Fun Little Warm up or Training Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 19, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautiful small course in a gorgeous - ahem - wait for it - PASTORAL setting.
On a church property - I wanted to do this at the church I'm pastor at, but the footprint's too small at mine, so am delighted that someone in the area did it.
Once you get it, the course flow makes perfect sense.
Not a lot of space, but the space used is used remarkably well and efficiently.
Very close to two other disc golf courses, and a brand new disc golf shop. Parma is quickly becoming the go to place in the Cleveland area for our wonderful sport!
The lake holes offer a challenge that can be rather deceptive. You look at it and think "this thing will be easy to avoid." In truth, it is a disc magnet. My group has lost four discs to it in two visits.
Pro and Am pads.
There's a nearly empty fishing tackle box in the woods near hole nine, in very good shape. Just an FYI :)

Cons:

Natural Tee pads. Not really a con, as I couldn't possibly ask the good people who put this course in to spend any more money to promote our sport, but both times I've played it the ground has been pretty muddy, which makes a run up a bit on the hazardous side.
Holes could be better marked. Now, in defense of the course designer it is obvious that they marked each tee when they were installed. Many of the tees are marked, but sadly some are not, and without a course map it can be difficult to navigate the first time through. Be particularly careful from holes 5 - 6. Up to that point (and indeed after) the progression from hole to hole was fairly straight forward, and made a lot of sense. We lost our way after 5 and ended up in the woods. To make matters more interesting, there were pegs in the ground labeled "7 basket" and "7 tee" but 7 was nowhere near the woods. Please see other thoughts for course progression.
Hole 5 plays over a parking lot, and both times we played there was a truck parked almost directly in front of the tee pad. As long as you loft your shot, you'll have no problems, and the challenge is even kind of cool, but I have to admit to being nervous about hitting that thing each time I drive off of that particular tee.

Other Thoughts:

Hole progression: - sorry there are no distances, none are available at the course. I would guesstimate that the longest hole is 3, at MAYBE 300 feet. I could be wrong.
1 - Tee is behind a building in front of the church. (building looks like a house) Hole is toward York Road through slight tree cover. There are woods to your right.
2 - Tee is a few feet from hole 1, toward York Road. The fairway hugs the driveway heading towards York.
3 - Tee is a few feet from hole 2, and the fairway crosses the driveway. This hole leads away from York, and deeper into the church property. There are woods to your right, but an open fairway.
4 - Woods to the right.
5 - Over a parking lot, to the right of the playground.
6 - Head around the playground, you'll throw to nearly the tee for hole 1.
7 - Head toward the lake. The fairway hugs the lake, and it is quite easy to lose discs here.
8 . Similar to 7.
9. Lake is now behind you, and the hole is in light tree cover.

I know that's not the greatest walkthrough, was just trying to go by memory. This really is a great little course, especially in tandem with the very nearby Tri C -West course, or as a warm up for Veterans Memorial Park. This course would benefit from more permanent tee markers, a course map, and perhaps a number on each basket indicating which hole it is. I look forward to hopefully many, many rounds at this beautiful little course, as it is extremely close to my house, and fun to play. I can't stress that part enough. This might not be the biggest or the most technical course, but man, it sure is FUN! :)
