Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Silver Creek's 36 (!!!) holes challenges players of all stripes with a compelling mix of parkstyle, wooded, and prairie disc golf. Distances range from short ace runs (e.g., hole #2 at 147') to long downhill bombs (e.g., hole #14 at 478'). The course can be played as one 36-hole monster, as separate 18-hole loops, or as an 18-hole Silver Cup with even longer tee pads and pin placements. Silver Cup holes have their own signage so keep an eye peeled during navigation. The Silver Cup holes, which my review will reflect, are a real challenge of length, line shaping, and course management.
- Good use of water, from the several wooded holes along the creek (e.g., hole #'s 1, 4, 5, 14) to the raised lighthouse basket (hole #26) located on a peninusula surrounded by raging Lake Michigan. No big water carries or anything of the sort, but the creek is lurking, especially over the first 18 holes, waiting to spoil a round for the careless or unlucky.
- Great use of elevation throughout. Big bomber hill, check. Rolling prairie-style holes, check. Fast greens dropping off into creeks, check. Downhill doglegs through woods to elevated baskets on the shore of Lake Michigan, check. Awesome uphills aceruns (hole #17), check. This place does elevation right. Nothing mountainous or crazy, but they squeeze all the goodness out of the property, and it's pretty darn good.
- Plethora of ups, downs, rights, lefts, into the woods, out of the woods, etc. Mandos in several places to facilite safe play and rule out cheater lines. This course will give your shot repetoire a workout over the full 36 or playing the longest Silver Cup layout.
- Concrete tees, good signage, large map at kiosk near parking lot.
- The only course I know where you can run straight into Lake Michigan for a quick swim mid-round with your own private beach. Bringing trunks and cooling off mid-round is a pro move.
- Not a ton of the typical multi-use park amenities on site (or at least, right at that parking lot). This is pretty much a disc golf centric area of the park. However, the courses itself has tons of wooden structures to help mitigate wayward shots falling on players at the next tee, benches, bridges, etc. Course signage, baskets, tees, and next tee signage (for the most part) are all in fine condition.

Cons:

- The shortish walk to hole #1 isn't immediately apparent. Walk straight past the kiosk along the edge of the woods until you see the signs for hole #1, tucked inside the trees along the creek. Check the map if uncertain. After that the course flows pretty intuitively. The one big confusion, every time I play here, is I seem to want to always climb the hill after hole #20 and go over the bridge. Don't do that! Instead, go underneath the bridge to reach the next hole.
- A few of the holes play a little close to roadways (hole #'s 4, 12, 36) and park infrastructure (hole #4 has some small utility building in play).
- Hole #36, the penultimate hole, is a weak open ace run with only a small bush mid fairway as an obstacle. Obviously a throwaway hole for routing back to the parking lot, I can't help but feel a bit let down by such a bland finish after such an epic round.

Other Thoughts:

- Be aware, the pictures as currently shown are out of date and do not reflect the current layout/numbering, although the actual physical hole remains. For example, hole #16 according to the pictures is now hole #21 with the current numbering configuration.
- Silver Creek, an old friend I've revisted several times over the years, is a chewy, challenging course (or courses) definitely worth stopping by and getting to know. The design offers a ton of variety: a shorter 18-hole beginner's layout, a 36-hole slog utilizing the longer tees to the short pins ideal for intermediate/advanced, the 18-hole Silver Cup challenge, or any combination/permutation thereof. Mix and match this course to your heart's content.
- If this course were chopped in half, I'd rate the first 18er a 4-disc and the second 18er a 3.5-disc. I'd rate the Silver Cup layout a 4. That's a lot of quality golf. Combined into one mega-course, Silver Creek clearly deserves a 4.5-disc rating.
- Silver Creek brings the disc golf.

Excellent Course In Wisconsin 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 3, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Beautiful course right on Lake Michigan. The course includes a wide variety of holes from wooded hallways to wide open holes down hillsides.

Cons:

If you don't know the course well, it can be difficult to navigate.

This is a pretty difficult course if you play from the mens tees. There are lots of places to lose discs so make sure you have someone spotting.

The course (36 holes) span a large area with lots of hills. It can be pretty intense. Great way to get in shape, but you will definitely feel fatigued by the end of the round.

Other Thoughts:

Great park with picnic areas and jungle gym equipment.

