Home of the Fighting Muskies!

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 17, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Muskigum University DGC is one of the older college courses in Ohio that has stood the test of time, despite undergoing some changes since it's creation in 2006. It provides a nice place for students and locals to play a casual round right in the heart of campus.

+ There is a nice variety in distance here, with holes ranging from 177 ft to 465 ft. While most of the course is in a similar park-like setting, there is enough elevation to keep things interesting.

+ #6 is my favorite hole on the course. It's a 300' downhill shot from one of the highest points on campus. An accurate shot is required to avoid putting your disc in the trees on the right, or the ditch behind the basket.

+ Each hole is equipped with a large concrete tee pad. Most holes have tee signs built in to one of the corners. Each sign has a map of the hole, and different parts for both beginners and "advanced" level players.

+ Similar to a lot of college courses that I've played, the grounds are kept up very well. The grass was freshly mowed when I played.

Cons:

- Being 15 years old, the course is showing a little bit of wear. Some of the baskets are rusted and not in pristine shape. A couple of holes are missing tee signs.

- The flow of the course can get a little confusing once you cross the road to play #4 through #8. Use UDisc for this stretch because the course map here on DGCR is going to be inaccurate.

- Hole #1 can be a little tricky to find. It's not really close to any of the parking areas. The parking lot that I used was next to the stadium, and there was only a single spot left.

- There are a few poor drainage areas that had standing water that appeared to be there for a long time. The basket on #7 was pretty much surrounded by it.
- Max rating for a 9-hole course is a 4.

Other Thoughts:

I actually enjoyed Muskingum's disc golf course more than I expected. It's pretty basic, but mixing in a few par 4's and elevation makes it a fresh experience.

A good college course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 1, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-If you have a map, and you figure out where to start, this is pretty easy to navigate. DEFINITELY want a map though.
-Good variety of shots, and good use of elevation. Holes 3 and 9 are pretty fun.
-Holes 4-8 are pretty out of the way. In most scenarios you won't have to worry about hitting any students or cars.
-Not quite sure where you're supposed to park, but I did not have any issues with security.
-Bathrooms are all over campus in all the buildings.
-Forearm and backhand lanes are open in most shots. Rollers can work as well.
-Nice, well kept campus. Outside of the pond next to hole 9, you shouldn't be able to lose a disc. The pond is about 50 feet to your left, and the hole is to the right. So, only a bad chuck should make it's way there.
It's a college campus so drivers are used to looking out for people on the roads. If you throw a disc there, they seem to be pretty chill about waiting for you to get it.

Cons:

-As of April 2017, they've changed the course from the course map. I don't know when they made the switch. Hole 5 looks to be where hole six used to be. Using the map, I used hole 6's tee to shoot to 5, then just picked a spot to throw to 6. This doesn't really mess up the flow of the course, but it's confusing. Based off the map, hole 5 used to be close to a building, which is probably why they moved it. Now hole 5 and 6 are almost the exact same shot.
-Holes 1, 3 and 9 are pretty close to sidewalks and roads. During a class change hole 1 could be unplayable.
-Some holes don't have tee pads anymore, or if they do they're hard to find. Still the footing is good. For instance hole 2 has hay/straw laid out for you to tee from.

Other Thoughts:

Not very far off the interstate if you're looking for something to play while you travel. If you're an advanced player you can probably do this in 20-30 minutes.

Hole 9 looks like it used to offer a hyzer route, but with tree growth it's not really there. Very confident backhanders could probably still find a way through, but as a predominant forehander I barely even looked. Now you have a very straight shot up the middle to get to the pin. It's the hardest/tightest throw on the course.

It's a folf course... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 9, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a disc golf course... nothing super special about it. It offers a decent variety of tree, open, short, and long holes.

Cons:

I never did find Hole #5. Well... I found the hole, but it wasn't anywhere near where it was on the map. I made up a tee box (since that wasn't there either).

Other Thoughts:

This is a pretty quick course - played through twice in about 80 minutes. Once I knew where the holes/tees were it made the second playthrough much more enjoyable.

nice campus course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a nice 9 hole course. The tees are some of the biggest I've seen. Nice new baskets with the numbers on them, which helps for the first time here. The grass was mowed and the elevation adds a little to the course layout.

Cons:

There are no signs to help locat the tees and right baskets. There is a new bilding being built where holes #5 and #6 were. Basket #5 is not far from basket #4. I did not know were they have been play hole #5 or #6 from, no marked tees.

Other Thoughts:

This course was a little hard to find the right baskets with the new building on Holes #5 and #6. The map at http://www.muskingum.edu/home...olflayout.pdfhelped a lot to find the other right tees/baskets.

College Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

The holes are nice and they are longer than most college campus coureses, making it worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood, or live near by. Not to many courese in this part of the state.

Cons:

No signs, No Maps, No hole markers on tees or pins. You kind of have to guess where to start and where to throw. Maps are in school buildings but if you get there during the summer like myself, you cannot obtain one of these thus finding hole 1 is quite difficult.

Other Thoughts:

Nice use of elevation and trees. Once you figure out the course it is relatively good and fun to play. However, it is hard to find if you are just visiting to play.
