Well done 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 1, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well kept,
Well laid out, good flow.
Two separate 9-hole loops give some flexibility for time commitment.
A lot of stock shots that need good execution; a few risk/reward opportunities.
Par is kinda soft for upper level players.

Cons:

I could see erosion being a problem if this course was any more heavily trafficked.
Par is kinda soft for upper level players.

Other Thoughts:

Great course. Everyone can see the shots that should be made, but not everyone can hit the lines reliably. A really good player would probably shred this layout. Par is set soft enough that a middling am doesn't walk off the track feeling abused, but most of the par 4s would be cupcakes for elite competition. Can see this course getting stretched out in the future.

This course isn't super heavily used (comparing to the better courses in DFW), which is good -- there are several holes on this course that are so enticing that you just want to empty your bag on them.

All in all, a super fair course. I wish it was about an hour closer to me. I plan on an extra half day to play this gem anytime I am headed this direction.

Wow, just wow 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course map at the parking lot
Cement tee pads on every hole
Tee signs on every hole with map and distance
A very wide variety of shots needed on this course

Cons:

(this is being picky)

Tee boxes need to be longer
Some longish walks between holes
A few holes don't have defined fairways.

Other Thoughts:

I had not read any of the reviews of this course before I drove up from Carrollton today. I had heard this was a good course and I was not disappointed. Several 2 shot holes for this old man. Up and down the hills (my back is killing me right now)

Very well designed course in my opinion. There is always room for improvement, but the course did flow well and most of the holes had defined fairways.

Oh, the cool 1900 Victorian estate next to hole 1 is for sell, only $700K.

What Every Public Course Should Be! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 5, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Clean/Well maintained Park. Nice scenic views and terrain w a cool estate nearby is nice eye candy on early holes.
+Concrete tee boxes and hole information top notch.
+Course layout is really good. Flows well.
+Fun elevation, obstacles, and lines to throw throughout entire course.
+Challenges you to be versatile player. Power, skill, accuracy, and creativity are put to the test.
+I really enjoyed the verticality and versatility of this course
+ # 3 with it downhill, #5 & #7 with it's OB line and up/down, #8 with the stone hill, #12 with the stone hill/obstacles/road view, were the most memorable.

Cons:

-Main information board is very helpful, but with my memory I couldn't remember where the tee boxes for #10 & #11 were. They are a little out of way compared to others. I pulled up the map from the phone and the hole #'s are illegible. I eventually figured it out, but would have been nice to see it on the phone. Note:The tee box info may have said the direction of the next tee box, but i didn't notice.
-Scorecard holder was gone.

Other Thoughts:

+By far one of the top courses I've played. Just not a whole lot of negatives to say about it. Great course and highly recommend a drive up.
+Met a friendly local/regular as I was finishing. Said most people play after 9 am.

Pros:

What an awesome course! The elevation here is like nothing else I've encountered in the DFW. Be prepared for a workout! A great mix of shot variety, you will need every shot in your bag to score well. Not only do you need to throw long, but you must hit your line. The basket locations are expertly set to really make you think about shot placement, and give a great risk/reward factor. The park is set on beautifully maintained land. Large trees provide ample shade and the healthy grass throughout the park makes for a nice fresh feel. Concrete tee boxes and high quality signs are present on every hole, they look brand new. The Innova disc catchers are in great shape and catch very well. I just love seeing the bright yellow bands from the tee box. There is also a nice course map sign in the parking lot, and you can grab a scorecard out of the little box attatched. I'd imagine this course never gets really busy due to it's location, so you shouldn't have any problems with it being crowded. I think I saw 2 other groups there during my 2 1/2 hour round. The locals I ran into were extremely friendly, and made me feel very welcome. I really enjoyed my visit to Munson Park. The fun factor here is off the charts, and it is WELL worth the drive from the metroplex.

Cons:

Lack of nearby trash cans. There are pavilions and picnic tables scattered throughout the park that have trash cans but when I needed a trash can there wasn't one nearby. Not a huge deal though. I would have also liked to see a little more water hazard. I remember seeing one small creek/drainage ditch one hole 11, but it was mostly dry. Also I wasn't really paying attention but I did not notice any available restrooms in the park, I could be wrong here. Plenty of places to sneak off into the woods though (sorry ladies I know this isn't always your thing).

Other Thoughts:

Wear good shoes with ankle support. The terrain is very hilly and it could be very easy to roll an ankle. Bring lots of water in the summer, this course is very long and physically taxing. Not a good course to bring small children and/or strollers along. I learned this the hard way. There are several playgrounds in the park though, so if the little ones do need to come they will have something to keep themselves occupied if trekking the hilly course isn't their thing.

NICE 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 31, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

What an awesome course. The elevation is great, the layout is sweet, and everything else is excellent! The brand new discatchers are a nice sight to see when you pull up and the yellow band helps out on a couple holes. This course doesnt favor a single player, except the consistant one. You must be able to throw far, tight, and everything in between. It is very well taken care of and the are trashcans spread throughout the course as well. Nice tees help the navigation and help you find where the baskets are. Natural pads, which I like for the most part although some are not level and there are rocks/roots right in the way. The sandy soil will be good during a rain and the course looks like it would be very playable after a downpour. There are alot of "tweener" holes out here but if you can manage to stay in the 50's youll be just fine. The shade is nice to have as well for those hot days. The greens are some of the best around. Every time you think its just an easy layup, you better take a second and think about it, one bad break and you will be sad.

Cons:

Some of the tees are no bueno with rocks and roots. Not for the faint of heart, this course is long and with the elevation can make for a long day for those who can average 400' all day. Some of the tees play a little close some of the other fairways but not too bad.

Other Thoughts:

Man this is a great course and the back 9 completing the full 18 rank it one of the highest rated and would really be worth many trips from DFW.