Silver Medal Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 25, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The signage is good and the scorecard made me think I'd be bombing for aces, but the first hole alone is such a righty hole that I nearly bogied. It wasn't until #4 that I found a comfortable lefty shot and made an easy deuce. The mix of right and left and straight is fair, but few courses have as many blind shots to extremely protected greens as this one. The 15th and 16th are particularly great, especially the mounting of the 16th pin and view of a bridge above. The pin for the 22nd is one of the best in the state.

Cons:

There really are no cons to this course other than a lack of really big elevation. It has a mix of long and short, is very technical and makes great use of the beautiful land along lake Michigan. Only the lack of huge elevation keeps it from getting a perfect rating.

Other Thoughts:

Go. It's gorgeous near the lake.

Another Gem in WIsconsin 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- An absolutely beautiful park and course layout. Even if you are not playing disc golf this course is still a lot of fun just to walk through and look at.
- Mulitple Concrete teepads on every hole making the course harder or easier to your liking.
- Nice Catching DGA baskets.
- Nice large Parking lot
- On Site Bathrooms
- A very good mix of short technicle holes and long holes.
- Id call this a course with a decent ammount of trees to play through. Not a crap load and no where near wide open. This course really exemplifies what Wisconsin Disc Golf is all about.
- Almost every hole out here can be birdied and they can also all be bogied. This makes for a fun style of play where you play your game and see just how good you are.
- The course uses the elevation and water pretty perfectly. A lot of risk reward in these shots where playing hard can get you a great shot and also an absolutely horrible one.
- The light house hole is one of the most picturesque holes in Disc Golf and one to not let you guard down on.
- Perfectly placed fairways and pins. There is never really an issue where a bad shot will lead to another tee or fairway. A very good designing the course here.

Cons:

- There is a lot of walking here but what else can you expect from a 27 hole course that is not short.
- The bugs do get pretty bad here during the summer but where dont they get bad in the summer in WI
- I can see navigation being a bit tricky on a hole or two. There are a few longer walks where if you dont know the course then you might not be able to find where to go next.

Other Thoughts:

The ammount of work that has been put into this course in the past couple of years is just amazing. They keep adding more to it, harder pin locations and harder tees. This course is a lot of fun to play and one of the top course in WI

I got sunshi-i-ine... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Aesthetic-- plays through a very very large multi-use park on the shores of Lake Michigan. There are many areas that are certainly NOT dg-exclusive so throw wisely. We started our round at 5:45am so the park was essentially empty save for a few metal detector guys. I can see this park being very busy at times.

Teepads-- Very nice pads. Gnurled in the center for extra grip. Concrete pads in ALL tee positions including "champ" tees make for an extra enjoyable round for anyone.

Teesignage-- Good. IIRC only teesigns at one tee per hole which is a bit distracting but the map provided here is more than adequate for figuring out distances and what teepad, etc.

Routing and nav- a couple tricky spots but overall easy. 14 to 15 is probably the worst routing out here but overall, the map is the shining star here.

Baskets--DGA baskets with orange neck bands. Nicely visible for the most part. Flags could/would be useful on some holes where it's not evident which pin position the basket is in.

Upkeep-- this park is immaculate. Honestly, for a city park, there was very little trash and the grass was freshly mowed. Couldn't ask for a "cleaner" round.

Variety/ Challenge-- there is so much variety here it's rediculous. You play in so many different areas of the park. With open fairways, tight fairways, creek, lake, sand, trees, bomber, technical there is a bit of everything here. With the multiple teepads in play on every hole, it's a create your own adventure at this course. For those who say it's too short, well, it may be but then you could play the four champion tees and add to the length. When I was there, the baskets that had long placements were all in the long placements so that adds distance as well.

Signature hole-- #22 is amazing. The graceful left sweep to a platform green overlooking the lake were amazing in the morning. Your first throw here had better be a good one or you are not going to have a good day.

Man-made-- barriers around holes 20-22 to prevent cross-contamination between holes are much appreciated and a great touch for this course.

Cons:

a couple minor cons here:

Length-- I know, I just said it was a make your own adventure but there are an abundance of short holes. The challenge factor could be higher with longer holes.

Out-of-towner disadvantage-- It would be nice to have a way to tell everyone which position the basket was in. We had a hard time knowing which position it was in (it was consistently inconsistent if it was in the mid-long or long-long position) this was especially difficult on hole 18.

Other Thoughts:

Truly a great way to start our road trip. Couldn't have asked for a better "starter" course for the morning. Truly a gem here.

