A sketchy disgrace 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 26, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Well, that there are baskets here is a pro. They look like older model Discatchers but they're rusted badly and with very stiff chains that bounce soft putts out easily.

- Basket for #15 has been repaired so it's no longer on the ground.

- Plenty of parking, and it's near other Vineland courses if you're looking for a multi-course day of disc golf.

- Beautiful, tall old hardwood trees provide shade and are abundant enough and used well enough to make the holes semi interesting even though the terrain's all flat.

- Grass is mowed by the city and I haven't seen the garbage piles that others mention; they must been cleaned up periodically.

- Little else.

Cons:

- REALLY SKETCHY. First time I played there were a number of apparently drugged-out homeless hanging out in the pavilion by #11 and #18 hollering, stumbling around, and making uncomfortable commentary about my friend and I. Even more uncomfortable was a man with his pants halfway to his knees waddling across the fairway of #5 talking loud gibberish to himself, who then just stood there in my friend and mine's way for 5 minutes while he stared off at nothing in the woods... In case this was an "off day" for Landis, I decided to give it one more try. Well, second time I played there were people staring incessantly at me and making gibberish calls from the bus stop bench by #5... Enough said. Needless to say, I will not be coming back a third time.

- HORRID NAVIGATION. No course map exists that I could find. There's a billboard by where the first tee used to be but there's absolutely nothing on it. Yes there are 4x4 posts marking the remnants of tee signs at every tee except #1, 7, 10, and 16, but almost none of them are numbered. Only #3, 5, 8, 12, 17, and 18 have numbers on the tee post. Even having been here before, I still spent at least half an hour wandering and trying to figure out the hole layouts again my second time here.

- The flat terrain is pretty boring, though the big trees help.

- No tee pads, just grass, which would be ok if there was a nice tee sign for each hole - but there aren't.

- Rusted baskets in bad need of repair.

Other Thoughts:

- IF you can play when NO ONE is at the park (like maybe during a weekday morning or a dreary weather day), AND if you already know the hole layouts, then it's safe enough to give it a go and it might actually be a modestly enjoyable round. I gave it a 0.5 star rating instead of a 0 because this is possible. Otherwise the place gives an abandoned, vandalized, addict-hangout vibe that isn't worth the visit.

- Don't play the back nine holes near the pavilion (#11, 17, and 18) if anyone is there and you don't want a nerve-wracking uncomfortable experience.

- If you dare to give it a go, the first tee is supposed to be on the east side of the park, in the grass next to the small parking lot just east of the big baseball field in the center of the park. That first tee sign is gone, so pick your favorite spot by the empty billboard. Good luck, you brave soul!
