- Pierce Park plays through a nice city park in downtown Appleton. The course wends its way around some other park activities, including some benches located in the fairways, and occasionally conflicts with a large pavilion area to the left of #9's otherwise wide-open fairway. The hilly park contains scrubby woodland in areas and huge old trees dot the grassy areas, providing shade in the summer.
- Great use of the available elevation. This is the only course I've ever seen where (on two holes no less!) your disc can go left of the fairway, hit some woods, roll down a bluff, and immediately over a train track at the bottom. I didn't get to witness this myself, but the potential is there. I was slightly disappointed I didn't get to see one of my bad shots horrifically punished by passing locomotive. I guess I'm sick like that.
Hole #'s 5 and 6 use elevation to the utmost potential. #5 is a blind downhill shot requiring the slightest anny (RHBH). Throw without touch and you risk being in fairly thick woods on both sides of the green. #6 is a short uphill throw with a great pin placement. Rollaways are a major threat to the left side of the green. This is a great ace run that fairly punishes overzealous attempts.
- Good use of the large mature trees throughout the course. From hole #1 and on, the course makes the most of creating various lines through the massive oaks. #9 is really the only truly open hole.

- Wow-o-wow are the tees ever so close to the previous holes' baskets. With the available room, there is absolutely NO good reason for the close proximity of basket and tee. This is a major safety hazard. To compound matters, the tees are natural. This means that there are now long, rutted-out strips of dirt well past the (poorly) designated tee spots because players have moved up to avoid being hit from behind. Out of the 200+ courses I've seen, this is by far the most glaring example of hazardously cramped layout. My rating reflects the high level of danger.
- #9 throws over a park road past an often busy pavilion for no real discernably good reason.

- According to my local guide (Thanks Paulie!), this course used to be an epic lid layout back in the day. I was shown one or two of the old holes; in the context of lids, some of the old design would seem to greatly surpass a lot of the current layout in terms of challenge and interest.
- This course gives off a nice enough vibe. Hit it up at non-peak times to avoid getting blasted on the noggin from behind and enjoy the round. It's not going to change your views of disc golf or blow your mind but it's an imminently playable layout with enough going for it to bear repeat visits.

Pierce park is an easy 9 hole course, that plays along the outer edge of the park. The course is great for those who are just starting out at the game. The course is somewhat wooded, allowing for a multitude of different approaches to the pin.

Dirt tees. They keep getting bigger every year they are not fixed up. The baskets are also too close to the next tee. So you not only have to wait for the group ahead to finish the hole, you also have to wait for them to tee off to make sure you don't hit anybody.

Overall, the park is kept in good condition, and is great for anyone who wants to get into disc golf. It would be a lot better with cement or rubber tees.
If you aren't satisfied with Pierce, Telulah Park is only a couple miles away.

This is a nice nine with a scenic hill top view of the Fox River after hole #2. The oldest course in the Fox Cities, although it was an object course for most of it's life. I've played there many times with many players of varying abilities; including pros. It is not as easy to score well on this nine as you would think.
Hole #3 a good hole with o.b. road running the length of it.
Hole #4 nice wooded hole with two tiers of fairway.
Hole #5 blind down hill (not nearly as good as the object original; but not a bad hole except for the potential of hitting someone)
Hole #6: uphilll anheiser finish (rhbh). Fall away green.
Hole #7 decently long, blind anheiser.

Tee pads are very close to pins. Be aware that groups behind may be throwing on you; and be courteous to groups in front. Tees are dirt and have spread to 15 foot in length and width to both sides of tee sign.

Course project conceived, and carried through to completion (even to the extent of designing hot stamp design for initial tourney disc), by a 4th grade class and their teacher, from next door Jefferson School. This is quite unique.
Historically speaking; Steve Trogger, who also designed the original layout of Hatten Park, New London (of which the current 18 hole basket layout is nearly identical), designed Peirce as well.
I have to say that this being one of my nearest courses; I play here as often as any of the "Fox Valley 8". I originally rated it as a 2.5; and have come down .5 twice since then. This is due to poor natural tees and the fact that they are directly behind the targets. Hole #8 is a pure/waste, heiser, ace run for rhbh. #9 is simply an open 350 ft. hole. My arm needs a good drive to get there; but for many; this hole would be considered trivial. So, a poor finish to this course.
This is a fairly heavily used park; for other activities: an annual, huge, vintage car show; and a pavilion rented by many groups, near hole #9. There are times when you need to be careful, or perhaps shouldn't throw this hole....use discretion. However, on more than one occasion; this has added a fun factor bonus; as there have been huge tents set up for one function or another; which very much came into play on #9.
Restatement finale: I still stand behind the fact, that I believe this is a more difficult course overall than most think at first.