Top notch DG experience 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Overall Score (4.4)

Tee pads (5/5): Full size, smooth, level, concrete tee pads. Swept clean for the tournament, so no qualms there. Two tee pads for every hole, and even a third, "Champion" tee for a handful of holes.

Baskets (4/5): Standard Mach 3's. Numbered and catch well, but lack color. The lighthouse basket is sick!

Layout/Design (4/5): A lot of everything! We're talking downhill bombs, uphill heaves, doglegs, open, tight... everything you can imagine in a disc golf course. This course utilizes the land it was created on, perfectly. The signature hole is perched on top of a figurine lighthouse that is probably 6+' tall. The pictures on here do not do this hole justice. From pad to basket it is crazy! You have to play it to really feel me.
That being said, tee signs could use an update. More signage could aid navigation (I didn't have any problems, but I was playing in a tournament here for my first time, so I was able to follow everyone else.)

Scenery/Surroundings (4/5): This course is beautiful in the summertime. The winding creek, Lake Michigan, and variety of large trees make for great scenery. Everyone was extremely friendly and the surrounding area is comfortable. Course was well taken care of. The thick wasn't too heavy and errant throws weren't too punishable.

Likeliness to Return (5/5): Even though I live 6 hours away, I'm going to have to return to this course. Its safe to say that if I lived anywhere near it, I'd play it... a lot!

Well worth the 30 mile trip 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 1, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good elevation changes, love the multiple pin locations and the multiple tees. Both RHBH and forehand shots are needed. Some tight holes in the woods and some more open longer holes as well. #2 is the weakest hole, but offers a good shot at an ace. #6 is up a monster hill. 9A and 9B offer nice extra holes. The one that starts at the top of the hill after 6 is a great fun hole offering a chance for some monster distance.

Cons:

#10 is difficult to find, even with the map. Luckily we were following some course regulars. Follow down through the woods to the right after #9 past the playground. 9B tee is difficult to find. It is marked with small paint marks on the asphalt before you reach the playground. A great hole before you play 10.

Other Thoughts:

First hole is about 100 yards due west from the parking lot.

Good Course Through a BEAUTIFUL Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 5, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

A beautiful park located next to Lake Michigan...
Great layout, mixed variety of shots
Baskets in great shape (and apparently they move them around)
Excellent use of terrain, course is kept in AMAZING shape! fairways mowed, schule kept in check...
Nice concrete teepads for BOTH tees on every hole...

Cons:

Despite my DGCR addiction, we missed hole 9b... DOH!
The walk from #9 to 10 (playing course as marked) is long and convoluted...
The course design is SLIGHTLY lacking behind the beauty of this park
Course as marked par is too generous

Other Thoughts:

Simply beautiful course in a GORGEOUS park! The course can be played by any skill level, TOP pros may be bored... until the look at the lake!
Holes 1-5 play through the park, hole 6 is the B4ST4RD up-the-sled-hill hole! Hole 7 has a tricky L>R tee shot...
Hole 9 was probably my favorite on the course, extrememly well manicured L>R hole (well, straight drive with L>R upshot at my skill level) the basket placed precariously next to a sledhill...

After a walk to the 10th tee, the course tightens up through the woods... #11 is a great hole that plays along the lake (Michigan) have fun with the trees.... 12 is a great uphill shot, slightly L>R...
14 stands out to me because of the STUNNING view of the lake behind the back tees... Beautiful downhill midrange hole that you'll want to spend all day at...
17 seems simple but is very tricky, have fun with the ace run...
18 seemed anti-climactic, but I'm nitpicking, all and all, a VERY fun round of DG...

Best course to date! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 20, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Cedar trees are still one of my favorite trees for disc golf. They provide a dense canopy that makes you feel closed in but they also have no lateral branches like Pines and Spruces, they grow more upright. SO they can provide a challenge and also shelter the hole when planted close together. Just a great tree for disc golf. It starts out on the first hole with a tough little gap to shoot between and around some Cedars. Great starting hole especially with the stream trickling by you on the teepad.

2) #3 may be in the open but it has a tough gap through some cedars/arbs. It isn't a full power throw so it is tough to get the right cut on your disc. Great challenging short little hole!

