course with a flash, a leopard, and a putter and shot 6 down w/ a circle 5 and I'm not that good. I would consider this course a pitch and put. Typically for courses this short I like tigher lines, this course is wide open with easy gaps to hit.

Reading the reveiws I expected an eipc course. This wouldn't even crack the top 20 courses within 2 hours of my house in San Antonio. I bet the course is more fun during the week when there aren't hundreds of people in the park.

Don't get me wrong, this course is fun and if you are in the area you should definately play it, but it isn't as good as the others who've reviewed here make it out to be.

Although not as nice as the last time I played 4 years ago the front 18 is still one of my favorite places to play. Its in a great park and has some fantastic holes. Its well maintained but still could be better. I recommend this to anyone who has the chance to play.

• Solid concrete pads on almost every hole (some holes tee off from a sidewalk edge
• Elevation change on practically every hole. Up down, gradual, drastic, you name it. The park is located among a swath of large rolling hills and the layout makes the most of it
• Multiple pin positions that change regularly
• Multiple course layouts (18 and "Socal 9" ultra long layout)
• Baskets are not brand new but are well maintained
• Well mowed and well manicured fairways and trees
• DTWorld (Discovering the World) is only 3 miles away and has the best selection of discs around.
• FREE to play!
• Maps available in the pro shop (at least that's what I heard, I haven't used a map here in 10 years)
• Lots of variety in length - holes play 200 foot up to 500 foot.
• Great Local scene and most players are very friendly with excellent etiquette.

• Plenty of people oblivious to disc golf inhabit the park, especially on weekend days. Initially this seems like a "disc golf exclusive area", but the fishermen and picnickers tend to be completely clueless. I have played a several rounds where my disc has been tossed back to me at least twice.
• Course is not freeway close or centrally located
• Pro Shop is not disc golf knowledgable and has overpriced discs for sale regularly. There was an ownership change in 2008-09 and things have gone downhill since then. It is now focused almost solely on tennis.
• Baskets do not have numbers, making some holes confusing, especially for first timers here. Bring a guide your first time if possible.
• Some "walkbacks" to next holes interrupt the logical flow. Especially apparent on the 6 to 7 and 7 to 8 transition, as well as the 10 to 11 transition.
• Place turns into an oven in the summertime. Expect temps 10 to 15 degrees hotter than the beach.
• Sewer system runs shallow in the ground and can cause soggy conditions when it rains. Especially on Hole 16.

La Mirada: the monster L.A. area course that has been home to plenty of professional caliber championships. It is no wonder that so many top pro's have this course listed in their all time favorites. The serious disc golfers truly come out to play at LaMa, and it should be known that this is not a beginner course. You need to bring out the big guns on plenty of holes here, and more often than not you are playing to a basket that is 300+.

The elevation changes among the rolling hills are the feature that sets this course apart from any others. Especially the large hill that houses holes 7 through 13 - it is a monster. Get ready to get plenty of exercise climbing up and down this monster. My personal favorite is the "ascension of the cornice" on Hole # 11, one of the hardest uphill holes known to man. You will truly feel like a glutton for punishment after finishing a round here.

This is probably my favorite Socal course, and it manages to challenge me every time I play it. Although the Back 18 course onsite is also a great course, I prefer the Front 18 and think that more attention is paid to it by both the park maintenance as well as players. It is routinely 3 times more crowded than the back. Some prefer the length and variety of the back , but the hills aren't as big and it is more of a "big arm" layout. There are plenty of make-able birdies on the front, but the back is far more unforgiving.

Signature holes tend to be # 1, # 12, # 13, and # 15. Wait a second, are those all downhill shots? The downhill holes are absolutely epic on this course. The shot "from the gym" on # 15 is one of the most drastic elevation drops I have ever seen on a 300 foot hole. The tee is located on quite a hill. # 13 is ultra tricky lakeside (not listed as a water hazard here but it definitely is). The mando is between 2 palm trees at the top of the hill and is near impossible to navigate for some.

Overall, a great course. It has its flaws but the good points far outweigh the bad points.

Of all the So Cal courses, this is the best. Here's why.

