The cleanest course by far. The maintenance crew seemed to be ever present. I believe I met Mike and Tom? He was actually filling cracks in the benches with wood filler. I am a beginner and this course allows me to make some pars but challenges me to improve. Honestly I'm impressed that Richmond County has a course. Alternate pin placements.

Like a lot of courses, it's incorporated with other activities and programs in the same venue. Some parents allow their children to run around with total disregard to the disc golfers.

This course has a lot potential and I truly believe if parks and recreation were afforded more money in the budget his course could be the best in Augusta.

Compared to Riverview,Patriots and Lake Olmstead,Pendleton King Park is the cleanest and easiest course.It is a beginner friendly course

Nice tee pads, clean. Tee signs with distance at every hole. Custom benches at every hole. Trash receptacles at every hole. Direction signs from hole to hole. Clean fairways and ruff. Public restrooms at 2 locations.

Hole 1 close to picnic area. Hole 2 is close to children's playground, caution with the drive. Several areas are close to pedestrian pathways. Examples are hole 4,5,18. This is a fair and objective rating.

This is the cleanest, friendliest course compared to New Jerseys South Vinland Park, Landis Park and Cape May County Park/Zoo.

- map not needed: next tee signs throughout literally "pointing" the way (Signs are white and usually aren't a problem to see as they are quite close to the pins. A different color might stand out a little better, neon orange?, but the white works better for the overall aesthetics of the park)

- DGA baskets are in good condition and top circle part is orange which makes them easier to find

- I liked the transition between Holes 8 and 9: sort of a secret garden kinda walk ... kinda sketchy at first, but cool thinking about it now.

- I liked the various bushes/planters in the fairway of Hole 18. Many people would list them as a con, but I cheated and threw a thumber over all of it, so it kinda felt like playing in some type of large public garden.

- Hole 5 tee area was pretty cool. Sorta built into the side of the slope going down to the water of the pond.

- repetitive: lots of straight or dogleg right shots ... I lost count of the times I RHFH'ed a Firebird off the tee

- some teepads are not level, specifically some of the more uphill holes ... makes any type of runup a stumbling mess of feet (Hole 8 stands out specifically)

- teesigns don't show shape of hole, just distance

- some safety concerns: playground to left of Hole 2 (I hit a tree and kicked left and end ended up in the play area, luckily no kids were present) ... several holes throw over walking paths or the road (road on 3, path on 5, path on 18 all come to mind), throwing over path/road isn't a huge con for me, BUT throwers must be very aware of any oncoming pedestrians/cars

- I can't speak for any changes that might have occurred during the redesign, but overall PKP is a solid, not spectacular, course IMO.

- Apparently Hole 4 used to play from a pad that made it a funky "over the fence" RHBH hyzer shot? The new pad plays straight in the 300'ish range ... like a lot of other holes on the course. The old teepad would be a shot that I didn't use all day and something to change up the repetitiveness.

- Hole 7 has a ridiculously sweet natural, cleared opening on the right side of the fairway ~250ish off the tee that drops down into a ravine and then back up a hill. With a little more clearing here and there, 7 could be a verrrry cool par 4 with a pin that flows nicely to Hole 8's tee area (although it would be another hole that the tee shot would be left-to-right). However as I am not local, I am not aware of any issues that might be present in the ravine, like flooding or stuff like that. The people who have installed all the benches have shown that they don't mind doing work to the course, so some stairs down and then back up on the other side shouldn't be that big a deal to install (other than possible county safety/insurance issues).

- Of the Augusta area courses, this is the best beginner friendly course (as well as Steady Ed from the reds).

- I have played the IDGC, Patriot's, Lake O, and Riverview (when not overgrown) in the Augusta area, and would recommend any of those courses over PKP for travelers from out of town. PKP is solid for locals and I'd probably venture out for doubles/singles/league rounds only if I lived in the area.

- Honestly the only reason I drove down from Athens with some buddies to play PKP, was due to the flurry of 5disc reviews that seemed out of place from what I had heard about the course. I went in with an open mind and tried to objectively rate it compared to all of the other 51 courses I have played during the past 4 years.

- Overall a solid course: the repetitiveness of distance and shape of holes did start to take it's toll. It felt like a 3.25. I can't justify a 3.5, so 3 it is.

PK is a very fair course in that you make a decent shot and you can par the hole but more importantly, if you risk a more difficult one you can be rewarded with birdie.
The course is clean and at any given time you will often see someone working on improving conditions.
The course is undergoing planned phases of improvement and it will only get better.
This is a course you can feel safe and welcome on. My experience also tells me you will meet people of all ages and can usually find a game.

