Pros:

The first pro is a few of the cons listed on previous reviews were not there when I visited. Hole 1 was not across the water (though that looked like it would've been a very fun hole!

But there are many more pros to this once great course. There's a mix of long and short holes (depending on where the tee's actually are), and space for plenty of flexibility. The course plays around the main office and the levee. There are some open holes, some woods holes, some outside-into-woods, and vice versa. A lot of variety, a lot of excellente design, and a lot of maturity you'd expect on a greater course found in these 9 holes.

The baskets were still in great condition, as long as there wasn't a tree growing through it! The tee's.. shouldn't be discussed in pros.

Navigation was do-able with the map, but it was like trekking through the jungle looking for ancient Mayan temples.

Hole length was a little on the longer side (especially for a 9 hole course) but there was always ample space to let one rip when you needed to. I mean, i just honestly really enjoyed many aspects of this course.

Cons:

I don't like giving a course rating based on course conditions, but these course conditions are not going to change soon and without a LOT of work. The course was overgrown with 7ft tall trees through one basket, fairways clogged with fallen trees that have even started regrowing. It looks like this place hasn't seen any love in decades, other than mowing in the fields and part of the levee.

There was some tall grass in places, but it wasn't so bad you couldn't walk through, and we found the remnants of most of the tees. As stated previously- every basket was where it was supposed to be and still upright.

Other Thoughts:

This course took a while to play because there was so much searching that had to be done. It really wasn't too bad with the map, but be prepared to do some fun bushwhacking in a few spots.

Seeing some of the holes still in decent condition was great, but you could really get a feel of great majesty seeing overgrown holes for what they used to be. It was like rediscovering something lost so long ago it doesn't live in memory, only in the past. It really was like I imagine finding an ancient ruin, still intact, but abandoned and forgotten so long ago.

Back in it's restored condition, easily a 3.5 rating. It might even push 4 with some polish. Consider that if you're up for the adventure, because you can still play that course if you're not afraid of getting a little Indiana Jones on the place
