Pros:

Leverich Park located in Vancouver Washington and is a very fun course weather you are just starting or a pro. Some fun shots here and there. The setting is very nice. Course was designed very well. Personally I love where the practice basket is. When you come in the parking lot is like a traffic circle but with parking spots all around it. Right in the middle is the practice basket which I like.

The pictures are in the winter layout.

Hole 1 plays on the side of a small hill short hole not much to say about it. Hole 2 is my favorite hole. This hole plays right through the woods. Shortest hole on the course and straight downhill. Hole 3 is a Par 3 it is a little long I play it as a Par 4. 400 feet. Hole 4 is a righthand backhand hyzer shot. Play a very over stable disc because you will need it. This hole is in the woods as well. Hole 5 is kind of like hole 3 but little different.
It would take me a long time to explain the rest of the holes.

This course honestly reminds me of Peir park with the winter layout and the terrain.

Great things about his course are...
-Great place to stop if you are on a road trip.
-Unlike a lot of courses I have played this course is much better than a lot of them.
-Fun wooded holes.

Some of these holes on the backside have this fun hole that goes over the water. I think this should be a permanent hole. But I wonder if this is a practice basket for the winter layout.

Cons:

This course gets a lot of highway noise from I-5.
Also this course gets Very busy as with mostly joggers and homeless people.
Steep cliffs of on the last hole off to the left. Parking by 8 and 9 is key with such a small regular parking lot. But if you park there your car could get hit by a disc.

Playground buy hole 7 does not really come into play. But they do have cookouts which makes it kind of loud near the 8th hole.

Homless population is very high around this area as well as the trash is all over the course. Some people were camping out near one of the tee pads which was really sketchy.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a little sketchy honestly. Interesting people hanging out there. But the setting was pretty nice with some fun shots here and there.

I would like to see this course remove the second to the last hole. That hole is straight uphill and has no purpose but playing up a hill.

Pros:

Nice little course located in a park that has a combination of grassy fairways and tall firs that border its edges.

The nice feature of the course is that it allows for long wide open drives while having it balanced by some very short, technical holes. It really is a strange mix of one or the other, with not much in between. But it would be a place that I would take beginners, as there will be far less tree bangin'. The modest elevation changes affect nearly half the course.

The fact is, it's a fun diversion, and certainly worth the play, although it has some heavy hitters across the river (Pier Park, etc) that are going to give you more bang for your buck.

The park is well maintained and the course is ship-shape with nice tee pads and signs.

My favorite holes would be the short ones (2, 4, 8, 9, 11). Hole 2 is unique in that it's a very short downhill "putt", but they have marked the green with logs- According the a local, anything outside the logs in a tournament is considered OB.

Cons:

Half the holes are field shots that are basically wide open with limited obstacles (mostly consisting of forest bordering the fairways). The exception is hole 1, which is nice hole guarded by a large tree and steep slope on the green. Otherwise these open holes are rather ho-hum.

Other Thoughts:

I've gotta admit, there were some people there that creeped me out - sketchy people who wandering the fringes of the course and hanging out at the shelter. But not everyone was sketchy, there were dog walkers and a nice guy selling discs in the parking lot.

Pros:

- Course is set in a pretty big city park, which is definitely multi-use. Walking paths, playgrounds, benches, etc. etc. Definitely a chance for interference on a nice day.
- Good amount of wooded areas here to define some holes, along with larger trees. #2 is a short downhill shot over some rough, #4 is a hyzer into some dense woods, #5 plays around the woods on the right, and #11 is an uphill shot through a smaller gap in the forest. Holes with trees include #1, which has a large tree to the right of the basket. #7 and #8 play around and through a section of trees, respectively, and #9 is an anny shot with forest on the right. Definitely some line shaping going on here.
- Elevation changes are present here as well to liven things up. Downhill slopes include a drop shot on #2, an elevated teepad on #4 into the woods, and a gentle sloping fairway on #6 and #8. #11 is a short but steep uphill shot, and #5 is slightly uphill. A good mix of up and down overall.
- Some very hazardous areas here to punish errant shots. A small creek is present behind #2, to the right of #5 and #10, and to the left of #9. While it is not very close to the fairway, it is definitely possible to reach. The woods to the left of #12 have a nasty slope, and the rough to the right of #6 is quite thick.
- A few mandos present, mostly for safety concerns, that force some different lines. #4 is a mando RHBH hyzer, #5 a RHBH anny, and #8 another RHBH anny. Takes away some of the easier routes.
- Good pads and baskets, signage is good though #10's was missing as of 09/12. Navigation can be very tricky, like going back up to #6 after #5. Map helps out a ton.

Cons:

- Layout is pretty crammed in some spots, not only with the other park activities but with the golf as well. Walking back up to #6 involves practically walking in front of #2's teepad. Also, #1 and #12 share a small bit of land for the fairway. A good idea to keep your eyes peeled.
- Course is on the short side, with an average hole length of 256' from the longs. Four of the holes are under 210', so there are some approach shots for sure.
- A few holes are mostly open, with only a tree or some rough to worry about. #1, #5, #6, and #12 don't require much thought.

Other Thoughts:

- All in all, a pretty fun course that offers a lot of variety. Some open shots, some wooded shots, punishing rough in a few places, with a good mix of left, right, and straight lines. Elevation changes to boot. A couple holes to throw a driver for most players as well. Might be a little too challenging for true beginners, and maybe a little too straightforward for more advanced players.

Pros:

The use of the small park near I5 is done well, just one or two things that I personally just didn't get. Great signage! Which is a must in my book! Holes 2, 4, 8, 10, and 11(or are they now 9 & 10) Seems to be the perfect place to hold an Ace Race.

Cons:

Holes 1, 3, 5, 6, and 12. Wish they weren't just sitting out in the open without some type of challenge. Hole 9 is gone! Hopefully there are plans to find a new home for 9 and make it a 12 hole course again. A picnic table on the right side of 3 which was in my sons line and the people wouldn't even watch out for themselves so he had to go way out of his way. I understand it is a park for everyone but hated to be ignored like we didn't belong there.

Other Thoughts:

I understand the limited land issue but wish the lay out would have limited the long walks between 5-6 and 10-11. And also the walk takes you thru the other playing areas. So be watchful.

Pros:

Great variety in elevation.
Sweet Chainstar baskets.
Variety of distance, 155-414 feet currently.
Variety of shot making, forcing shots left and right.
Good safe and challenging use of mandos.
Some alternate tees add challenge for more experienced players.
Scenic place, really a beautiful park all-around.
Tee signs on holes and a great info kiosk on the first tee with event fliers and course info.
Great for skill levels raging from first timers to upper level amateur players.
1 minute from I-5 exit and located great for inner-Vancouver and inner-Portland residents.

Cons:

Current tees are in bad shape, even a flat gravel pad would be an improvement.
Fairly long walkouts for the size of the course.
High pedestrian, picnicker traffic on the course.
Fairly short, won't provide much of a challenge to upper Am and Pro players.
As it stands, it's difficult to navigate, course maps or better next tee signs would help.

Other Thoughts:

Leverich, as it stands currently, is a tremendous example of a well thought out urban park, it fits in nicely with other park uses and this course is one of the nicest looking in-city courses I've ever seen. I saw numerous new players as well as some veterans looking for short game practice, it serves all parties well. Living in inner-Portland this is actually one of the closest courses after Pier Park. It's very evident that the group of people who made this new course care a lot about it and I believe Leverich will only improve with time, some tweaks could be made to make the course a little more challenging and when new tee pads are put in I fully look forward to coming back and editing this review and adding at least a half star to its score.
