A must play! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 11, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

well maintained, dedicated disc golf course, has a practice tee with a unique setting, woods are fairly easy to find lanes in, good elevation changes, has disc grabbers around course to retrieve wet discs

Cons:

can be quite technical at times which might make it too challenging for the beginner, difficult to get to the course for the out-of-towner, a few blind shots

Other Thoughts:

This is definitely one of those courses that you have to throw at. Worth finding, for sure.

2017 Update 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There are three new holes that Don Parker - the volunteer course caretaker - has added this summer. The new holes start after Hole #10. Immediately after Hole #10 head up to the right and follow the wood chips to the new tee box.

New #11: This is a short shot but there are is a Mando on the two big trees that you have to put your shot between. Regardless, it's a pretty soft RHFH "flick" or a soft RHBH anhyzer upshot from the tee. It's short enough that I've jump putted (on an anhyzer line) and put it close enough to put it in for a 2.

New #12: This hole is a hard 3. You have a hard dog leg to the right almost immediately off of the tee box, slightly uphill, but then it straightens out and heads downhill along a tight fairway. This hole sticks to the courses overall theme of accurately placed drives as you don't want to get into the woods on either side of the narrow fairway or you'll be hammering out of them hoping to get back into the open.

New #13: This one is fairly straight forward RHBH shot down a narrow alley, slightly uphill, and the basket is set up on a hill to the left. Roll aways are a concern as the hill is barren so even if you place the perfect shot if it lands wrong it could roll down to the right. It's not too long and can be driven with a long drive from a putter or a mid-range.

Cons:

The new Hole #11 is a bit short but the Mando trees make it a bit more challenging. It's still an easy 2 almost every time.

Other Thoughts:

Don, the caretaker, has done an awesome job keeping the course clean, updating pin placements from time to time, and providing poles with hooks to retrieve discs that have gone in the water.

Keep up the good work!

Cons:

-Can get a bit crowded.
-Some areas are a little too wooded for some holes that are long and maybe could have been made shorter for that purpose.

Top 3 free course in mpls 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 17, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great use of a small space, 12 quality holes in a city park, most with dual tees. Even a legit Par 5 (something like 670') in a densely wooded area. Nice shady trees for windy or hot days. Hole placement around trees is perfect for sculpting drives, good reward/punishment for controlled driving or not. Excellent signage made for easy navigation as a first timer. No trash anywhere. Just enough elevation change to make it more interesting. Probably the most well cared for free course in the Twin Citites that I've seen. Plus poles hanging on nearby trees to fish an errant disc out of the creek.

Cons:

Honestly nothing comes to mind. Would be great if someday it was 18 holes, then it would beat out Acorn in my opinion and be in better shape.

Other Thoughts:

I met a man who volunteers working on the course and thanked him for it. It really shows that somebody cares for this place. He saw me barely miss an ace on the first hole and stopped to chat. Would play this course on all my days off if it was a little closer.

Great free course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 15, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- A good variate shots needed, all of which need to be accurate because of the trees and creek.

- Poles to get discs out of the creek and many well placed bridges for crossing the creek.

- Easy to navigate with clear directional markers and tee markers.

- Compared to most free courses, this course is very well marked and kept up.

Cons:

- Some more distance would be nice, There is only one hole that's any kind of distance challenge.

- 12 is an odd number of holes, I'm not sure where they would put them, but it would be great if they found a way to build morel.

Other Thoughts:

This course is free but surprisingly well kept and interesting. If they found a way to increase the distance and increase it to 18 holes it could probably be a top notch course.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 16, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-A whole variety of hole types.
-All holes have a cement tee.
-90% in the shade, great for hot sunny summer days.
-Actual danger holes.
-Water fountain at 'Warming Hut'.
-Benches and garbage's all around.
-(Update, they added new rocks and touched up some holes as of this summer[2011])

Cons:

-Expect kids fooling around in the afternoon, and adults that SERIOUSLY take there time in the early afternoon. (Annoying Traffic)
-Parking shared by multiple soccer and baseball fields.
-Stupid teens destroy everything, from the fun of the game, to physical things like the trees, and leaving litter everywhere... some of the tee's even got stolen a five'ish years back.
-If you haven't been here in awhile, look before you throw, they changed the tee locations.
-Kids toss their trash anywhere they please, and the trash bins are emptied infrequently.
-All the low level plant life is gone, making some of the tee-to-hole play hard for anyone new to the course.
-Depending on the weeks weather, the course can be unplayable; flooded, muddy, freakishly buggy.

Other Thoughts:

-This Place Rocks!!!!

Trees, Trees and Trees 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Variety of throws. Nice to be in the woods. Not a course where you drive your disc every throw. Actual tees and nice baskets. Overall enjoyable course that I play at least twice a week

Cons:

Do not come here within 3 days after a storm as the stream's water level will raise and carry your disc downstream, Hole 3 will have a pond around it that you can't see until after you tee off, Hole 5 will be in the stream, the tee for Hole 9 will be under water, and Hole 8 becomes much more enjoyable if any of your discs fade to the left as they will end up in the creek. Lots of stoners and drinking. Busy during afternoon after 3pm.

Other Thoughts:

Definitely a course worth the drive. The only real problem is after it rains a lot it becomes a lot less enjoyable. Holes 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11 could use an anhyzer shot.

Trees! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 16, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I like hazards, I want to be challenged with trees, water, etc. rather than just distance. If you don't, well...

