This is a weird course. Hole 1 and 10-18 are completely different than the rest of the course. Holes 2-7 have a very 'park feeling to them with green grass and mild elevation changes and short holes, like a random 9 hole course from anywhere in the country would look like. Holes 8 and 9 get slightly more rugged and foreshadow what the back 9 will be like. I talked to one of the locals and he said that most people start on hole 2 and play through hole 8/9 and then repeat a few times. Many families and teenagers/20 somethings were doing exactly that. The back 9 is where most of the elevation starts first by throwing across the road getting to the park which is a little valley to the basket on the otherside and then holes 11 and 12 get progressively more angry until you hit the short downhill putter shot that is the 13th. From here is where the disc eating brush and wide open long bomber holes really take over. The first 9 holes we waited on a few tee pads for large groups and the back 9 was empty and we had the course to ourselves. The elevation really helps this course out because it really lacks obstacles, trees or OB or anything punishing bad throws or making the holes interesting.

Teepads:

I'm not sure what the heck is wrong with Pocatello but so many courses in the area have really bad tee pads and this place is no exception. Large bump in the middle and the edges slanting off pretty hard, uphill pads, downhill pads, uneven pads, etc. These rubber pads look like and are built exactly the same the pads are at the Sunrise Club course down the street. I assume the same people put these pads in as well. Either they are really pad at pouring and leveling concrete OR they are doing this on purpose to add challenge? IDK but if you're going to require me to throw 600 feet off a hill you better build me some level tee pads!

Rough Terrain:

Not necessarily a con in an of itself but the terrain here is quite nasty to the ankles. You're constantly walking over uneven ground either steep uphill or downhill or the side of a hill. Many holes and sticks and whatever out here trying to get you injured. Also this course is overgrown and the disc losing potential is fairly high.

Hole 1:

What a weird hole. It starts out lower than the parking lot which sits on top of a big hill. So you're supposed to drive your car up to the top of the parking lot then walk down a 1/4 mile just to throw up a damn cliff and then try and walk, more like scramble to your tee shot on the side of a cliff. This hole is open and the only obstacle is throwing high enough up the hill. I can see why the locals skip this and start hole 2. It's really badly done, wish hole 2 was the first hole and this didn't exist.

This place doesn't know what it wants to be. Are we a family friendly, pitch and putt? Are we a rugged long armed hardcore DGer course? Pocatello has really nice courses and if someone asked me which one was the worst I would say this course. It's still a decent course but when compared to Bengal Ridge or Sunrise Club this falls short. I highly recommend playing those courses in town first before this one or if you're short on time. Infinite Discs has a shop inside an appliance store in downtown Pocatello that is stocked with a nice selection of discs and accessories you may want to check out too. Google it!

+ Innova Discatchers - they are old but they can still catch

+ Tons of elevation change in a small amount of space. The ups and downs of the course aren't mountain like and dont seem too daunting but they will come up and wear you out. Throwing the downs are fun but the ups just kill.

+ Great teesigns. They show you were the two placements are for each basket with landmarks. No pin marker but for the most part it wasn't needed.

+ After hole 9 the course looped back to hole 1, which is always a plus.

- Discatchers were assembled in a way that the chains get caught on the bolt connecting the basket pieces and it leads to multiple holes having the chains getting stuck.

- Rubber teepads. Bad idea most of the time, even worse idea when there is just dust and dirt everywhere. The pads were slick from the dust. The tees weren't uniform in size either and there seemed to be no rhyme or reason why some were bigger or smaller than others. There were some very long shots with short teepads and then some shorties with double long teepads. It made no sense.

- Hole 18 makes no sense in where it ends. After playing the front nine I would have expected the 18th to nicely finish next to hole 1. But it ends in the middle of the back nine and makes you climb up and over the mountain that the course is on.

This course is really two separate 9's from a style point of view. The front nine is mostly park style with very little skill needed to score well where as the back nine is a much harder beast with long bombs and tricky pin placements. There were holes here that I really liked but for the most part it was just blah. I'm glad that I had my wife with me to help spot on a few holes.

I wouldn't recommend traveling out of your way to play here. It was just another course with some fun but mostly boring holes. I'd come here to work on my cardio but not so much to practice my disc golf.

Lots of variety!! Elevation changes, good use of terrain and natural barriers, and a good mix of distance and technical shots. Some unique shots and isolated baskets, such as 9, and 10. I played in the middle of the day and there were not many people besides disc golfers. People are friendly and helpful if you are trying to figure out the course for the first time. This course is new and my rating will go up when the tee pads and signs are installed. I posted this review to help with navigation during construction. See Below.

It would be unfair to list the cons until the course is completed. If you don't like long sagebrush holes then play the front nine, if you don't like parks then play the back, but if you like disc golf then play all 18.

If you are familiar with the other courses in Pocatello, this course is like a mix of Ross and Bengal. Whatever you like or dislike about those courses you will get here. This course is going to complement the other courses in Pocatello. It is well designed and has challenges for all skill types. Bring water and wear good shoes. There are a few steep parts to go up and down and from hole 8-18 you are hiking.

The following is to help navigate until the holes are numbered and the signs are installed:

Holes 1-7 are in the grass on the North side of the park. Holes 8-10 are on the south side, and 11-18 are in the brush to the east.

The tee box for hole #1 is at the south-west corner of the pavilion, the basket is directly west on the edge of the grass and ledge. Holes 2-7 wrap around the park and navigate easily. Hole eight starts at the south-east corner of the pavilion and you throw directly south to the end of the grassy patch. The basket for hole 9 is the one you pass on the way into the park that sits on the 15 ft ledge by the road. Hole 10 cuts back across the entrance road, 11 is blind over the hill parallel with the road. Then go up towards parking lot and you'll find the tee box for 12, the basket is a LONG way north so let it rip. The holes are connected from there on to 18.