Site: Central to the LA/OC metro area, nice suburban neighborhood. Major brick-and-mortar DG retail outlet about two miles away.

Park: Clean, green, and groomed. Multiple activities (water park, ball golf course, tennis, handball, baseball, etc) a short walk away.

Course: Fair and open, plays around a lake and (holes 7-12) some serious slopes. Trees provide challenge without the well-known "pinball" effect. Multiple pin placements with baskets changed regularly.

When you're done here, you know you've played a good round but you never feel like the course ate you up and spit you out.

A few dings to keep it from getting 5 discs:

"Pro shop" mainly serves the tennis players (DTW just down the road though).

Can get crowded on the weekends.

There's another 18-hole DG course within walking distance - 2x the fun

If you're coming to So Cal, this is a must play. Lots of friendly locals to show you around - plan on 1½ hours for a round.

This course has it all:
- Variety of distances
- Elevation changes
- Good mix of obstacles and Mando's
- Multiple pin locations
- Well maintained
- Free
- Not overcrowded

This is an awesome course that offers a balance of technical holes as well as a good number of opportunities to air it out. Keep the distance driver handy, there are plenty of 350+ ft holes.

The course can be a bit confusing if you are visiting for the first time. A BUNCH OF THE BASKETS HAD THE WRONG NUMBER ON THEM!!. If you are playing this course for the first time definitely join in with some locals (who will most likely be happy to help). There are no signs pointing you to the next tee. You also have plenty of opportunities to yell FORE as some fairways tend to overlap, but everyone is pretty chill. And lastly there are some people in the park that are totally oblivious that this is a disc golf course.

This course is absolutely worth the drive. The course offers a good challenge and a great atmosphere. But as a first timer you will definitely need either a course map, local guide or both.

-First and for most what a beautiful park for a disc golf course, if you have a big arm some of these holes are for you, environment is peaceful and friendly, grass throughout the park some old discatchers, some new, elevation changes? Yes, that is what makes this course a challenge along with trees, mandatory's, and a few park goer's, hole 9 seemed to be a hang out for some locals selling sodas, candy, snacks, we had to yell FORE! A few times. Teepads are all concrete and hole signage is at every hole indicating pin placement and yardage for each placement. Holes are easy to follow and navigate to the next tee. Very clean as I saw some trashcans throughout the park, would like to see a few more and some benches to take in all the beauty of this 36 hole course..well 5 of them previously removed on the back 18. Pro shop located near hole 1, didn't visit but im sure you will find it useful to purchase DG items, Oh and one other Pro is that this course is FREE as stated in other reviews. No problems with any other DGer's so if you show up solo im sure it wont be a problem joining a group.

Too many Mandies..im the type of DGer who likes to use different routes and mandies limits me on doing so. Too wet!! Ive heard of alot of picnicers there but it wasnt bad when we were there. im sure this course could get very busy during good weather days, like summer.

if your in the area come play this course, well worth the drive as i drove an hour to get there to play with some really cool heads.

This is a nice course with some very challenging golf. It does play for advanced Am's and better, with no other tees for players less than that. The course would do better to have better signs and perhaps a rotating dial to indicate current pin placement. The course wasn't busy, so most of the time spent waiting will be to wait for non DG'ers crossing the fairway. We did notice some groups didn't have the best ettiquette and were throwing prior to a hole being completed. It seemed to lack a signature hole. This course would be rated much higher with better signage, a better flow, and to appeal to a bigger audience of skill levels, some extra tee pads. This course is well worth a play, especially for better players.