3) Course has some pretty good elevation changes. #9a is an awesome hole throwing off the top of a big sledding hill. Do not skip this hole it will make you feel like a pro throwing for a lot of distance. I wanted to sit here and throw a bunch of discs but I was hitting more courses and I didnt want to throw out my arm before hitting WInter Park. Some of the other holes go up the sled hill, a few others go across the hill. There is even some elevation changes on some of the wooded holes which is an absoulte plus.

4) Creek comes into play or into view many time throughout the course. Although it isn't always in close range of play it is visible and gets you thinking. I also like how the creek gives a sort of aura to this park. It just adds to the fun of the course.

5) Nice big dual concrete teepads with flares. This is almost simply a necessity and not really a pro, but this course would not be as highly ranked if they only had dirt/grass tees.

6) Gravel and mulch was used appropriaely around tees and baskets to prevent erosion and muddy areas. Some areas could still use more mulch like off the end and sides of some of the teepads but because they are large it isnt as much of an issue.

7) Very nice teesigns and directionals to next tees in many spots.

8) Underbrush seems to be pretty well maintained, but there is enough there that an errant throw could get punished.

9) Variety on this course is not comparable by many courses. WInter Park is one that compares and I played them both the same day. This course has water in play, lots of use of elevation change, lots of tight wooded holes and some more open holes with well placed mature trees, it also has a couple big ripper holes and a few holes set out in the prairie!

10) Be sure to walk out to the beach when you are playing holes #11 and 12. It is an awesome view and very scenic. It only adds to the overall feeling of this course. On #14 tee also be sure to take a minute to look out over the lake again from a slightly elevated position. You can almost see Flip City 120 miles away!!!

Cons:

1) #2 is a throway hole. It seems like it is only there to get you from #1 to #3. I would have rather seen the 9a hole come down the hill and end up over on that side of the field. Then where #1 was you could have turned the hole around and played it backwards and then add another hole that finishes where 9a basket is. It would give some better flow and take away the only poor hole on the course.

2) Seems to be a lot of garbage on the first few holes around the parking lot. A garbage basket in the lot might be helpful.

3) Parking lot is not marked and confusingly small. Not sure where they want you to park for good traffic flow through the small lot.

4) Walk from 9a to 9b can be confusing because you cannot see where the tee is on 9b. I walked right past it since th ebasket is tucked so far back into the woods you canot see it. Use the overhead map provided on here and walk across the parking lot from the basket towards the bridge. Cross the bridge and walk to the picnic table and the tee is right there on the asphalt. Basket is tough to see but it is in the woods. I am unsure of the path that you would take from 9 to 10 if you skip 9a and 9b but I would guess it is marked.

Other Thoughts:

This course is simply the most varied course I have played and very well maintained too so it gets my highest vote to date! It is scenic, well designed, very well maintained, nice teepads, signage, and variety. What more can you ask for . . . well the biggest issue is garbage and maybe a few more areas that are wore down to nothing and could use some mulch to keep from being really muddy.

A very scenic course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 5, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Let it fly! Many open holes for long drives. Hole 9A although it isn't marked on the map is like throwing your disc off a cliff. Throw it as hard, and level, as you can and watch it go. Holes near lake Michigan provide excellent views. If your in no rush, stop and take a look at the lake. On a good day, you can see pretty far. The woods provide a challenge at the start of the back 9. The pin may seem farther than it actually is on these holes. Don't overthrow them or you'll have lots of trouble finding your disc.

Cons:

The field is crowded. The first tee makes you cross the field which is full of others. Kids messing around or people trying to throw on hole 9A. You are almost guaranteed to way "FORE" on this course. The tee shots are blind on holes 8 and 9. On hole 9, keep your tee shot low. The pin is right at the edge of the top of a hill. You do not want your disc to go down that hill.

Other Thoughts:

This course is lots of fun. You'll enjoy this course. It is very scenic and very large. The holes do seem to be a little shorter than I expected, but they challenge you with trees, the creek, elevation changes, and thick grasses. Hole 15 allows you to chuck your disc as far as you want. This feels good after being stuck in the woods for 5 holes. Hole 9A is considered a practice hole, but play it anyway. You can try to land in the shed, hit the soccer goal post, or make it past the trees to the hole. The best shot if your disc naturally goes left is to aim for the parking lot. If it goes right, aim for the first tee. Enjoy this course!!

