Beginners Only... Or Cheating for Aces

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 28, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

- decent tee signs
- basic course map at start
- bathrooms are garbage cans
- basic but serviceable baskets
- hole numbers on baskets
- park mown and maintained
- disc golf area is mostly isolated in multi-use park
- pitch and putt style is decent for working your short game, beginners, or chasing "cheap" aces

Cons:

- natural tees
- only 7 holes
- tee signs 2 and 4 missing
- very short with almost no obstacles and no elevation change
- hole 6 throws towards backyards, which is the main design/safety issue
- back and forth holes really have nothing interesting going on

Other Thoughts:

I can see the benefit of this course for beginners and those who haven't developed technique/distance yet. However, even the newest player will tire of it pretty quickly. There are dozens of these short open courses in the Chicago area and this one provides nothing unique.

The equipment is mostly serviceable and the park is well maintained, although a few tee signs were unfortunately missing. With how flat and open this is, there really isn't much challenge once you've gotten the basics of throwing down. I drove a good distance to play some nearby courses and this was conveniently nearby. I would not go out of my way for it at all. It would be nice to have this right in your neighborhood for quick practice but that's about it.

I'm not sure what else I can say - it's a nice enough park, and thankfully they separated the disc golf from most of the other features fairly well, so it doesn't have the safety hazards prevalent at many Chicago-area parks. However, with the routine back and forth short, open holes, there just isn't anything to get excited about. Hit it if you want to work your short game or you really love bagging. I mean, I guess I did, so I can't judge :)

A 7 holer just dying to be a 9 holer 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Short, wide open holes make for plenty of ace runs for experienced players and a simple practice course for beginners. Hole 7 is a close to 300' par 4. The signs they went with are unique looking and accurate. Almost no chance to lose plastic here.

Cons:

No tee pads present. Adding a few obstacles would mix up shot selection. Navigation is a little wonky at first, so "next tee" indicators would be helpful. Hole 4 is missing it's sign but it's still easy enough to figure out where the basket is. The course is set right next to a playground, pavilion and soccer field and was very busy while I was there; not necessarily a negative but be careful with errant shots.

Other Thoughts:

I feel that there is enough room to squeeze 2 more baskets in and make this a full 9 holer. Traffic and pedestrians are a concern on most shots, so I'm surprised they decided not to include the additional holes (heck, I'd even prefer if they shrank holes 1-5 down to 2 or 3 more interesting shots while still adding the other 2, bringing the total back to 7 better holes).

Overall, this is a well kept beginner's course. Experienced players will find almost no challenge here. I had fun trying out some new discs and coming close to getting some aces.

Ace Run X7 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 25, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

**You've been playing too long if you don't like seeing your disc have a chance at banging the chains from the tee on an "Ace Run" ! ! !
**GREAT beginner course...
**GREAT place to practice short drives and upshots
**You can pretty much "Ace Run" at every basket.
**7 Brand-New Shiny DGA Mach 3 baskets
**Beautiful Playground, Park and Neighborhood
**Natural, Grass Tees. Not enough play to beat the grass down.
**THANKS :) to whoever took the time to approach the Park District to install a course in order to introduce Disc Golf to this community...

Other Thoughts:

**Fitness stations all around the concrete walking path.
**The community has put quite a bit of money into making this a fun, fitness oriented Park
