Pros:
A nice little 9-holer with various elements of challenge.
-Terrain: There's some stuff to work with here--some gullies, a few mounds and hills, patches of shrubbery, and various trees.
-Multi-Tees: Though nine holes, each basket has an alternate tee. I believe you can play (1)-(9) and then backtrack (9)-(1) from the other set of tees pretty smoothly.
-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: All par-3s, but the terrain and man-made features are used to good effect. A couple holes have some thick woods, and the rest, while open, force you to control the shot at least somewhat. Gullies, undergrowth, or baseball fields will punish poor choices and execution off the tee.
Cons:
Several detractors from the experience.
-Spiky Flowers: Coming from Georgia, our fairways are not covered with spiky yellow flowers. It was significantly uncomfortable to walk through and required extensive picking once I was done. The one time I ended in a gully with undergrowth it was exceedingly unpleasant.
-Navigation: Not any next tee cues. I got somewhat turned around but had a partner to straighten me out. I'm sure it would be no issue with UDisc. Also, hole (9) finishes a bit of a walk from the parking lot.
-Amenities: Tee pads are rubber, which is not very good. The tee signs aren't always enough to show you where to throw, either.
-Lack of Variety: All par-3s with no real distance or startling shaping required. A strong thrower could play with all putters.
-Safety: (1) plays close to a parking lot. (2)-(3) are near a ball field that could take errant shots, and (8)-(9) are near private subdivision property. I had to stop multiple times for people on the walking path.
Other Thoughts:
Livermore DGC is a Reasonable little course, and the town is better for its inclusion. As a rec-level player I enjoyed it, but better players are going to need to find somewhere else to get satisfaction.
