I like it 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice Baskets - Nice Tee Pads - They Point Toward the Basket - Not Crowded - Huge Hill Plays Up and Down - Couple Wide Open Bomb Throw Opportunities - Ace Opportunities - Well Maintained Grass - Easy Navigation

Front Nine - Lots of looks at birdie (Tend to shoot Under Par)

Back Nine - No Water, Lots of Long Bomb Throws ( Bit tougher for me... I Tend to shoot about 1 over Par)

Cons:

Water - Baskets Very Close to the Water - No Map or Yardage Markers at Tee Boxes... Only a Wooden Post with the Tee Number - No Scorecards Available - Water is too Deep to retrieve Wet Discs - Could use more Woods

Front Nine - Lots of Water - Risky decisions to be made

Back Nine - Not much for obstacles

Other Thoughts:

Most of the reviews for this course were made back in the day... the course is way different now. Baskets are ordered Properly Now, so there should be no confusion.

If you're new to the course, there is a good chance you throw a disc into the pool or the stream... I like the Course... 1 is a mid-range throw right along the water, 2 it a throw over the water onto a small peninsula. Both 1 and two are good birdie looks. Three I tend to throw a mid-rage disc, because the farther you throw, the more narrow the fairway becomes, with water on both sides, but a good throw will leave for an easy birdie... Four is short ace opportunity... 5.), I throw my putter now, because I threw my favorite mid-range disc, right over the basket and into the water. 6.) is over the water, or take the long way around... 7.) is up a medium sized hill, 8.) comes back down toward the water, long and left can get wet... 9.) anything left gets wet. 10.) Anything left goes over the fence of Pollock Pool... 11.) Far left could still go over fence.. 12.) One Tree between you and the Basket. 13.) The basket is on a steep hill, if you're disc rolls like a coin after bouncing your putt off the basket, it could go a long way. 14.) Wide Open, a bad shot left could go over the fence and into the baseball field.
15.) Goes up a Huge Hill, a little over 300 feet, but plays much longer. 16.) Comes back down the hill over 400 feet, no obstacles, nothing but space and opportunity... let 'er rip... 17.) is wide open 18.) goes right along the outfield fence, so anything far left will go over...

Overall, I like this course... Best Ive shot on the Front Nine is -5 under par... Best Ive shot on the back is Even...

Renewed Hope 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 19, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good use of Tree lines, some good uses of the waterways, excellent baskets, excellent tee pads, good use of elevation where available.

Cons:

Some incorrect hole layouts cause water to come into play where it shouldn't.

The parks department initially labeled the holes with #1 starting where the skate park is rather than the traditional start by the bulletin board.

Multi-use park areas can at time get congested, but this is expected in a park next to a high school and in the middle of town.

Other Thoughts:

As an Oshkosh native it is not exaggeration to say I have played this course at least 300 times. For years it was nothing more than a place to chase an ace (rhyme very much intended) while weighing your disc's value in your mind because the water was always in play.

Hole 7 traditionally stood on an angle from some skater punks who thought it was a good idea to stomp it down, and course management always stopped at a light breezing through the fairways with a mower.

However in the last few years the parks department has done an AMAZING job restoring this course to a formidable stop and play course. With 1-2 holes that can challenge even seasoned vets and interesting lines involving the large old trees left untouched by the creek restoration project the course can be a fun venture for any level of player.

On the subject of the water holes, yes some are admittedly poorly designed however i play this course 3 times a week with the newest of am players and in an entire season have lost but 2 discs. The reason for my good numbers is due to the fact i have 4 innova dx dragons in my trunk. These discs not only fit into the arm speed of your average beginner well but also are usually easily grabbed with a branch from shore without even getting a single toe wet. Should a course require a floating disc to safely play it? no. However a 5$ used dragon is a small price for me to pay to enjoy this well transformed old course.