The first hole looks pretty cool, with a tree perfectly situated to knock your disc right into the creek when you thought you had perfectly overthrown the water. (although it is now too short, good for shooting for aces, I guess) They've been doing landscaping on #1. Not sure why, but there are steps built in, now. (2011 update) But not where they really needed steps. It looks like they are terracing it for decoration. Rather odd.

And after that it is pretty much trees. Some nice variety for left or right and a few hidden pins. Not too many issues where a disc has a good chance to roll away from the pin, even though you might expect that from the hilly terrain.

Very much fun for technical players that are prepared to line up shots and use different discs. And AIM, heh!

The creek is fairly clean, so fetching errant discs is not horrible.

Cons:

A couple of the tee pads are breaking away from ground erosion underneath and/or end with dropoffs. Makes running off them when throwing rather suicidal, so you should know how to stop.

If you don't like hazards like 7000 trees, then that would be a big con.

Other Thoughts:

Much better in the current incarnation, which has been here many years. If you don't like the trees, just be glad it isn't like the original with high grasses challenging almost every hole. It took away discs and returned ticks as payment.

Love this course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 15, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

With a creek running through the middle of the course in coming into play on several of the holes this course at 12 holes is perfect for the land. They could've crammed 18 holes in here but instead they put in 12 quality well designed and challenging holes. Played through a mature forest with lots of elevation change. Fairways are generally tight and demand accuracy and placement over distance. The short holes are not easy as they have some of the hardest to navigate fairways.
Hole 8 could probably be considered the signature hole. Its about a 600ft dogleg right with the creek running along its left side. This hole can easily become a round killer.
Holes 1 and 10-12 have larger fairways were the trees dont come into play as much. 2-9 are all within the woods with tight fairways and trees to combat. Straight shots and anhyzers/forehands are a must to do well.

Cons:

None. Fantastic use of the land available.

Other Thoughts:

One of my favorite things about Twin Cities disc golf is that they dont try to jam in as many holes as they can. Quality over quantity seems to be their motto.
All from Pro tees:
#1 - A straight shot over the creek that is fairly open with a large tree to the right. Basket is slightly downhill and has woods along the leftside of the green.
#2 - A slight anhyzer shot over a small hill and then back down the otherside. Fairway slowly tightens up as you progress into the woods. The basket is protected by seveal thin trees. Knock downs are common.
#3 - A straight shot into the woods. The fairway tightens down quickly and the ceiling drops about halfway down into a tunnel shot. The green is lined with with trees.
#4 - A short hole threw a very tight straight fairway. I'd say its like 3-5' wide at one point. The trees are very unforgiving. The basket is ever -so-slightly uphill. Along the right side of the basket the hill dips down and rolls can be common.
#5 - Is a short hyzer thru a tight fairway with many trees protecting the route to the basket. A gentle skip shot seems to work best. About 5' behind the basket is the creek.
#6 - Is a uphill slight anhyzer. The fairway is lined with trees on both sides. The right side is fairly tight. The green is open and on a slight pitch.
#7 - Is a tight downhill through a mess of trees. The fairway is kind of a J-shape but there is some "lucky" routes that give you a straight run. Basket is surrounded by several trees. (favorite)
#8 - This is the signature hole. The creek runs along the whole left side. The best way to describe this fairway for the 600' beast is an "s" shape that leads into a dogleg right. Trees line the length of the fairway. After the dogleg the leftside opens up. From the tee the fairway drops down and then raises back up about halfway . The fairway is pitched towards the creek. (best designed)
#9 - Is a straight shot up the hill thru a 15' wide gap about halfway. The basket is protected by a few large trees.
#10 - Is a short shot across the draw leading to the creek. One large tree directly in front of the basket is really the only contention. The right side is wide open and the left side is lined with trees.
#11 - A gentle anhyzer on top of a small domey hill. Fairway is surrounded with trees but none that really prove a factor. Waht you would call an open hole in the woods.
#12 - A long straight shot down a fairway that gradually opens up. The leftside is lined with trees and just past the thin line of trees is the creek. Along the right there are a few trees that can knock down your throw if you flex it too much. The basket is protected by 2 random mounds of dirt ( i assume the leftovers from the rest of the park construction) . A low shot is bound to hit one of the mounds. Directly behind the basket is some thick rough in the woods.

Test Your Accuracy at Plymoth Creek 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 16, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Very scenic woods, very private feeling
-Will improve your accuracy significantly
-Variety of challenges and shots (requires both forehand and backhand shots to keep up)
-Dual concrete tee boxes

Cons:

-The fact that there are so many trees can make your experience rather demoralizing, I frequently get frustrated to the point of wanting to give up.

Other Thoughts:

All in all, the course is remarkable, you can gripe about how the abundance of trees ruins your score, but played frequently enough, those trees are going to make you a better player.
As I said, this course demands you throw both forehand and backhand, as well as your setup and placement.

My Recommendation: Bring a stress ball!

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Right off the first tee, you throw over a creek which sets the tone for this course. The course is based around the creek, so it keeps popping up.
There is a good mix of heavily wooded and lightly wooded holes as well as a few open holes. There is a good variety in distance as well, with number 8 being 612 feet.
An ok course for beginners to go to, I remember playing here after only a few months of playing and thinking wow this course is really fun, even though I'm getting dominated.

Cons:

There are only 12 holes when it seems like there could be space for more. Other than that, the only con is that you could damage a disc with all the trees everywhere.

Other Thoughts:

I would recommend this course for players of all skill levels.
