Lamar Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-- There is a map, but it is badly faded.
-- Tee signs have hole number, par and distance, although distances on some appear to be off.
-- Nice use of slight elevation in the park.
-- Nice use of the trees in the park
-- Decent flow, easy to follow; baskets have number on the post, below the catching basket.
-- Long (12 feet?) concrete tee pads.

Cons:

-- No parking lot. Park on Center Drive. No. 1 tee is near the pavilion.
-- No restrooms.
-- Safety concerns: No. 4 basket is really close to No. 5 tee; 7 basket is basically in the 8 fairway; anyone in the 9 fairway is in danger of getting hit by a drive on 8.
-- With only three course in a city of about 350,000, expect it to be crowded. I played at 9 a.m. on a Sunday, and there was a group on just about every tee.

Other Thoughts:

-- With four holes in the 240-250 range and no holes as long as 350 feet, players with reasonable arms will have a birdie chance on every hole.
-- A previous review mentioned two tee pads (left and right of the sign). Those exist for the first few holes and then seem to disappear.
-- Hole information on this site lists two tee pads (red, shorter; white, longer), but I saw no evidence of the shorter tee pads.
-- This is a fairly typical city park course. It is a little bit squeezed into the space, however. That creates some of the safety concerns.
-- No benches at tee pads, but there are benches along in the park.

Beginner Friendly 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 2, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great place for a beginner. The wind and few strategic trees add some difficulty. Course map with short boxes, double chained by a guy in a kilt...

Cons:

Tee boxes are dirt, , not clearly marked mandos (#3 & #8). short tee boxes not easy to find with out looking at course map.

Other Thoughts:

Park redesigned in 2010 to avoid some yards. Blind draw doubles every Tues 6:00 pm, sign up taken at 5:30.

Lamar Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a sweet 9 hole course, perfect for a quick round. The holes are nicely laid out with god flow, a lot of potential for some multi holes (tee 1 basket 2 etc) if the course is not too busy. Areal confidence boosting course and a pleasure to play.

Cons:

The holes are very simple, a decent player should be expecting to get 2's on most holes. Great practice for long approaches.

Other Thoughts:

The course is really well kept, there are some shaded benches with to escape the sun / leave the picnic. People were very friendly at the course, as were the drivers who's car go hit!

Make sure you make it to the other courses in the area too.

Take bug spray!
