Basic beginner/rec park course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-9 well mounted DISCatchers in good condition.
-Basic tee signs marking the tee location with hole number and Par.
-Good mix of hole length varying between about 150' and 450'.
-Nice use of the trees with holes 5-8. Those holes coupled with some ace runs made the spin worth it for me.
-Well maintained county park. Grass was well mowed and minimal garbage. Other amenities include picnic pavilion, playground, pit toilet, primitive campsites, and river access with a basic boat ramp.
-Quick easy access to a pelt if you're driving the route between Williston and Glendive. Only about 2 miles off the highway.
-Free to play.

Cons:

-No course sign/map/info board.
-No actual tee boxes, just the signs in grass.
-Tee signs don't contain hole length.
-Holes 1-4 and hole 9 have no trees.
-No elevation change at all, meh.
-User conflicts/safety concerns. Many holes play right by or over(Hole 3)the main drive. 7s basket is right by the campsites, like within 20'. Both holes 8 and 9 play a little close to the playground for a beginner course to be safe. Not sure how busy this park gets but this could cause issues.

Other Thoughts:

Super basic beginner park course with little golf substance outside of the few treed holes. If it wasn't so well maintained and didn't have pretty solid amenities I might go with a 1/5, but as is, "Passable" seems fair. Really, for the skill level it was aimed at and the land that was available, it's a decent install. Certainly nothing to go out of your way for but perfectly fine for locals who just want to get out and chuck, so long as they stay aware of possible safety issues. Only reason I could ever see returning would be if it happened to line up with a good overnight stopping point to camp. Course would be great for a little camping glow round as there's minimal rough and plenty of ace runs.
