Could Be So Much More 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 30, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nine nearly-new Innova Discatcher baskets which wind around the vast property of New Egypt High School. Expansive landscape is ideal for practicing all types of shots out in the open. Good distance holes. Surrounding woods could be incorporated into the layout if desired. With proper attention, the course has many possibilities for both kids learning the game and public players.

Cons:

No signage whatsoever. No tee pads. No directional markers. Baskets are not numbered. As currently constructed, it is just 9 baskets spread around athletic fields- two of which sit well below regulation height, while another at the far end of a soccer field is completely out of the ground. Despite nice wooded property, the course is completely out in the open with no existing obstacles. Probably tough to maintain proper supervision for high school P.E. classes, as the course is spread out considerably. Beware of soccer/baseball spectators and other pedestrians getting in the line of fire.

Other Thoughts:

Memo to anyone planning on putting in a recreational disc golf course: Do it right and include "the little things" necessary for a positive playing experience. Have a basic design, number the holes, provide a tee off area and allow for easy navigation. Also plan on periodic maintenance. Unfortunately, and despite a great piece of property and tremendous potential, New Egypt is merely the latest 9 hole disappointment in New Jersey. Kudos to those who got a course at the high school, but shame on those who really didn't think it through. Work needs to be done here. And good tee signs and navigational markers would be a start.
