Very pleasant course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good number of open holes around 275-375 feet in length with a few trees in the way on the front nine, then shorter holes with more trees on the back nine, and water comes into play on four holes.

Very nice concrete tee pads with good signs showing distance and simple maps. Very easy to navigate the course and find your way.

It's pretty hard to lose a disc on this course, basically only if you throw in the pond on #s 2 or 3 or get stuck in a tree.

The park is generally in great shape, baskets, tee pads are all taken care of, other than one or two cases of spray paint graffiti lately. Very little trash around, and the grass is usually mowed quite well too.

Cons:

Not a whole lot of variety or difficulty in most of the holes. Not much elevation change other than a couple holes throwing up, down, or across a slight valley.

A few of the holes cut through the park which can lead to a decent number of people being in your way when the weather is nice.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great course for people learning to play and remains fun for those that are more experienced. Decent variety of looks but is not especially challenging for those looking for a professional course. On any given day, any hole is able to be birdied by a decent to good player. All the park construction stuff mentioned in previous posts has been completed.

Pros:

Good course that gets more fun with every hole you pass. The front nine is established and therefore has concrete tees and tee signs. The front also has different baskets then the back but both are good. The elevation is used very well here in all aspects. You have to throw uphill and downhill and even some of the greens have life. The course is very well mowed and manicured. The navigation is pretty easy even though the back doesn't have pads or signs yet. The course is very lefty/righty friendly and has some very interesting holes like 12 and 13. I dont think that the challenge is there for the pro/adv level player but it is still a fun course. There aren't alot of trees on the front making it very beinner freindly along with there not being many places to lose plastic.

Cons:

The back 9 can get crowded with people and kids due to the nearby playground and pavillion. On many holes you have to throw across the park roads and sidewalks which makes for dangerous shots for those not paying attention.

Other Thoughts:

I dont know if its worth the drive just to play this course but if your in Pawhuska and your going to Tulsa, its worth the stop. The front 9 reminds me of Will Rogers in OKC because you throw back and forth across the huge ditch. There were alot of cut limbs and things on the back due to the city preparing the course, but according to the local we played with they are in the process of clearing lines and just haven't cleaned it up yet. Look for orange spray paint and worn dirt for the pads on the back. They werent to hard to find. And yes I know I spelled the town wrong in the review..kind of an inside joke.