The only downsides to this course are the shots I can't make.

I have played a number of courses around and like PK the best even though it is not the closest. I realize that par for me will always be a great score on this course but the total experience and the friendly people will bring me back.

It appears that there is a lot of pride taken in maintaining this course and the park itself.
There are trash cans all over the place, and you won't find trash on the ground.
There are new benches at each tee pad, with custom inserts that advertise sponsors.
Teepads are concrete and free from debris.
Length of course and layout provide the possibility of a very quick round- about an hour and ten minutes with no rushing.
Layout also never puts you too far from the parking lot (in case you left something in the car or need to leave mid round).
Old school course that is deceptively challenging, despite 14 holes under 300 feet.

Only a few holes allow you to open up off the tee. You will not be cranking 400' foot drives with your Force or Destroyer on this course.
Hole 2 has a fairway that runs parallel to a set of playgrounds on the left. As this is one of the few holes where you can/need to get some D off the tee, it presents a tough shot and a heaping helping of tension. Think of a tough water clearing shot, except if you mis-throw here you aren't just OB without a disc, you might injure a child. I have read somewhere that a net might be installed, although that is going to be a pretty long net.
I count 8 holes where you drive uphill. This is obviously a way to compensate for the lack of real distance, and I applaud the effort. The problem is that quite often you are throwing uphill while also needing to turn your shot right. In this regard it presents a similar shot a few too many times, hence the Con.
In many cases the tee pads slant upwards, as well.
There are now no holes on this course that I would consider "epic" or unforgettable (see Hole 4 description below).

In reference to my title, I figure there are around thirteen drives that will require you to shape a shot from left to right, to varying degrees. My initial thoughts on this course were that several of these holes were unfair in what they asked you to do to potentially achieve a birdie. I have sense softened that outlook, but only a little.
Hole 1: pretty average forehand shot, or take your chances through the trees straight at the basket
2: One of the few big drives, but alongside the playground. This hole requires a super straight 450 foot shot, or a shot that gently S-curves or fades right after about 300 feet. We all have that shot, right?
3: Standard hyzer shot with bad situations if you are straight or early.
4: This USED to be the signature/memorable hole. The tee pad is still there on the corner of the tennis courts, but there is a sign leading you to the "official" tee pad. The old shot made you resort to all sorts of disc trickery: rollers, super hyzers, forehand flexers, monster thumbers, etc. Now it is a 280 foot straight shot with no soul.
5: Tricky, tricky. Requires an uphill throw, again left to right. May be a lane straight up the gut, but that would be tight.
6: Thus begins the holes I think might be close to unfair. This one isn't as bad as the others, but you'll see what I mean. Requires a drive that arcs about 80 feet straight-ish, then fades the remaining 180 feet to the basket. Left to right, natch.
7: Uphill 261 feet. Deceptive length, pretty straight.
8: Uphill slope makes this 270 play like 350. Low tree branches lessen the optimal line.
9: Downhill 290 that requires shot to fade from left to right subtly.
10: Another drive that might seem difficult to achieve. Needs a shot to travel 75 feet straight, then arc left to right and glide 150 feet to the basket.
11: More flex shots needed. 292 feet. Can go semi straight at it, but will need something without a lot of fade or skip.
12: Just read Hole 10's description and add 40 feet to the "after the corner turn" distance.
13: Best example of my "who has this shot?" critique.
This left to right arc is quite shallow and wants you to travel around 100 feet to the corner, then turn 90 degrees right and travel another 138 feet.
14: 287 foot straight shot, but basket is tucked into the right side of the end of the fairway, requiring a shot that finishes straight or right.
15: Hyzer shot, 219 feet.
16: 329 feet, requires a shot that goes around 300 feet and stays low enough to pass under a guardian tree right before the basket.
17: One last shot that asks you to throw either laser straight with zero fade, or an under stable disc that works left to right. OB road on the left, with tree line on the right that creates a V with the basket in the rear point.
18: 305 downhill. The trees and planters and such may mess with your distance judgement. If you throw straight at the basket the fast green will carry your disc away.

I should say that all my hole descriptions are for a 900+ rated golfer attempting to attack a course that seems attackable. For instance, Hole 17 could easily be a 250 foot straight shot, 90 foot approach, and 10 foot putt for a 3. Every hole on the course is a relatively simple 3, but it is going to make you work and execute your shots to achieve 2's.