Couldn't find much signage as far as where the next hole was other than a couple signs at the pro shop showing which direction hole 1 of both courses were. Luckily I had a few guides with me.
Its not DG exclusive, so you did have a lot of people walking around. Most of them, however, seemed to be aware that there was a lot of people playing this day (and there was a lot!) and tried to move along quickly.
Some of the players we came across seemed to be a bit douschey

This was a really, really, REALLY nice course. It was pretty busy, as we were there on a Saturday, but we didn't really have to wait for anyone at any tees. There were a group of guys playing behind us though that were in a big hurry, as they were trying to throw as soon as we reached our drives, nearly hitting us on several occasions, and never once did we hear a "Fore", or even a "Hey, watch out." After about 8 holes of that and several stink eyes they finally asked to play through. We figured that would be safer than catching a disc to the head. It's a shame that we almost let that bone headed group almost ruin what was a lovely day at the park. Outside of that group, this was a lovely course, and I would highly recommend it, even if you don't live close. I came from the Antelope Valley, about an hour and a half from the course, and it was well worth the drive, especially considering that not only is there 2 18 hole courses there, but a few miles away is a pretty nice little shop called Discovering the World that sells every kind of disc you ever want (at least it seemed that way). So if you live in the So Cal area, or are just passing through, definitely take a stop by here. If not for the jerky group of people, (which I'm told isn't the norm), this would have easily been a 4-4 1/2 disc review!

-Excellent course design. Weird mandos and tight tunnels paired with steep rolling hills make this course a dream for Blue and Gold level players
-Water hazard. Much of the Front 18 wraps around a little pond. If you're afraid of geese, stay at home. La Mirada is one of the only courses in the area with the added risk of water.
-Great baskets and tee pads (when it's dry...a lot of these tees get really slick or submerged when the course is wet)
-Practice basket near the tee for hole 1 and the pro shop

-Empty course. Don't think I have ever had to wait for other golfers playing the Front 18

-Lots of pedestrian traffic. Fishermen, picnickers and bird-feeders abound.
-Course gets pretty wet in the winter.
-Blind shots combine with steep hills to make for some crazy rolls off the bounce. Use a spotter!
-Being largely situated around a busy pond and streets, there is always a lot of noise and the course feels incredibly exposed. Only one good spot to chill and relax and it is often in use.
-Man-eating geese
-Course is a little tricky to navigate...make sure and bring a guide!

This is a world class course sitting on an incredibly overused slice of park. You WILL be waiting for pedestrians, lost fishermen, toddlers and soccer players. If you want to try this course, play early and mid-week to minimize aggravation. Remove the pedestrians from this course and it instantly turns into a 4-disc course.
Sans pedestrians, this is an incredibly challenging course. If you ever have the opportunity, check out one of the major tourneys that are held regularly here. Watching the pros navigate low ceilings and mandos is disc golf as high-art.
Long, tight and technical, this is a really hard course with few places to relax. This course is very highly touted and is worth the trip if you are in the area (though the Back 18 is FAR superior.)

-Variety. Uphill, downhill, blind, tunnel, open, everything.
-2 practice baskets near the pro shop.
-Descent baskets. Mostly concrete tee pads, a few are on existing paths.
-Lots of long holes, and some shorter ones too.
-Locals have been helpful in helping navigate the course.
-Really a beautiful course surrounding a stocked lake (which does not come into play really on any holes).
-Pro shop that sells a descent variety of mostly Innova discs. Some Discraft too. It's a tennis shop though so don't expect much advice.
-Great quality for a free course.
-Course flows really well.

-Some baskets are close to eachother making first time navigation a little confusing.
-It might be me but the baskets all seem a little low.
-HOARDS of school children fill the park when school gets out, and they dont seem to follow any paths. You really have to just chuck it and hope for the best. Yell fore.

I can see why people call this the best course in Southern California, but I don't know if I agree with that 100% There really is not much I can think of that could improve it except for the fact that it really is NOT DG Exclusive at all.
First tee is near the pro shop in the middle of all the tennis courts. They sell maps for 25 cents, and you should probably pick one up the first time out.
First shot is blind, and if you throw it too far its going in the lake. Pretty unlikely though.
It does not hurt to have a spotter on a few spots on this course. Discs can pick up speed and head right for the lake. You would think that the little rain gutters would stop your disc, but they don't.
I definitely love playing this course, but good advice is to get there earlier in the day instead of later.
Update: Went to play a rain round last Friday, and there was a track meet taking up the ENTIRE park. It was impossible to play, so we left. This was at about 3:30pm. Just FYI, you might want to call the pro shop before you go on a Friday afternoon.
