Enjoyable San Diego Course But A Little Pricey! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 11, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Mission Bay is a nice parks and recreation golf course. They've added disc golf and footi golf to help with revenues. Playing on a early Friday morning, I was the only disc golfer around. The golfers were all cordial and many were impressed with my drives and rollers. Imagine what they would think about a 1000 rated player!

The course is mostly flat with just a few small hills, some scattered trees off the fairways, non-existent rough and just one non-hazardous water hazard. The Discatchers are thoughtfully stationed all around greens but are sometimes a little confusing to spot off the tee. I threw towards the wrong basket once or twice. There's usually a tree or two or three guarding the basket but like most most disc courses on golf courses Mission Bay is mostly open. You won't need to use many different shots although it was fun to roll on the short, nicely mowed grass. The course is probably about average distance with three holes under 300' and four longer holes with # 18 stretching out to 912' .

Signature hole! None stood out as really memorable but I don't remember any hole feeling like a filler hole, either. Nice design!

Cons:

I'm a little concerned with the cost. $10 for nine holes or $18 for 18 holes is steep and $10.50 for each person in the cart. I think I read on their website that it was $10 just for someone to ride along and watch! This all smells of price gouging to me. What no $25 bag fee or $30 to pick which seat in the cart you want? And not even a chintzy little bag of pretzels!

Golf course open! Not much shot shaping needed here. Mostly a point and shoot course.

Other Thoughts:

Mission Bay doesn't feature the tropical beauty that Colina Park has but it's certainly lovely and very well maintained. It's a pleasant option compared to many of our more unkept disc courses. Those of you with the 450' drives will enjoy the four monster holes. And a rec player such as myself, will not feel overwhelmed here.

There is a league that plays here on Sundays as well as the annual Ice Bowl Tournament.

With my normal prejudices against disc golf courses on golf courses, I came here fully expecting to not enjoy myself but walked away pleasantly surprised. This combined with Morley Field and Colina Park gives you San Diego players some excellent options.
