Good campus course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 17, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Seven short wooded holes and an open 300' finisher, with one bad hole stuck in (see "Cons"). Some of the short holes have a little bit of elevation change to consider, almost all of them require careful threading through a forest of skinny pines

+ New DisCatchers are in great condition; the signage is very good (though some have already been vandalized).

Cons:

- #8 is the single bad hole: 355' uphill through thick woods obscuring the basket with no obvious throwing line. The hole requires you to throw out past the edge of the woods, and then hook almost a U turn left to find the basket. It's a bit of a nightmare on the first play through because you can't see the basket, you can't see the path to the basket, and errant throws end up jailed in deep woods. The expected route seems to be to reach a high window out of the woods 300' - 325' from the tee, with a stall fade dropping near the basket. But there's no clear landing area for anything short of that perfect shot, so you're probably going to end up in jail

- Tees are visible, but they are turf mats placed on the ground. They'll become uneven and beat in over time, but most holes are short, and they can be played from a standstill

Other Thoughts:

~ A short nine holer on a college campus can be a wonderful thing. It can give you 30 - 45 minutes of intense concentration, distraction, and a getaway from your day. The 2000' layout at Misericordia is the perfect specimen of a campus course. It's tucked in the back corner of campus behind the athletic fields and a cemetary, so you have a nice walk "away from everything" and into the woods. You can play the course with just a mid and a putter, and feel great making the gaps for ace runs and birdie opportunities. And you can be back in the dorm inside an hour.

RECOMMENDED COMBINATIONS:

There's not enough challenge to attract many people who aren't already on campus, or baggers like me doing a sweep of the area courses. Moon Lake Park should be avoided by anyone but hardcore baggers; Nesbitt Park is a pleasant but forgettable wide open nine beside the Susquenhanna River. The nearest "big" (and good) course is American Legion Post 781, which is worth playing a few times - so it's easy to make a day of varied course experiences

Charming local course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful area; good use of terrain to force you to shape shots differently; isolated.

Cons:

Nothing amazing, and pretty out of the way. The second hole guarantees that if you get a bad clip, even shooting low, you'll never find your disc. The nature of fronds.

Other Thoughts:

Worth it if you're in the area.

Pros:

Fun 9 hole course with a good variety of shots that will challenge players of any skill level.

Cons:

Still raw and hard to follow and easy to lose a disc but will get better as tees, signage etc are installed and the course gets some play

Other Thoughts:

The ball field in the directions is NOT the one where you turn in off Lake Rd

Work in progress 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 30, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course located in an area without any other playable courses in the immediate locality.
Holes are relatively near each other situated along what I believe is a nature trail.
Ample parking
Beautiful scenery
No trash

Cons:

This is a brand new course and with that being said I cant knock it for the lack of tee-pads, signage, map, and directions to next hole. The teepads are marked and leveled, so I imagine concrete or paver teepads will be along in the future.
Fairways are somewhat narrow and undefined, however with more people coming to play they will beat in and open up.

Other Thoughts:

As a brand new course I can certainly see where the designers are going with it and with a bit more work and polishing this will be a fantastic addition to the area courses. I look forward to playing it again in the future and will update my score once the course is 100% complete.
