Pros:
• Nice park with mature trees.
• I loved #8. I played it twice and wished I had time to play it a few more times. You have to tee over a pond onto a small peninsula on the other side. The basket is tucked into the trees on the back side of the peninsula.
• Good use of the park's natural features to create some challenging obstacles.
• I also like #4. It's a 460' Par 4 that has a small OB canal running parallel to the fairway on the left.
• Hole lengths range from 205' to 460'
Cons:
• Holes 1 and 2 play close to a playground.
• Only slight elevation change.
• No "Next Tee" signs.
• Short tee pads, especially #8. There is a tree directly behind tee 8 that won't allow a run-up. It's not a long drive, but I still teed from the side so I could have some more room.
• By FAR the biggest "Cons" are the multiple crossing fairways. 2 and 3 cross and 6, 7, and 9 cross (see map). I've never seen 3 fairways that cross like 6, 7, and 9 do. It's a good thing nobody else was playing the day I went or someone would have been waiting. I don't see how you could ever play a tournament here. A busy Saturday or Holiday could get ugly.
Other Thoughts:
I was in town for a conference and had to squeeze in a round on my lunch break. I wish I would have had time for 2-3 rounds. There is a pretty good variety of holes for a small city park. If this course was in my neighborhood, I'd be pretty happy.
The local club should really consider a redesign of holes 1, 2, 6, 7, and 9. The crossover is a real hazard. I think a more traditional "zigzag" or "down and back' layout could be done here. If I'm ever in Rexburg again, I'll play another round.