This course has everything for the beginner and the experienced player. I agree with the previous reviews regarding all the improvements. What I like best, it is so clean. I also like the fact that it is golf cart friendly, I take my Club Car and breeze through 18 in no time flat. I guess the most important thing is that I am able to watch and help beginners...We were all beginners at one time and I see many of our local Pros play at PK. There are no other courses that can compare to PK. Now PK has replaced my other favorite course which was Crooked Creek also a very clean course.

Pendleton King Park is a good disc golf park if you are a beginner such as myself. It has wooded and open holes with birdie opportunities. What a suprise to all the "new" and improved changes since my last visit in 2011. Great tee pads and good next hole signs. Since my 6yr old plays with me it is nice to have the benches, trash cans, and bathrooms(very clean) available. Kudo's to whoever is in charge of the improvements and thank you!!! You did a great job!! I can't wait to visit again.

Compared to Riverview, Patriots, and Lake Olmstead, Pendleton King Park cleanest and easiest course. It is a beginner friendly course.

- Nice course with a fair amount of up/down rolling hills - nothing too steep
- Fairways in the woods, while amply wide, often deceive and turn what appears to be a quick easy par into a par+1.
- There is a good mixture of normal and turnover shots available.
- Several holes have alternate pin positions
- No super-long crush holes, but there are a few 300+ footers to let you blast a disc out there (Holes 2, 16, and 17)
- Benches on each hole
- Trash cans at every hole
- Signage with hole number and par at each hole
- Good for a quick round

- Occasionally there are park goers/events that interfere with playing holes (weddings / photographers / picnickers IVO hole 18, picnickers near hole 4 pin)

I have played all the local courses; Jackson, Steady Ed and Warner at IDGC in Appling Georgia, Hogback, Old Glory and Moody Hills at the Hippodrome in North Augusta, SC, Riverview Park in North Augusta, SC, Patriots Park in Evans Georgia and Lake Olmstead, Augusta. Without any doubt Pendleton King Park (PK) is the "Cleanest and friendliest" course I have ever played. I do not know how to describe it exactly, but it is a beginner friendly course that has enough challenge to make me play it again and again. If you are coming to Augusta, make time to play PK, you will not regret it. There is something for the whole family to do while the disc golf members play. Playgrounds, bike paths, walking and jogging paths, nature trails, wetlands, bird sanctuary, very clean picnic areas, 5 flower gardens and much more. Just minutes away are supermarkets Kroger, Publix, and Food Lion and Augusta Mall and many Gas service stations. Plenty of parking and probably many other points I missed. Just come and enjoy the Finest.

Hardly any! Maybe a couple of longer holes. And hole 2 being a lil too close to the kids playground

Alot of work has been put into this course lately and it has become a beautiful course to play

1. Large concrete tee pads on every hole. The tee pads are nicely placed and have been surrounded with M-10 crushed rock to provide nice run up and run off areas on the tees. Plenty of room for the longest run-ups.
2. Tee signs with accurate distances are visible from the tee pad on every hole.
3. Custom benches on every hole. Each bench was donated by sponsors and have a unique insert recognizing these sponsors inlaid in the benches. The benches are large and placed behind the tees.
4. Trash cans throughout the course. Large 55 gallon trash cans are conveniently placed so there is no reason to not use them.
5. Fairways are clear of obstacles. The fairways have been trimmed to offer fair shots. The odd "invisible limbs" have been removed to offer fair shots if you hit your lines.
6. Directional signage from hole to hole is very visible. Look for the white pained "hands" pointing to the next tee. This helps during a couple of the longer transitions.
7. Ruff is cleared of dead and fallen trees. The course plays through the woods on many of the holes, especially on the back nine. The area to the right and left have been trimmed back to offer good fairways as stated earlier in this post. The ruff is typically small trees and large scrub growth and going in there may result in some additional strokes, especially if you go deep. You won't find piles of trash or piles of limbs in there though. These have all been cleaned up.
8. Baskets have been painted for visibility. Each basket has an orange painted marker on top that can be seen from a distance. This helps clarify the basket locations for the thrower.
9. Course is maintained extremely well. Volunteer course maintenance is handled by Fast Eddie and his crew of volunteers. They have done a wonderful job on the course and continue to make improvements. I hear that bag hangers for each hole are in the works. Netting to stop errant discs from flying into the playground areas is also planned. If you have any other suggestions, post them on the kiosk near hole 1 and they will be considered.
10. Bathroom facilities are available near hole 2 and 8 for both men and women. The facilities have always been clean and open, which is rare for many courses.

