Pros:
Laguna Lakes Park is a large county park with lots of room to roam and run your dogs. There is a boat launch, picnic areas, lots of walking paths, playgrounds and a dog park. The course begins right by the parking lot with a kiosk that has the hole 1 sign and a disc return box. There isn't much worry about losing discs as this course is mostly open. The on-line map is clear and easy to follow even with a couple of long walkouts. The tee signs are nice and big and colorful. I wish they had included the next tees. The baskets are Discatchers with a number on the yellow band.
The course is mostly instinctive to follow. You can usually spot the next tee from the basket as the grounds are so wide open. The tee signs list up to five basket positions but most didn't indicate which position you're playing today. Maybe, four signs had a clip showing which position, A-B-C, etc. more on the signs later.
The front nine plays in this mostly open area with a few scattered trees to avoid. The wind and distances are your challenges here. The designer attempted to hide or place baskets behind the trees, as much as possible.
The back nine plays through a large picnic grove of trees and I found these holes much more interesting. My favorite hole was # 11 today with the basket set just beyond this trees with multiple gnarly hanging branches. # 13 is a gauntlet hole playing down a narrow fairway with a barb wire fence on your left and a row of trees on your right. If you hyser over the fence, don't climb it, there is a walk through gate by the basket.
Cons:
The course was saturated in places today due to the recent heavy rains.
The front nine especially is a point and shoot course. Very little shot shaping is required.
Semi-long walkouts after # 9 and # 16.
Wind is a constant.
The tee signs list 3 or 4 or 5 basket positions but only 3 or 4 had clips and the rest left you guessing. Any kid can throw the clip away. Whoever changes the positions needs to implement the bolt system for these signs. It would work here. A hole needs to be drilled through the sign and wood backing by each letter basket position. Then this person inserts a colored bolt and nut through the hole and change it whenever basket positions are changed.
Other Thoughts:
Laguna Lakes will appeal to those players who are drawn to the more open courses although this course really has a nice blend between open and slightly wooded and technical holes. Like a previous reviewer noted, players who have a 400' drive will enjoy this course more than us mere mortals. I would venture to say players with a 400' drive would enjoy most courses more than the rest of us. The amenities are first rate and the course is designed well so as to avoid the crowds.
