A distance thrower's course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 9, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course uses what old growth trees are here to the best that can be utilized. There is a nice scenic view of the lake. The grass is mowed frequently.
There are a few holes that have decent lines to hit and there are a couple holes that provide both uphill and downhill throws as well.
This is a good course if you want to test that new driver out because many of the holes have length to them. Most of the nickels have been painted bright orange to help you spot them easier. Also there have been a lot of young trees planted to help define fairways better and provide line shaping.
My favorite hole here was #10 with the protected basket.
Also hole 14 with the 2 cedars guarding the basket, 15 with a gap to hit right off the box and hole 16 with the sharp dog leg left with the basket guarded were some interesting and memorable shots.

Cons:

The lack of signage, what signs are left here are dilapidated to say the least. A lot of the holes are mostly wide open making wind be a factor in your round.
Also with many of the holes lacking shade it gets plenty hot here in the OK summer.
A few more trash cans and benches would be nice here.
Directional arrows or painted rungs on the baskets might help the out of towner navigate their way a bit easier.

Other Thoughts:

I've played this course several times and improvements have been made from my first time such as the mowing on a more regular basis and the planting of young trees.
The trees will make this course play that much tougher and will provide a bit of a break from the wind. Its just going to take some time for them to mature.
Kudos to the PCDGC for all their efforts and improvements on this and the other 2 courses in Ponca City. With this course which allows you to air out your drives, the Bois D Arc course which will test your accuracy(and mental game), and the War Memorial course which is a good entry level course, Ponca City has all their bases covered. Play the 2 lake courses as a pair and you will enjoy how they compliment each other.

Pros:

Awesome views of the lake. Good for wind practice and long distance throws. There is a SICK wooded 18 hole course directly adjacent to it.

Cons:

Mostly open. Hyzer hyzer hyzer. Poor use of terrain.

Other Thoughts:

We plan on re-doing the layout in the future to make better use of trees and elevation.

Lake Ponca 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 25, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice part of the lake to play at, some holes have water in play (1,3,4,7,16,17).
Course plays good for both right and left hand players.
Big concrete tee pads.
Most holes have signs only 1, 3, and 5 were missing.
All the baskets were there and in good shape but #6 but it is playable.
The grass was at the time I last played cut short, east to skip. I've been out here when it was tall but only effected rollers.
Long but stll birdieable holes, some.

Cons:

Missing a few signs, 1, 3, and 5. Someone has came out and painted on the tees a 9 hole course that starts at the south parking area and ends there, so this maybe throw new players to the course off. Like Hole #1 has a #6 on the concrete tee.

Other Thoughts:

The course is long and the wind coming off the lake is probable strong most of the time. Some holes play close to the water but should not be a big deal but on hole #16, and #17. If the lake is up hole #16 sets about 4ft from the waters edge.
Good course but takes some big throws and a little time to walk, Hour and a half to two.
