Typical Small-Town Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

LeTulle Park DGC is the only course for miles around, the nearest being on the outskirts of Houston. It's 18 holes, which is a big plus and makes a short day trip from Houston worth it. The course spans a big chunk of the park, but it's obvious where you need to start at when entering the park.

The disc golf itself utilized most of the park, from the wide open shots, to the low ceiling shorter holes and even a couple of water carries. I didn't feel any hole was super silly (though not all of the holes are perfect; more on that later). The hole distances were a good variety of shorter and longer. Any decent player should have the capability to "2" every hole out here every now and then

The baskets were Discatchers, and each hole had a tee sign with a colored map. It's obvious that someone took the time to research and design the course and put quite a bit of money into it. It's noticed.

Cons:

The first three holes are not fun holes. They are literally 450'+ holes with literally no obstacles and a 50% chance not mowed grass. Those really are the only holes I didn't enjoy at all.

I was under the impression that the course has evolved over time, and with that, the distances seem a little bit off, the tee signs are pointing the wrong direction, things like that. Navigation is not too difficult, but at places in the middle of the course, holes 8-12, there was a small amount of confusion on which basket I was throwing to. On that note, the Discathers have blue bands, which can be hard to see under the shade of the big oak trees scattered throughout.

Hole 14 and 15 play in the middle of camp sites, so there is a chance that campers will be posted up, making it impossible to play the holes safely.

Other Thoughts:

This was a course I had meaning to go down and play for quite some time. It didn't blow me away, but I didn't really expect it to. It's just a typical small-town course that has fun sprinkled with a whole lot of average.

You'll really have to go out of your way to bag this course as it't not really between two destination areas maybe except Corpus and Houston. Still, if you find yourself in Bay City, come and play a quick one.

Pros:

Really cool old-growth trees, wish they could have been incorporated more into the course. But then they probably would have been damaged, and that would make me sad. Water comes into play on several holes, and while it doesn't look deep, I am not going in there for a disc.
Mostly short holes, not too many obstacles. You could probably play this whole course with a mid-range and a putter.

Cons:

Some of the baskets are in disrepair, and hole 3 was missing a tee sign. No tee pads to be had, so the mud added to the adventure. I went face down on hole 2. Holes 2, 3, and 4 seemed out of place. Just wide open freshly mowed field. Kinda boring.

Other Thoughts:

This is a beautiful park, and the round was enjoyable. I would recommend this course for beginners, while intermediate and advanced might get bored. Not a lot of variety of shots needed, or huge distance. Hole 18 forces you to carry the water, but it's only 190 feet, so only a challenge to a beginner.

Letulle Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Only full course in the area. (Lake Texana has a course that plays backwards.)
Good use of park
Lots of shade
Not many other patrons walking through fairways.
Good signs and 2 maps. Entrance and Hole 1

Cons:

Leaves little to imagination
3 "Field" Holes
Lots of straight shots
No defined teeboxes

Other Thoughts:

This course has potential if tee boxes are added. Some holes leave you wondering where to throw from. It does seem that it was designed by some one who does not play as so many holes are dead straight. Many of these hole would benefit from simply moving the basket to the left or right. Also after hole twelve there are 6 consecutive short holes where only a putter is needed. I will definitely be playing this course again due to the limited availability in the area but will not suggest someone drive from say Houston simply to play it. If you are passing through Matagorda County this is would be a nice stop, however.
