Come for the haunting, not the disc golf 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 21, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

An old, short 9 hole layout that includes both open and wooded holes. The woods have since become a "haunted hayride" attraction - so the golf fairways wind through hilariously creepy exhibits

+ Nine (largely) playable holes with baskets

+ An absolutely unique course experience, especially if you play it at dusk

Cons:

- Old baskets, no tees or signage - use uDisc to navigate

- Some of the wooded holes use a winding trail (the path of the haunted hayride) as their fairways, so you're throwing around a circle, just dinking and dunking to stay on the path

- Holes #7 and #8 have become really overgrown, and there are no clear throwing lines from the approximate tee locations

Other Thoughts:

~ Don't confuse this course with Upper Salford. The latter is a wide open 9 in a pristine town park

~ Worth a stop if you're in the area. I scored it a 1.5, and my easy-grader buddy scored it a 2.0. We're probably both right. Go for the experience, not for the disc golf

~ We played this course at the end of a long day of playing area 9's and 18's and it was a lucky break. Dusk is a perfect time to weave through the Halloween props and displays. The disc golf course itself wasn't much - but the experience was unique and hilarious

Disappointing course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Playground nearby for kids
-If you have a map it's not terribly hard to figure out
Map can be found at... https://www.pdga.com/files/co...rd_PA_Map.jpg
-Baskets are numbered
-Small variety of shots w/ doglegs and trees and whatnot

Cons:

-Tees are absolutely awful. Two small rubber pads, most now are overgrown and barely noticeable.
-Tees aren't numbered and have no signage, so it's hard to know where you're throwing or how far it is
-Fairways are gravel for the most part, so it's a good way to scratch up your discs
-Very confusing without a map, starting at hole 1...couldn't even find the tee
-tried to putt hole 1 and the disc went straight through the chains and bounced off the pole. The chains were so old and rusted that they didn't do any catching of the disc
-overgrown in spots that made shooting the hole correctly difficult to impossible

Other Thoughts:

All in all it was a dissappointing. Spent time walking around to figure out where the tees were and the course started before I finally looked it up online. The little box kiosk before the playground had nothing but old worn out papers, nothing to help you figure the course out. I could tell it hadn't been properly maintained in awhile, except mowed maybe. Could be fun if they could get better tees and have signs and cut down the overgrowth.

Basic Community Pitch n' Putt 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 11, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Salford Township Community Park is easily accessible from the major transportation routes in the area, most notably, PA-309 and PA-563. The baskets at the park are in great shape. Additionally, the open area of the park is maintained very well. There is a fairly even split between open and wooded holes and a few doglegs as well.

Cons:

SAFETY! As often happens in these community parks, a disc golf course is a nice perk that just adds to the amenities of a park. Unfortunately, little thought goes into the logistics of the game and fairways are situated far too close to or directly on walking paths, frequently-used park features, or playgrounds.

Zero signage. While the course is extremely short and the baskets are easy to spot, the 1' x 2' tees (consisting of two 12" pavers) were difficult to locate. Moreover, there are no distances published (called the township and they're not sure either) so all your throws are calculated guesses.

The layout of hole 7 made very little sense and didn't really have any type of throwing lane. The course was almost completely flat with no real elevation change on any hole.

Additionally, the wooded holes were cluttered with junk, trash, and what appeared to be Halloween buildings from years past, taking the overall experience down a peg.

Other Thoughts:

Make sure that you have your expectations set before you play this course. For the serious disc golfer, this course is not a destination play and will leave you squarely disappointed. If you're a senior, someone playing DG for the first time, or a child, then this course will give you enough of an introduction to work on the basics before trying a more well rounded and professional course in the area.

interesting country course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 25, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Map and rental disc available at community center door over from the post office. For nine holes it has some variety.

Cons:

Tee are hard to notice and not numbered.
Baskets are not numbered.
Woods holes play along walking paths and are never narrow.

Other Thoughts:

I wandered for a second on this one and then remember to check for the map. Once I had the map it was extremely easy to figure the course out as it isn't very large. The tees where just two 12x12 patio pavers with no numbers and hard to spot in the grass.(map helped alot) I the field you can't get lost, once you get into the woods you just follow along the walking trail, however I felt like I was walking onto someones property as you play around a barn and other random objects in the woods. The path are narrow so you have to kinda play short and technical on these holes. Numbered tee and baskets would make this some much easy to follow with out the map and some navigation arrows on the holes them selves wouldn't hurt as a couple have a dog leg in them. Nothing special here but if it's all you got it's better then nothing, and could be extremely beginner friend for showing new people the sport.
