(2.934 Rating) A lightly wooded course with new baskets and new signage.
- CHARACTER - I could tell this one had gotten some recent freshen up items. The signage looks great and is informative. I just wish it had next tee direction. Langan also has new Veteran baskets and they were a joy to throw at. Other amenity items includes seating at almost every hole, large concrete tees, multiple basket placements on nine holes and red stakes marked for a full set of front tees. There's also a community board at the start of the course, but it was basically void of any information.
- MODEST CHALLENGE - More of a bomber course than a technical course with enough length to appease Intermediate level players. I enjoyed the pucker-up shots on (A), (3) and (18) where I had to really concentrate to not leave a souvenir. I think a 900 rated player will average even par out here with just a couple holes that will challenge Advanced players to score well.
- UNIQUENESS - Langan's hole variety is fairly typical hole to hole with a few curve balls. The finishing hole is a true island green complete with a bridge and water on all sides. Hole (8) is a 600 foot bomber hole. A few holes bring into play a parallel manmade drainage ditch. A few shots pocket around some unique sprawling trees and tropical vegetation. No really much in the way elevation usage, but to be fair, there wasn't any available. Maybe hole (15) drops by 15 feet.
- FINISH - My favorite 3 holes where (15), (17) and (18), Had the course stopped at (14) I would have given this course a 2.5 rating.
- MAINTENANCE - For the most part, a well taken care of park. I spotted some trash along the water's edge a few times, especially on (18), but that is to be expected when the creeks are being fed from high population areas. The entire park was mowed and there were no large branches in fairways. A few tees look like they need repair, but all the surfaces are way better than natural ground.
- SKILL LEVEL FRIENDLY - A nice course for a large segment of the disc golf population. The front red stakes are perfect for those around an 800 rating and the whites tees are perfect for those around a 900 rating.

A solid course with a couple minor issues
- NAVIGATION - Doable, but less than desirable. To start, no course map at the community board. As mentioned above in the pros, no next tee direction on the signage. No navigational cues at the baskets. Baskets are not numbered. There were 4 or 5 occasions where I stood at the basket, looked around, and ultimately strolled the wrong way for a hundred feet and then changed my mind. The only saving grace is the openness of the layout and the fact that a majority of the next tees can be seen from the prior basket. To end on a positive note, the course is very cart friendly.
- LOOSE DISC OPPS - I found the inclusion of water elements to be beneficial for my experience and I increased the course rating for it. However, there will be many that hate the amount water in play and the unforgivable element it presents. Don't miss left on bonus hole (A) or (3). Anyone that does will likely be playing with one less disc. The finishing hole is a true island green surrounded by water and the water is cloudy enough to conceal a disc that's just one foot under water.
- PARKING - Hole (18) finishes 650 feet from the parking area.
- SPACING - I had to wait several times for walkers on adjacent pathways. Although only one hole throws over a pathway, about a dozen of them have park roads or pathways paralleling the fairway edge. Not a major issue, just less than ideal.
- TIME PLAY - Figure 80 to 90 minutes for a solo and 2 and a half hours for a foursome.

A solid utility course that I'm sure gets a fair amount of play. If I lived in the neighborhood I'd be here weekly. Langan is currently the sixth highest rated course in Alabama on DGCR, a ranking I personally don't feel is accurate anymore. I barely have it in my top 20 out of 73 Alabama courses played as of this review. Among Alabama courses with at least 4 trusted reviewer reviews, it ranks 16th in the state. Regardless, still a nice spin if in the area. For those outside the area having not played in the Mobile area yet, The Admiral should be the first stop.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - A pleasant easy going feel of a course. A few holes like, (3) and (17) for example, look stellar. However, much of the course is either lightly wooded or an open parks style setting. None of these holes are eyes sores, most just won't get anyone scrambling to take a picture. In totality, I scored the course as average beauty.

Langan is an open park style course that uses variations of distance to create a majority of its difficulty. Large trees are scattered throughout the flat landscaped plot of grassy park land. The concrete tees are gigantic, the tee signs are excellent, and the baskets are in great shape. The park features a walking trail, but it barely interacts with the course play. It's big area, be prepared to do a lot of walking.

Gameplay was pretty typical for this style of course. The holes don't require much fairway shot shaping. Errant throws won't be too severely punished due to nonexistent rough. Big drives are rewarded with birdie chances. Pars are fairly easy to come by for the distance challenged. All in all, I though throwing here was simple yet fun.

Navigation seems like it should have been pretty straight forward, but wasn't at times. Sometimes I got mixed up about where the next tee pad was located. Walking from 7 to 8 and the last few holes without a map to consult had me walking in circles, which was pretty annoying. The jumble of baskets toward the back of the course made it tough to figure out which tee to walk towards next. If players want to throw the reds, it might be a good idea to walk to the long tees to take a peek at the tee signs. I could not find 19.

