Easy Access in the City 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 3, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Located right off I-290
Right in the city of Worcester
Mostly wooded

Cons:

2 sets of baskets on most holes confusing
Too many uphill shots (hate them)
Some tee pads too short

Other Thoughts:

It's a plus to have a course in the middle of a city, conveniently located right off I-290. The course is mostly wooded with a few open shots. It's not called Newton Hill for nothing. You're basically going up and down the hill on several shots. I'm not a fan of uphill shots so there were several holes I didn't enjoy. But what goes up must come down, and there were several downhill shots. There are 2 sets of baskets on most holes, which aren't reflected on the tee signs. Also, many of the tee pads were either uneven or had mats missing. It made the run-up a little tricky on some holes.

Good City Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 15, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well designed for the amount of land given for the course. Plenty of up hill and down hill shots. Free to play.

Cons:

lots of glass on most of the course. and its a public park, not really a busy public park, but from time to time people are walking, running, biking, ect....a public high school shares the property.

Fun but watch the hills 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 27, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Its free, there is plenty of parking and a few practice baskets. There are a few tree enough to make it interesting but not so many as to make it frustrating and the elevation changes make for some fun drives.

Cons:

Hills, the are a few holes where the basket is on the side of a hill and if you miss the putt you better be chasing the disc because it will be in the next area code before you know it.

Other Thoughts:

My roommate has lost 3 discs on this course so keep an eye on your plastic!

Course made for experienced recreational players 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 5, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice tee signs and arrows to the next basket on many holes.
Clear tee pads

Nice use of elevation and natural features, like the boulders on hole 4.

Some risk vs. reward shots, like hole 10's risky down hill putt.

Few blind holes, and good signage on those that are blind.

Cons:

The entire fairway for hole 1 was covered in broken glass. The broken glass was a safety issue. It was shattered all over the walkways and can rip your bag or cut you if you fall on the uneven terrain.

Parking Issues, we simply could not find it. To get to the parking lot you have to drive past a few NO TRESSPASSING signs.

Tee pads were often very small (6x4)

Sketchy area, lots of non disc golfers wandering the disc golf park with no disc, park has a reputation with the locals as a shady hangout.

No amenities besides over flowing garbage cans.

Other Thoughts:

This may have been a Jason Southwick course at one point, but it is falling into disarray quickly.
Broken Glass and garbage all over make it hard to imagine a quality tournament here.

This is a good course for a recreational or experienced player. The wooded fairways and elevation may be too difficult for a new player while still lacking challenge for advanced players.

SPECIAL NOTE: Avoid the course August 9th - August 30th on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 due to the Newton 5K races in the park.

Beware the rent-a-cop! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 5, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Love the fact that they are working on constantly improving this course. I go there and play at lunch, as it's close to where I work. Great elevation changes and a fun course to play!

Cons:

Poor signage, it's easy to get turned around... I attempted to play this course at lunch time this week, and got chased off by a rent-a-cop who said that I couldn't park in the school parking lot until after 2:30? It was disappointing to say the least!

Other Thoughts:

Love the constant improvements that they are doing in this course.

Tons of potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 6, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

BIG trees on a BIG hill with lots of elevation. Beautiful fairways, very aesthetically pleasing to play. Challenging for ams and will test your arm on lots of uphill shots along with accuracy to stay in the fairway. Enough long-ish holes to make you put some juice behind your throws esp cause many are uphill. The downhills are super sweet!

Cons:

Still no signage but markers in ground by basket point you in the right direction. Pretty open, which maybe isn't a con, but it's not tight and technical with a few exceptions. That said, it's not "wide" open, so you can still hit plenty of trees.

Other Thoughts:

Once the signs go in and the teepads are cleaned up (it was super wet when I was there after recent flooding rains) I would rate this course much higher. It was a surprise to play Maple Hill and then hit this on the way home and say to myself, wow, that was really fun. I really did find it beautiful, the big trees really make a difference for me.

Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 28, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun course with a few difficult holes.
Minimal change to lose discs.
Good for newbies.
If you can hit the fairways, you'll do well. Very wooded course.

Cons:

No signs. No garbage cans, but course was fairly clean.
Be sure to watch your step as there as many tiny tree stumps.
The hills may be dangerous for those who are not nimble.

Other Thoughts:

I was visiting from out of town and a friend and I played the course with a local gentleman who helped design and create the course. He has several ideas for improving the course. Since the course is pretty new it appears there are those who are willing to see the development of the course continue which is great to see. A few other locals were very helpful in leading us through the course.
Found a voodoo doll on the course - uh oh.

Newton Hill 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 11, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice course has arrows on almost every basket pointing to the next tee. nicely designed shot path.

Cons:

it would be nice to have a sign or something giving basket facts(location, etc.) a little tough to play being steep hills covered in leaves, i did a lot of falling down hills that day. on a couple of the baskets you might wanna be a little careful due to park ave. its pretty close to the street.

Other Thoughts:

very decent course look forward to playing it again.
- for future reference make sure you wear a good pair of shoes for the hills
