Better Than Expected!

Pros:

Property features and available space used:

There is a pond in this park that is used several times as water holes. Hole 2 has a tee pad in the middle of the pond, kind of a little peninsula that is used to throw back over the pond and up a slight hill toward the basket. Hole 6 (old hole 8, we'll get to that later) is a mild tunnel shot to a RHBH hyzer finish that throws directly over the pond. Hole 7 plays over a part of the pond and is a technical throw albeit short to a basket guarded by a tree. All of these water holes have a carry that is reachable for just about anyone but still present the mental anxiety that presents itself with the prospect of a lost disc or a wade through the pond. Hole 8 is another favorite of mine, though not super challenging is a very fun downhill throw with an easy RHBH hyzer finish. Holes 3 and 4 employ tight lines, the former playing through a straight line of trees and the latter to a RHBH anhyzer line.

Variety and shots needed to score well:

Most courses favor the RHBH player and this course is slightly skewed in that direction as well but you will need to learn another line in order to get the birdies out here. Holes 2,3,4, and 5 all challenge you to throw straight/land straight or anhyzer a RHBH. Hole 9 is a classic roller hole IMO, with short, mowed grass and a long way to get to the par 4. I really like how punishing some of the bushes are here to errant throws and if you're offline you are looking at RHFH rollers and tomahawks to get out safely.

Navigation/teepads/baskets/signs/etc:

Navigation is a little funky since the maps here are off (more on that below) but the only real weird tee pad to find is hole 2. After putting head to your left down the path in the trees and take a right - you will see a bench and a tee pad facing back towards hole 1 and across the water, the rest of the course is fairly easy if you've played a few courses in your life. Did not have any problems with baskets, seemed in good shape for a 10+ year old course, tee pads much the same. Signs gave adequate information (par, distance, etc.) to at least get you started.

Cons:

I think if this were a 7 hole course it would be even better, let me explain. Hole 9 is an abomination of a hole. Its fairway plays over several other fairways, tee pads, and baskets. It's a long par 4 with very little redeeming qualities and could have been left out and made the course better. Hole 3 is kind of cool, very straight line of trees guarding the otherwise open basket but if hole 4 was eliminated could make one hole that is very good instead of two decent holes. These two changes would have made the course more challenging and safer, probably would have gave it a 3.5 if I'm honest.

Playing next to the water treatment plant isn't the most appealing thing and it smells through most of the course. Not really anything you could do design wise to fix this, just where the park is located - it is what it is.

Other Thoughts:

It seems as if this course has been redesigned multiple times as the map and pictures aren't even close anymore. Old hole 5 is now hole 1. Old hole 8 is now hole 6, not sure if any other holes are the same as they used to be. Judging by the reviews before me I'd say we played completely different courses. This was a pleasant surprise of a course and I would recommend it to just about anyone if you're around. let's put it this way, if I lived in Rexburg and wanted to take a buddy to a course who was visiting, I'd go here.

Pros:

NEW Baskets, Tee Pads, Course Design.
- Concrete Pads
- DISCatcher brand new baskets
- Variety of hole length, even an over the water hole
- Better use of the space that the full Nature Park had to offer
- Numbers on the tee pads. This is a major step up from the confusion the course previously possessed.

Cons:

- Amount of walking distance for a short 9 hole course. There are 2 parts of Nature Park involved at this course, but in dividing the park, they put 4 holes in one part, and 5 in the other, with a little bit of a walk between them, but nothing that can't be handled, this is disc golf.
- Concrete pads, though helpful, are quite short, and the pad size varies from hole to hole.

Other Thoughts:

This course was in dire need of something to spruce it up. As the renovation started, they had originally used the old single chain baskets. Recently they just installed baskets that wont spit out your disc every time! All in all, when first seeing the changes they were making to the course, I was a little worried that it wouldn't turn out well. But upon seeing the complete renovation, I think that they did a good job. The only regret is that they didn't try to make the course a few more holes long. They could have easily put in a 12 hole course to use some more of the space available.
