Debatable if it should still be listed

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 10, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well, There are tee signs for most of the holes.
There are 8 baskets left
If you go in the summer, you will probably come across a rattlesnake
Decent flow, easy to follow course

Cons:

There are only 7 holes with both tee signs and baskets
Desert grass and bush is knee high on the whole course.

Other Thoughts:

This course has been listed as "unplayable" for years, but since I was driving by I figured I would stop and check it out.

UDisc does not even have a map of this course so I had pulled up the map from here. I was ready to figure out what was playable. As an avid course collector I have played some pretty rough courses.

Well, I started on what I thought would be the Red (back 10) off the course map as I knew the new pond had taken out a couple of the Blue (front 10) holes.

Sure enough, I found the tee sign for hole 11 and was able to play 11 to 17 with no problem. Really didn't even need the map as you could see the next tee sign from the previous basket.

Now don't get me wrong, most of the tee boxes were totally overgrown with knee high desert grass and other brush including yucca plants. But at least these holes were marked and the baskets were there.

Well the tee sign for hole 8 was stuck inside of basket 17. Basket 18 was in place, but no tee sign. I did find some rocks that probably outlined the original tee so I played 18.

Well, that was it, 19's tee sign was there, but no basket.

I walked the map for the Blue course, no tee signs or basket for holes 1 or 2, holes 3 to 7 had tee signs, but no baskets. Normally when I play a course with a missing basket, I usually throw to a nearby tree. In this case there were no trees. So I usually just threw my drive, then walked to the next tee box.

When I got to where 8 should be, I knew there was no sign. I looked for some rocks but had to just make an educated guess an made up hole 8's tee. 9's tee was there but I knew that basket was already missing along with 10's tee and basket.

So as it stands right now this is an 8 hole course that is almost playable. It was 50 degrees when I played so no snakes were out. But from what I have read, this course is known for rattlesnakes.

In all honestly, this course is not worth a stop, not even close. The newer course up in Clovis is worth playing and is actually a decent course.

Would I play here again. NO, even if they replaced the baskets I don't think I would stop here again. But looking at the state of the park, that is never going to happen.
