Interesting City Park Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 3, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Concrete Tees
-OK Signage
-A little elevation and a few trees to play in
-"Front 9" of short tees or "Back 9" of long tees
-Baskets are OK
-Park is well kept
-9 Hole loop

Cons:

-Multi-use park, comes into play on #1 (10), #6 (15) and #17.
-No benches, few trash cans
-Could use a map
-Strange Pars, a little too nice on a couple of holes
-Not a ton of interest for the more experienced players

Other Thoughts:

Platt Park in Oelwein, IA is a nice city park course. The course is layed out with 9 baskets. The "front 9" plays all the short tees and a "Back 9" plays a set of longer tees for each hole for a set of 18. Most holes play straight away, a little elevation in play. Trees come into play on #3 (11), #5 (13), #6 (14) and #8 (17). A shelter comes into play on #1 (10), back again on #6 (15). Walking paths are crossed on #3 (11), #4 (12) and #17. The park hasn't been too busy when I've played , but may be more so on weekends. The Par 5 on #5 (14) is way too generous, but overall it's a good park for the novice or someone wanting a bit of a breather from the monster courses. Some benches and a map would give this a slightly higher rating. Enjoyed my rounds here. Would play again, if in the area.

Getting double the bang for 9 baskets. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 17, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Open course with a good variance of holes. Usually fairways are very open, but trees do hinder some shots. Impressively fits 18 holes in to a smaller park. The front 9 are basic midrange shots, none topping 300 ft. Then the back 9 are 250+ to around 300+ with on long 444 footer. Baskets are good and tee boxes are cement.

Cons:

Other than distance, holes can get repetitive basically throwing down an open fairway although there are some trees. Only 9 baskets, but have alt. tee box placements to make it 18 holes. Signs aren't too descriptive of the hole, but usually its easy to see the basket. Tee boxes are far to short. OB road comes into play in the middle of some holes. There are times in the back nine where you throw right behind the other tee placement.

Other Thoughts:

Played my first tourney at this course and would be a great course to learn the basics at, first 9 focus on putting and midrange and the back 9 is you can really give your arm a work out. No facilities to speak of but the course is kept up very nicely.
