Fun But Different Beginner Course

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 1, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Good job on the home made baskets. I always applaud the effort even if they aren't as good as professionally manufactured baskets.
2023 update: older Innova baskets are used now instead of homemade baskets.
+The tee areas are marked by little placards in the ground. They have hole number, name, and distance.
+Lightly rolling hills make for some fun shots up and down these hills as well as some slightly fast greens.
+You will probably have this course all to yourself. Cherokee doesn't seem to have a large disc golf community.
+A good amount of woods to provide challenge without making it frustrating.
+It would be hard to lose a disc here. There were not many places were the grass was long.
+Ace runs, it might be hard to get them to stick if you hit the chains due to the baskets.

Cons:

-The baskets do let discs slip through. They are also single chained and not very deep.
2023 update: No more basket issues.
-It can be hard to find the placards and all of the holes might not have them. I played basket to basket when I couldn't find one.
2023 update: Fewer placards now are visible. They are small, white placards that are flush with the ground. They are always pretty close to the basket so you might as well play basket to basket.
-The holes are generally similar in distance and tree coverage. They did all look a little different and the rolling hills helped them to stay different enough.
-Tees are natural. They are not overused so they aren't horrible but concrete is always preferred.
2023 update: Tees are more bare then I remember. Must get more use now.
-2023 update: There is a newer course here that plays pretty close to this one.

Other Thoughts:

+This course was fun to play and it was in a nice setting. It would be hard to consider this course for a tournament or anything like that but it is a pleasant place to walk around and enjoy the outdoors. In other words, this is a good place for a casual course.
+This course had a little but of fun factor for me.
+This property has potential. If they got new baskets and tees and created a little more variety, this course could be quite good. I think there is enough land here.
2023 update: There is a second course and it is excellent.

A bit different... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful! Amazing environment near very old dorm style buildings. Great variety of shots and distances. Metal plate built into the ground with par, distance, and a nickname was unique. I hadn't seen this before.
One of the easier courses I've played. Par is generous.

Cons:

Holes #7, 8, and 9 did not have metal plates. Luckily the baskets weren't too far away. Hard to determine par for these considering par is generous on this course, which may be because the baskets seem to accommodate full size frisbees. Disc golf discs will slip through the holes in the baskets!
Though the course is beautiful, a few long open meadow shots would have been nice. Spread the course out!

Other Thoughts:

Read the course description for where to start at tee #1. It was tricky to find.
Have fun with this course!
