Fit for purpose (designer review)

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 15, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-It does exactly what was planned, which is provide an accessible way to play the sport for students and as a facility for classes run for the university
-There's some challenging shot shaping and gaps to hit for such a short course
-Really high quality equipment, tee signs are slick and clear and the baskets look fantastic and catch well
-Ace runs are fun
-It's designed with player growth in mind, several holes can be sneakily combined to offer a greatly increased challenge
-It can be played in 15 minutes, perfect study break material
-All the lines are clear and visibilty is great. As well as being so short this makes it a very safe layout to play alone

Cons:

-It's not a destination course. Campus security is restrictive about who can use the grounds and it's very small, definitely not something to go out of your way for
-It is really short and only 7 holes long. This should be expanded to 9 but some details weren't finalised at the time of installation
-Some of the dirt tees may get quite muddy over winter
-Some of the lines aren't properly cleared yet, though that will improve with play time
-I really wouldn't advise throwing drivers on this. It's tucked right into the heart of campus, and though its short and safe it only takes one silly decision to cause a problem

Other Thoughts:

Loughborough University is the world's leading institution for sport. The idea that olympians and international athletes might have a go on this is really cool to me, but beyond that I think it just is a great look for the sport. This is supporting a wider program of disc golf at the university and will hopefully become a breeding ground for reems of great new players.