1. The playground area near hole two is open to an errant shot. Take care here until the netting gets installed.
2. Hole 18 is an ideal spot for picnickers that are unaware of their presence on a disc golf course. Be courteous and they will usually make way.

The course at Pendleton King Park (PK) plays around a children's play area and a fenced dog lot. It's in a community park. The layout of the course minimizes the interaction with these areas as much as possible but disc golfers must be respectful of others using the park however.

The City of Augusta Parks and Recreation Department has an on-site staff member on the property and it is obvious he is engaged with the property. This is rare for a city park.

The Pendleton King Foundation is very proud of this park and continues to be a supporter of disc golf as evidenced by their continued support of Fast Eddie's efforts to make course improvements. Having an outside supporter for a park is even more rare than having an on-site maintenance staff. Their continued support is something to be cultivated.

Absolutely stunning park. Gorgeous landscaping, wonderful brick constructs, and the proper amount of water... all of which is off the course.

Would like to see at least one Par 5 and few longer holes. but as a casual player, I can't think of anything I don't like about it.

There are dogs barking in the park.... hahah if you here people complain about that just chuckle and enjoy being in a wondeful park.

Loud dogs barking in people's backyards on hole 1-3 and people always think the fairways are nature trails, but you can't really blame either of those on the course.

Great course. If you haven't played here before make sure you do you won't regret it.

It is evident that they are putting a lot of work into improving the course. The tee pads are in great shape and the area around them has been recently leveled off. The course is somewhat short but was pretty challenging for me as a beginner. I thought there was decent variety to the holes. The park was very nice overall. Beautiful in spots with the trees flowering. There were garbage cans and new benches at most if not all holes. Very few places to worry about losing a disc. The course was very easy to follow with great new signage everywhere to help. The course seemed very accessible. We had a person who had recently had knee surgery walking with us and she seemed to do fine. The benches look great! Water bottle holders on a couple of holes and I hear bag hangers are in the works. I also heard they were going to be putting in some safety netting in the areas where the course comes close to the picnic areas... great work by the local crew to address concerns.

I heard the pond used to be more in play which sounded interesting. If there could be a couple longer holes added that would be nice. Also if there were a way to bring in more elevation change would be more to my liking.

They have done a lot of work on this course. Put up markers to navigate you throughout the course, trash cans and bench on all holes. For the most part course is flat and easy to walk. It's a great place to learn the game

-Fast Eddie and the group that have volunteered to improve the course have done an amazing job over the past few weeks. Many of the fairways have been cleared of debris.

- Pendleton King is very clean and well maintained. There are new benches and trashcans at every hole.

-This course is suitable for beginners or players who want to play a quick round.

-The baskets are in good condition and markers have been added to guide players from hole to hole.

-The tee pads have had some work and the new concrete has made them look good and function really well.

-Players on the course are friendly as well as the staff that maintains the park.

-There is plenty of parking available.

-There isn't a mix between technical and open shots. Most of the holes are straight shots with a little bit of curve to them.

-Holes 1 and 2 might make some players uncomfortable for being so close to recreational areas for children and picnic tables. However, I haven't seen anyone have problems with these two holes yet.

As far as free to play parks go, if you are looking for a course with a lot of elevation change, I suggest Riverview Park or Lake Olmsted. Patriot's Park is also a fair difficulty. Pendleton King found a place in my rotation, and with the work they have been putting into it I can tell it's going to stay a favorite of mine.

**I'm not sure why this has been so unhelpful, but if you find it so, write a review of your own and explain things about the course I might have missed.**

I really appreciate the changes that have been happening here at this course recently. Fast Eddie has been doing a lot of work to improve this course. New benches, added dirt around the teepads, updated par and distance measurements, temporary signage guiding players to the next hole, and dead trees and sticks being cleaned up from the fairways. Thanks for the improvements. I'm looking forward to seeing the changes that are planned for Stage 2 of improvements planned for the spring of 2013. Keep up the good work!
There are a nice mixture of open/wooded holes at this course. It's easy enough for beginners to enjoy and difficult enough that seasoned players will appreciate playing here.

A few of the holes play too long for a par 3 and too short for a par 4. Since they are marked as par 4's it makes for easy birdies, but different pin locations would help. Hole 7 and the long pin placement at hole 17 would be two examples that come to mind. Picnic tables are pretty close to holes 1 and 2 and may be better served being moved to a less dangerous area.

I would like to see the pin for hole 7 being moved to the very far pin placement that is down the hill to the right of the fairway and down in that deep ravine. I've never played that hole before but it looks super fun and challenging! Overall, a fun course to play for all ages. I appreciate very much the improvements taking place recently.
