Pros:
Lenexa DGC is a super fast 9 that you can play sith one or two discs. I used my San Marino Roc on a few drives, but you could go putter all the way in a pinch.
The shortest hole is 123' and the longest is 171', so you don't really need a run up at the tee pad on any of the holes. The map shows multiple pin positions, but I didn't notice the unused post sleeves. If they do get moved, it still is not a long layout.
There are concrete tees, and the baskets are all good quality DISCatchers. There is a course map as you enter from the parking lot near the basketball court and the swimming pool. The park does have nice changes in elevation on a few holes. All of the fairways are well manicured grass.
I liked the holes with elevation change. 1, 2, & 3 all have some downhill action. 1 can give you a roll away if you hit the tree or just get unlucky. 2 and 3 have some rough near the basket that can get you in trouble if you lose control. 9 plays uphill toward the pool, and is probably the most difficult hole. There is a big tree halfway to the basket that can take you out.
There is a bridge behind the third basket that you have to cross get to the middle part of the course. 4, 5 and 6 are in a loop there, and you cross back over the bridge to continue on hole 7. Hole 4 does have lanes through the trees that require some control to navigate.
This is an ideal course to take a new player or a young child. It is fun for an experienced player just because it is possible to get a birdie on every hole. I had a putt on all of them but was unable to go 9/9.
Cons:
Super short and easy. You may get stuck waiting for a group on nearby holes that are close together. 7 and 8 are very close to one another. Families with small kids are likely to be out there, and not going at a fast pace.
Hole 8 and 9 had some muddy, squishy grass when I played. There hadn't been much rain prior to that. It is on the hill beneath the pool, maybe that contributed.
Other Thoughts:
Lenexa has a pretty cool park for their community, and the disc golf course is nice. It isn't an epic nine, more of a fun pitch and putt. It is set up well with great equipment, and it has interesting terrain, but it's just too easy to take seriously.
I was six under on my first round (21). Missed birdie putts on the other 3 holes. If I can get my girlfriend into disc golf I'm sure we will come here to learn some of the fundamentals. I wouldn't mind coming back to try for a 9 under, all birdie round. Who knows, maybe I get an ace or two in there as well.
