Escape the Haines Crowds 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Fun course; best thing to do in Haines. Long fairways, for those with a good arm. Super helpful folks at the nearby administration building can give you a course map
(recommended). Keg tees are cool. You get a second chance at all the holes; it is an 18 hole course that uses 9 kegs from 18 tee boxes.

Cons:

Hornets in keg 6, 16. Some of the middle holes are a little barren, but you skirt around the edges in and out of the woods for the most part. Views of a junkyard along one side.

Other Thoughts:

Walk out of Haines on the main Highway. Turn left on Fair. Turn right at the fairgrounds and enter through Dawson City. Turn right on the main street in reproduction Dawson City and exit the town. Straight ahead is the Raven Arena part of the fairgrounds with bleachers on the left. Tee 1 is to the left of the bleachers in the woods. Before you start turn almost 180 degrees from the Raven Arena and you will see a red pole building. This is an administrative building of some sort. If it is staffed, go inside and ask if they can find you a map of the course. It's really helpful. I think hey said they are planning on making it a true 18 hole course.

Mmmm spruce tip! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Eagles in the air, and I'm not talking about discs. Great views as well.
The quarry in the middle adds some long drive opportunities, and multiple tees do provide good variety the second time through.

Cons:

The alders on this course are very thick and lead to a plethora of "aldercations" which can impede a round.

Other Thoughts:

Pick up a growler of Haines Brewing Company's finest before your round. Paul Wheeler's brewery is located in the fairground's Dalton City right where you park to play. Get the Spruce Tip if it's flowing. Pitch some shoes at the Klondike while your there.