Let's put it like this... The practice tee is this little spot of land at the bottom of a hill and surrounded by a creek. After that you walk towards the first tee and enter a forest path where the trees welcome you and embrace you and the mario party music starts playing and it makes you wonder why they haven't had a mario disc golf game yet.... It's that good. After that you start going through some easy shots and it just literally becomes a walk in the park. This course is pretty sizable and is just a blast. Got lost first time there trying to find hole ten but... I got it down by now lol. Extremely well taken care of course and the signs are very good, pointing out where the next hole is on most of the holes. This course has all four of the basic disc golf food groups (field/water/wood/trick) and just has a huge raw fun factor

Bit confusing at first.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 3, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

1. Variety. Great variation in shot type required off the tee, but recreational-friendly enough that you usually can get up and down for par if you screw up. Multiple pin locations on many holes (#6 has three locations, with the deepest making it a legitimate par 4 at 403' uphill to a plateau green surrounded by guardian pines), 2-3 tees per hole (#2, #13, #17, and #25 have champ tees). Water in play on many holes, mostly in the form of the creek, but Lake Michigan looms on #22 (though admittedly you'd REALLY have to overshoot to wind up in the lake here!) and serves as a picturesque backdrop on several other holes. Hole #10 in the alternate position is a pretty open 525' RHBH anhyzer gently sloping down into a protected green, #13 has a pin precariously placed near the same sharp drop-off you throw down for #14 (old #9a), plenty of ace runs abound, and in the new 27-hole layout this has moved a great deal away from being a "deuce-or-die" course. Hole #22, one of the new additions, will quickly become a famous hole in the area (if not the country), with a premium on the landing zone off the tee before reaching a sharp dogleg down to the aforementioned green sitting on Lake Michigan, with an elevated basket perched atop a lighthouse...just awesome, and a great way to showcase the region's history not only in disc golf, but also in the Great Lakes Maritime industry!
2. Scenery. As mentioned, great views of Lake Michigan and a nice overlook from #14's tee. The creek is impressive after a torrential rain (not so much if your disc happens to find it on one of these days). Lots of wildlife and a good variety of trees and foliage.
3. Manitowalk in the Park. This is by far one of the best-organized and most fun tournaments I have ever played, with a field that fills up every year, great player's packs, and a lot of awesome people involved (including the sponsors). I realize that an event at a course doesn't necessarily contribute to how it plays during a recreational round, but if you just stop out during the days of the tournament and check it out, you'll see how much people love this course.
4. Maintenance. There is a fair amount of trash out here on any given day, but with how popular it is and with how much the locals love this course (and thus don't want to see it scrapped because of litter/vandalism), the upkeep out here is far better than one might expect from a park that gets so much use (including all the non-disc-golf activities at Silver Creek).
5. Location. They probably couldn't have picked a better city park to put this course. Very easy to find if you're traveling up County LS (which leads straight into Cleveland if you're planning on hitting LTC and other area courses), though it will definitely take you a little longer to find, especially on your first time out, if you're coming off of I-43. Just follow the signs for UW-Manitowoc; it's next door to their campus.
5. Dual tees. Your round becomes exponentially more difficult when you transition from short to long tees. On many holes it seems like a completely different hole rather than just a straight extension back from the shorts. There are 4 champion tees out here, too, as mentioned above, if you like some extra challenge (especially spices up the rather bland #2, and #25 is given a total facelift when you step from the short/long tee area over to the champ).
6. Baskets. The Mach III baskets are in good shape.
7. Navigation. Good signage, and with all the new holes that have been added, "next tee" signs and other aids have been put into place to assist in getting around.

Cons:

1. Erosion. This course at just over 10 years old is starting to show signs of its popularity, as well as just natural elements taking their toll. Several fairways on the Front 9 have changed in the past season or two due to large trees or branches coming down, and there are plenty more mature trees that seem to be in their death throes. Inevitable, and hopefully the design will change in strategic ways to keep this a great course while preserving the flora.
2. Vandalism is apparently a staple of this park's diet (not surprising with the high amount of chucker traffic). It's a multi-use park that is popular with a variety of crowds, and on busy days (especially when soccer games and picnics are going on) you may have to skip a few holes like #2, #14, and #15.

Other Thoughts:

One of my favorites. Definitely check out Manitowalk in the Park during July; if not to play, at least to watch and witness the supreme organization and positive feedback pretty much everyone will give. I'd love to see a few additional permanent holes added out here, as there is still plenty of land and even another 6 or 9 doesn't seem completely out of the question. However, it seems that erosion control will be a driving factor in any immediate redesign, so tweaking existing holes may take priority over any rumored course expansion.
