Fun at first then... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 22, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is set in a nice, quiet park in a small town outside Green Bay. The baskets are chainstars that are all in solid shape and caught fine. There's a nice large map of the course layout by hole 1, which is nice even though the lay out is fairly easy to follow. The course starts out in the woods with some tough tunnel shots for the first 4 holes, then 3 play along the pond, then it prairie holes for the next 8 with the last 3 playing in wide open fairways back to the parking lot. There's tee signs with a basic hole layout, hole #, par and distance. Nothing great but they're all you really need here. The course is in ground year round and is free to play. The course was well enough maintained and seems like it would never be too busy if at all. There's a peninsula out into the pond that could be a cool tee area if that's your thing too. A little added challenge.

Cons:

The prairie holes kill the fun that you have on the first half of the course. The rough is SUPER thick and will gobble up discs, at least in the summer/early fall. I can't believe we didn't lose any. The tees on the back half are basically broken chunks of concrete pieced into pads. They're not terrible but not great either. The course is mostly flat and there are no trees to speak of on the back section of the course. I'm not sure what the construction they're doing by holes 16, 17 and 18 is all about but it kind of messes up the last 3 holes at the moment. Especially 16.

Other Thoughts:

This course started out fun and then you get to the prairie and it becomes annoying. Not worth a trip out of your way to play but if you're in the area it's still worth a round. Just stay on the fairway or expect to search awhile. If you're in the area I'd recommend Pinecrest instead. It's not terrible but also not great. Decent. I certainly wouldn't rate this as anything under a 2 though. It's not THAT bad.

Not a bad course for a small town! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 23, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Nice variety of shot selection. There are some tight although slight turns in the woods, There are more wide open ripper holes. There are tighter shots with water on one side and woods on the other. There is even a shot of ultimate risk/reward for those 300' + throwers.

2) This property has just about everything. There are some wooded tunnel shots, there is some water in play on the left side of many holes. There is even a water carry if you have the guts to try and throw 300-325'.

3) Chainstar baskets in great shape with # plates on top.

4) Signs have hole #, distance, and a minimalist line diagram of the hole layout. Minimal in description of th ehole, but the line tells the general direction of the hole.

5) Mulch path through the woods is nice (although also somewhat lumpy) because it defines a true fairway. It also takes all stumps out of play for those first 4 holes.

6) Big overhead map of the property at the first hole. It is a little faded and tough to really see detail but the effort is there to give people an overview of the overall layout.

7) Blue boards buried in the ground to mark the front of the tee are helpful in knowing where you are headed. They are tough to find on some holes as the grass is overgrowing them, but it is somewhat helpful at the very least.

8) Nice challenge overall through this course. Some of the difficulty is the thought you might lose one of your drives to the left on holes #8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15. It made me turn 3 or 4 of them over too much in fear of losing a disc in the water to the left. I did throw one in the water but was able to retrieve it and make par anyways!

9) Practice basket available to the south of the first hole as well as a picnic table and a clearing where I assume the locals mut congregate for minis and such. I didn't even see the practice basket outside of those woods until after I finished my round.

Cons:

1) Relatively flat on the whole course. Elevation change isn't 100% needed but it is appreciated from me. I like how elevation can alter shot selection and this course there isn't more than 4-5' of change on any given hole.

2) Water holes #8, 9, 10, 11, 14, and 15 are fairly repetetive. Avoid the water on the left. At least a couple of the baskets are actually tucked to the opposite side of the fairway.

3) Hole #18 . . . not sure how it is intended to be played but there is an opening in the woods on s imple little hyzer line. Perhaps it is played as a mando but it wasn't visible. The reason i figure it might be a mando is that in the middle of the season the corn has to be higher than the basket. The board also lines up for a layup shot about 125' to the left to an opening in the woods. I was able to just throw right at the basket and make my 2, whether that was the intended design or not.

4) The mulch is very uneven in the woods. I would think with 8-12" of mulch in the woods they could at the very least pack them down and smooth them out. One of the tees is also tough to throw from because it is so uneven.

5) The wooded holes are very punishing if you get off the fairway. This is a positive and a negative however.

6) I wouldnt say this course is beginner friendly because of the tight fairways on 1-4 and #12, and also the fact that 6 or 7 holes have water (really) in play. There is the ultimate risk reward for a beginner who could easily toss 1 or 2 in the water especially those beginners who only throw RHBH or LHFH. The water is on the am side of the fairway!

Other Thoughts:

This is not a bad course overall. It has a decent vvariety in distances, decent shot shaping is required, water comes into play on 7 holes. The holes around the water get a little repeteive but throwing the basket up in the woods on #11, the tight right turning fairway on #12 and a nice short little ace run on #13 break up the repetetiveness a bit.

I had a good time and was happy to get out to play this weekend as it wasn't 100% expected especially considering how much rain was predicted. I was able to hit 4 courses including the 3 Clintonville courses. This was by far the most balanced and funnest course of the bunch. It has potential too, because I really felt like the wooded part of the course could have a few more holes added. Perhaps alter some of those holes around the water and the 3 or 4 wide open holes and add a couple more wooded holes and I would have enjoyed the course even more. If I lived in the area this would be my course of choice out of the ones I have played.

pulaski 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 30, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

5 open holes. a few wooded holes to start out that are all straight tunnel shots. If you like to air out your disc, then this is a good course. 4 holes that are around 400 or bigger, one thats 588 i believe. shots around the pond are tough because of narrow fairways. Best part about here is that there doesnt seem to be a lot of frolfers in pulaski so you wont run into a lot of people.

Cons:

no pads. not a lot of variety. no elevation. not very scenic (you play in a corn field for two of the holes). My biggest con is when your done playing hole 5 you walk up to a field were you see 4 pins just in the field, nothing else but the posts to tell you were to shoot and the pins you shoot at, and its a flat field, probably once used for agriculture.
Also i guess it can be fairly easy to lose a disc in the drink, but you don't throw over any water just next to water, which is another con i would say. the designer should of added at least one hole where you go over the pond, if they utilized that in the course I would probably rate this course higher.

Other Thoughts:

Well is it worth it. If your like me who loves to throw almost anywhere, its worth it. There is no gimmis but a lot of easy throws. .

decent course/tough water 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice tee signs now in. Fairways mowed and in good shape. Lots of water requires straight drives from tee. First four holes tight wooded fairways; again, requiring precise drives from tee.
Wild life on course; have seen geese and turkeys wandering fairways. Bear sighted very near course in recent years.

Cons:

Course is rather plain. I've been there four times now and always come away feeling like, "This is a tough course to score on and if I've kept plastic out of the ponds, I feel good about that. But, there is nothing special to remember other than that."

Other Thoughts:

Park's department had the course looking good; which was not always the case in the past. This will be a good tournement course, especially if a few "gold" tees are added; which there is room for. Intermediate players may be frustrated here due to losing plastic. I would suggest always bringing a couple of discs that you don't mind losing to throw on a few of the water holes. Most trips here are going to involve losing plastic if you're not throwing perfectly.
