Not quite a "country club", but definatly a fun round of golf 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 5, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Wide variety of shots, lefts, rights and straight ahead shots
- Elevation change around course adds to the golf experence without being too extreme
- Holes vary in length from aceable with your putter, to what should be considered a par 4
- Creative pin placement provides challenge and beauty
- Water comes into play on 3 holes
- Constintly in a state of evolution sence 1986
- Charlie the owner and his wife are wonderful hosts
- Whole course is playable with a golf cart, which Charlie has!
- Well mowed and taken care of private course
- 1 basket out here was one of the first baskets in Nor-Cal
- Right around the corner from Pioneer Park makeing both rounds possible in one afternoon
- Benches all around the course

Cons:

- 10 baskets used for 18 holes isn't realy a problem as it is a private course and probably never crowded
- A couple holes play a little close to the house and a badly thrown disc could end up breaking a window
- Dirt tees on most holes, though with the evolutions that this course has undertaken in the last 25 years it would probably be nothing but concrete if he had put in concrete teepads on every hole
- No signs, but you shouldn't be playing here without Charlie's permision
- Mixed baskets
- Poison oak around in some areas

Other Thoughts:

The Somerset Country Club is the name that Charlie has chosen to give his private course up in the hills of southern El Dorado County, it is not actualy a country club though Charlie does have a golf cart he can drive all around the course. It is a beautiful private course that plays through the owners back yard so it is necessary to call first and get permission to play out here before you make the drive. It took me a few trys when I've been in the area to get a chance to come out here and play, but it is worth it. The owner Charlie is a member of the Disc Golf Hall of Fame and he has put in courses all around Nor-Cal. He is a great source of knowledge regarding old school disc golf, and a fun guy to golf with.

The course has lots of fun basket placements including one on top of a rock, and one that sits right next to 2 ponds. The one that is next to the ponds is played for 3 holes so you have a few chances of ending up in the drink during your round. There is great variety around this course, uphills, downhills, lefts, rights, and just about any other type of shot that you can name. Placement is very important around this course, its not just about big power.
