This course is in a great wooded park not far south of the Canadian Border. There is a bit of a grassy area that has a practice basket and that the 1st hole plays along. From there you are headed into a mature forest with vine undergrowth and marshy spots.
Based on reviews here I was expecting a rougher course than I found, the Whatcom DGC has been putting in time polishing this diamond and it is really starting to show. The holes are well laid out for the most part, with only one or two as either tight together or oddly shaped, more on that later. Overall flow was good and pretty easy to follow for most part.
While there is alot of vine underbrush, it was kept short for the most part and I was never really worried about losing a disc in it. The deadfall has been pretty well cleaned up, what is left is for effect and avoidable when walking. They made good use of the elevation available and the water that plays into 3 or 4 holes on the back. There are some cool trees and old growth stumps that they made use of in pin placement to keep it interesting.
Signs are well made and indicate both pin positions but there are a few missing.
Finally, the tee pads. Again, someone in the Whatcom club has got making Paver pads dialed in and they are great and built to last. Very impressed.

While I like the course and there have been good improvements there are still some to be made. While most holes have a legit path to the pin, 18 only has a ridiculous keyhole with lots of small branches in any other lines. Would be nice to see the others cleared a little so there is a line to be had.
Next tee indicators are generally good but missing in a couple places and the walkout between 13 and 14 is tough to find, had to wander a bit and consult the map before finding it. Same finding 17.
11 is an odd hole with a sharp mando cut back that all you can do is throw to corner then back up for par. Put in to make it 18 total and not great.
I admire them using stumps and trees to make it tougher but without flags or something it makes them difficult to find. As someone new to the course I had to walk most of the way to the pin to find it before driving since holes are reachable without indication which position pins are in. 12 was particularly bad for this.
Because of the rain this can be a very swampy course on the back, especially on 12-16. Sure this is much better in the summer.

I was pleasantly surprised by this course and really enjoyed it. This really shows that time and work can do wonders. While there is still some ways to go I look forward to seeing how it goes. I bet by next year this is an easy 4.

- New baskets with an orange rim at top that makes them very easy to locate. Exceptionally smart thing to do in a heavily wooded course like this.

- Excellent signage, including at each tee and at the front of the course (use the parking lot at the north side of the course to start off of "D Street", not the south).

- Most of the baskets have "Next Tee" direction signs, and the course is on Udisc as well, we had no issues navigating.

- Well marked tee pads, but they also get a con for being a bit small and gravel which has been pounded out at front.

- Beautiful old growth forest.

- While there are walking trails in the area, they don't seem busy and course designers have done a good job of keeping them out of throwing lines.

- While more beaten down than when Valkyrie did his review, it's still very easy to lose discs. One of us often went ahead and spotted. Not among the worst courses we've played for losing discs, but probably in the top 25% of courses.

- Not a good course for people with mobility issues, lots of ankle rollers, some elevation change, slippery when wet dirt on hills etc.

- Some scratchy/prickly underbrush, be careful what you reach your hand into.

- Baskets were in long position and it is an extremely challenging course with the long pins. I don't think course toughness should be a pro or a con, but novice and rec players will find this course a bit frustrating in long position. Intermediate and even advanced players will really struggle to make birdies on the course, you need to be able to fire 300-400 foot lazer beam straight drives or sweeping hook shots on super tight lines. With pins in short position it would be much more reasonable, but in long position it is very challenging. My guess would be that it would take a 925 rated round or so to shoot par from the longs.

- Recommend to wear long pants for the course with all the thorny/stinging underbrush.

- Overall a surprisingly tough, well laid out, well signaged course for being in a bit of an out-of-the-way place, kudos to whoever put the work in for developing the course. We are glad we stopped to check it out.

Whatcom County needed another course installation that exceeded the beginner level fairways found at the Lynden, Ferndale, and Cornwall disc golf courses. This course is challenging but fair.

*All the baskets have Orange tops which really helps find them more easily.

*The front 9 is much easier than the back 9 as many of the "Snags", "Peewee Arms" or brush, twigs, branches have been trimmed back allowing for some fairness.

*Good balance of technical, distance, hairpin, and hyzer/anhyzer throws

*Back 9 is challenging. I believe hole #10 is a par 4 and has an unnecessary wall of trees that makes par nearly impossible if you don't bring your A game.

*Lots of brush and ferns. If you throw inaccurately, you'll end up spending a lot of time looking for your disc.

*If it is raining the slightest, your going to get wet as the inevitable disc hunt will bring you into the forest and you'll absorb a lot of water. I played with it barely sprinkled and left with soggy shoes and pants.

*It gets dark 1-2 hours before sunset as the course is heavily dense.

*A few shots go over the walking/hiking paths.

Again, this is a great, challenging and fair course. It's worth a trip to Blaine to play it. I wouldn't drive across the state to play this course, but if I'm looking for a challenge this is a good course.