I brought a full bag with backups because I was afraid of water hazards gobbling up my favorite discs, all for not. The chances of losing a disc to water OB was fairly low. I really only used a few distance drivers from long tees. After the drives, putters sufficed for most approaches. Mids were barely ever thrown during my round. Ditch the extra discs, unless you have a cart, it's not worth the carrying around extra weight.

Other other thoughts: I have been waiting for the weather to be less thundery for a trip to Mobile for the past 2 months. I picked a day that had a low likelihood of thunder and still got caught in a brief but powerful thunderstorm. It turns out that Mobile is one of the most lightning prone cities in all the US. It might be a little overboard for a course review, but here are some lightning safety rules to follow to avoid becoming a lightning statistic:

- postpone activities promptly
- take shelter at the lowest point
- keep an eye on the sky
- listen for the sound of thunder
- suspend games or practices
- listen to NOAA Weather Radio
- if you can't get to a shelter, stay away from trees

Two tee positions per hole - shorts are natural, marked by post, while longs are 12' long concrete, trapezoidal, with accompanying tee signs. Two pin positions per hole.

Not much - on the flat/open side, if that isn't your thing.

The public park this course is set within is absolutely huge, quite open, fairly flat, containing a large lake, and offering a variety of recreational options, including the disc golf course. While not wide open, a few large trees to avoid early|middle|late, but usually only one of the these, and the length (average ~360'), provide the challenge. About half the holes require controlled drives (i.e. avoid a few tree trunks) from the tee, while the other are "bombs away" with your favourite distance driver. Most tee-shots simply need straight throws, with a few requiring subtle turns or fades.

While there plenty of nice holes early, the course really finishes strongly, bringing elevation, water, and tightness into play. Holes 15&17 both throw down-slope, and you regain this on straightforward #16 in-between. Basket-15 sits on a "peninsula", with an open, watery trench in front/right, trench/brush behind. Basket-17 sits under the branches of a tremendous tree, guarded by water/tree-line on the left, and thick brush on the right/front, forcing a very accurate right-turning approach. Hole-18 has you throwing out of a wooded-window early, with water left, then a touch-shot to the basket, sitting on a small island.

Navigation, even without a map, was fairly simple. Of note: 1) tee-4 is nearest basket-2 - cross path to find tee-A, with basket on cul-de-sac near the water, from which it is easy to find tee-3; 2) from basket-14, cross road, pass tee-16, pass bushes, to find tee-15 on left.

A fine play for those who like their courses on the open side, but still requiring good control in certain situations.

Langan's a cool course - scenic, playing across a large park. there are also drainage ditches/creeks/trees running through the course and a small pond providing plenty of hazards

After hole 14 it gets confusing - the closest tee to basket 14 is tee 17.... tee 15 is further back, and 16 plays back from where you came.

Gave it a 3 because it has a lot of basics covered, but even w/ the water hazards and trees it gets a little repetitive. Be prepared to work out your arm!

Nice scenic park with other activities to keep you occupied after your round. Mostly long open holes with some water that comes into play. Great course to learn rollers on.

Course always seems to be under renovation. I haven't played there in several years but it was always getting changed up so navigating it quickly wasn't always easy. Some holes seems to mirror each other.

Worth the stop with USA, Springhill Hobbit, Cottage Hill and other courses close by.

Good long concrete tee pads with Mach III baskets that are in good shape. This is a good course in a very big park that seems to be well taken care of by the locals/park department. It is a fairly open course with little elevation, but with scattered trees on most every hole and lots of OB. The design utilizes these trees very well to force the intended shot and allow for a large variety. There is a good mixture of long and short shots, as well as multiple pin placements on most holes to offer even more variety for all skill levels.

There are a couple of holes that play along side the water and several holes that play along side a fairly large ditch that usually contains water. Holes 9-11 contain a concrete drainage ditch that is usually played as OB. There are good tee signs on every hole, with seemingly correct distances and nice benches placed on several of the holes.

Although the park is in good shape, I personally wish the tall grass near the ditch was kept clean in areas, although this is very minor. Also as mentioned, it would be nice if a realistic par was listed on the tee signs instead of listing everything as Par 3. If players want to play everything as Par 3, then that is their business. I do not know of any bathrooms on or near the course or any place with a water fountain. Also, the course does not loop back at the half way point (there was a forced re-design of the course due to the tennis center adding more courts).

This is a fun course to play, especially if you like letting loose on some long pulls, while still maintaining accuracy. Thankfully this course has a lot of OB and there is usually a decent amount of wind, but otherwise, there is not a lot of shule to lose a disc in or make any particular shot too difficult to recover.
The best part about Mobile in general is how well all the courses compliment each other. Each course offers a different and unique challenge that will test your overall game if you have time to play multiple courses while you are in the area. If you like longer open courses, then I would recommend a stop here if you are in the area.
